Bungie confirms 4-player Live co-op in Halo 3 [update]

According to Netherlands gaming site Xboxworld, Bungie has confirmed that Halo 3 will feature 4-player online co-op, despite theories to the contrary. The news comes from a press conference in Amsterdam, where Frank O'Connor and Brian Jarrard are demoing the game for the press. While we normally wouldn't take translated articles as gospel, Joystiq has learned directly from Bungie that the feature is definitely in the game. Furthermore, an update is expected to hit Bungie.net later today. Stay tuned for the official revelation (in English no less) whenever it drops.

Sgt. Johnson is nearly indestructible so I can't see playing as him being much of a challenge. As the previous poster said if you have four Master Chiefs running around are they going to turn up the difficulty and add more enemies?

Not to play conspiracy theory too hard here, but anyone stop to think they had it working all along? I think it may have just a rumor drummed up to have fanboys biting their nails, holding their breath in anticipation for this to be fixed. Honestly, imagine H3 being released in this day and age WITHOUT 4 player co-op? People would revolt! I'm a huge Halo fan and personally I wasn't worried in the least. When I heard this two weeks ago (by the way...isn't that a short amount of time to fix something that they said wouldn't be ready for launch?), I had a strong suspicion they'd have it fixed by September. Anyone else?

Sounds like fun, but I hope those that do this co-op thing don't get the same Achievements that the single player will. If that's true, then the Achievement-getting might be lopsided and a little unfair!

Halo was never meant to be a co-op IP like Gears is, and I wonder what this will change.
