Rein says Halo 3's E3 showing hurt Bungie

Epic Games' very vocal and opinionated Mark Rein doesn't think Bungie should have shown Halo 3's E3 campaign trailer and believes it hurt them more than it helped. In a chat with CVG, Rein said that Halo 3 didn't win any best of E3 awards, because Microsoft didn't give the media any hands on time with the game stating that;

"I'm sure if they'd actually had a big Halo 3 presence, if Microsoft had set up eight machines or 12 or 16 machines so you could sit and play it, it would have won all kinds of awards. But they don't need to because, like me, everyone's already placed their order... So I think that worked against them at E3."

Hmm, interesting logic we guess. But Mark's comments further confuse us when he later tells CVG that it was a "smart move" to highlight other Xbox 360 titles and limit the amount of Halo 3 exposure. Hmm, didn't Mark just say he thought it was a bad move to not show a bunch of Halo 3? Well, now we're just confused Mr. Rein.

In the end, we like to think that the Halo 3 E3 trailer was good times and helped fans get a feel for what the campaign has to offer. But at least we can both agree that we don't have to be sold on Halo 3 and are buying it no matter what.

Hey how about Mark Rein kisses my dick. Before talking about any other game, he should think about the bullshit they are pulling by releasing the finished Gears of War on PC and screwing 360 owners.

I think what he meant was they would of been better not even mentioning Halo 3 at E3 rather than just showing a video. As he says Halo 3 really doesn't need any sales pitch as I believe it's pre-release sales already make it one of the biggest selling games of all time (possibly).

There isn't enough consoles out there for it to sell more than Halo 2 did right now. It may eclipse it eventually, but that could take years.

At this point I don't think much of anything is going to hurt Halo. It has huge brand recognition and that means a lot.

First off, this game is going to move consoles like you wouldn't believe, so don't take the amount of 360s out there now as if it is the final number.

Second, people don't need to own the system in order to buy a game, many kids may get it as a present now and then get the system for christmas or when there is a big price cut.

Third, this game already has like twice as many pre-orders as Halo 2 SOLD on the first day, and with some of these copies being $130, I'm pretty sure Halo 3 will easily outsell Halo 2 not only in number of copies but amount of money made, easily making it the number one entertainment release day.

man someone shut him up !! Bungie showed the campaign footage to show that the game visuals are way better than anything halo we have seen until now, including the Beta. sure they dint get any awards as there was no live demo or anything but bungie got its point across and epic can go sleep with the PS3 for all i care cos this year we have bungie moving the consoles for us !

from my preference i prefer halo3's visuals over say UT3's, unreal seems to be getting too shiny for me, i'll stick with realistic instead. and i dont see what bungie can do that would hurt them at this point in time ?

Everyone knows Gears was too short. Well before any PC announcement was made, that was one of the things that came up in reviews a lot when Gears was released. You don't get to tell me weather or not what I purchased was worth it.

I never said Epic owes anybody anything, but this is an decision. Releasing another version with more levels, including a battle with a creature that was in the commercial for the 360 version, is lame. I'm not saying the new stuff should be free for 360 users, but it should at least be AVAILABLE.

If I were him I wouldn't even be talking. GoW is an unfinished, glitchy ass hell game that back stabbed the 360 community. He is just spewing shit from his mouth.(I ain't going to add UT3 because they have been doing good.)

Let bungie do there thing. If they didn't show halo 3 at E3 many people would have been pissed.

How dare anyone call Epic a back stabbing company or say that Gears was a half-assed game? If people would play the game the way it was meant to be played, no one would be complaining about glitches, because most of the problems, just like many issues with Xbox 360 reliability, are user related.

Epic is 10x the company Bungie ever will be. Get over it.

Maybe Epic should stop worrying about Bungie and start worrying about the customers who went out and got a 360 to play Gears,only to find out the finished game will be on the PC they already own (and probably $50 too).

Considering how well Bungie has done with the Xbox brand, and how well Epic has done, I don't think Epic has ANY room to talk...Epic is losing more and more customers everyday because of that "PC getting the complete package of GOW". I, along with around 80 people in my university, will NOT be buying anything more from Epic. Let Epic go kiss ass in the PC/PS3 arena's, and see how much they come begging back to 360 owners with exclusive this/exclusive that. That's all anybody has to do, just don't buy their games. I mean come on, if GOW didn't look as good as it does, nobody would still be playing that game! The programming and execution were just ridiculous. That's why even to this day, Epic releases "patches" a.k.a finishing an unfinished game! Me + around 80 friends = $5,120 that Epic will not be getting from us, and that is just at the Chicago University, let alone the rest of our schools throughout the country and Ireland.....Epic < Bungie!

Gears of Lag was released unfinished, specially the multiplayer part.

Now that they finished the REAL UE3 it will be released on the PC.

Now Rein got to fuck his own mom in the ass before talking anything about a game that sold and will continue to sell a fucking LOT more than any of the cookie cutter crap that he and his people ever did on any console.

Halo and Halo 2 are ABSURDELY better games than Gears of Lag. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Gears was cool during the off season. Now there are enough REAL games out there to make Mr. Rein's unfinished 360 game be one more in the stack.

BTW, Unreal is the gayest thing EVER. Only looses on gayness to WoW and the gaming show on NBC today.

look all i said was that i find the Unreal3 based games too shiny ! Halo 3 has a more realistic "style" of graphics in my opinion.

and yes Epic will come back begging when they cant sell enough copies of UT3 as there aint enough PS3's out there and Gears on PC will hardly sell considering everyone just downloads PC games but hardly anyone does that on a console ! they will come back begging.

and also ask yourself, in terms of re-playability which is superior, Halo franchise or Gears of war ? i feel its halo and i am sure many others think that too.

Because In mine Halo dont even deserve mentioning next to gears.

Gears Of Lag? Get a real connection, or play with a host that has a real connection. No1 lags on my servers unless they are outside the USA, and even then they will probably run faster than normal.

Opinions aside heres a fact.

GOW has surpassed Halo 2 as the most played Live game ever. Fact.

Heres an opinion.

GOW gamplay, along with UT3 takes a serious amount of skill to be good at, and any1 that thinks otherwise is a Gaylo Master Chief ball fluffing scrub like T Ghost.

Ofcoarse, I like 2 think my opinions are shared by the majority.

Wrong. Gears of War is currently the most played game on Xbox Live, it has not become the all-time most played game on Xbox Live and it probably has a good way to go before it does.

Halo 2 was played non-stop by tons of people for 2 years and its still being played.
