Crysis is possible on 360 says Crytek

And so, the twisted web of Crysis on consoles is woven ever tighter. Some of you might recall a Crytek senior game designer claiming that the PS3 and Xbox can't handle Crysis. Afterward, a lead artist claimed it was definitely possible to port the game to consoles, though he didn't know of any plans to do so. After that, we reported about a specially designed version of Crysis for Xbox 360 that wouldn't really be a port at all. It should come as no shock that EA later denied that such a project existed, claiming that it was a "miscommunication."
So, now that we're up to date, here's the latest: according to CVG, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has now gone on record saying that "Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3." Yerli goes on to say that bringing Crysis to consoles would require optimization and, furthermore, this has always been the stance of Crytek. O RLY? Yerli concludes that there are no current plans to bring the game to consoles and that Crytek's priority is finishing the PC game. Still, hope springs eternal, right?

That would be amazing. This is the only upcoming PC game I've been keeping up with lately just because it looks so awesome. And my PC is crap. 360, FTW? PLEAZ?!

YA RLY!

Looks nice...I'd definetly give it a try if it came to the 360...

*sniff* Does that smell like the pen Bill Gates uses to sign those over-sized checks?

Just like with FarCry its POSSIBLE to bring a game similar to Crysis using the engine to consoles. It won't look nearly as good as top of the line PC gaming, but it'll still look fantastic enough for most people. I'd put my money that they make a new side game rather than just port Crysis over as is. They had great success making those side games with the console versions of FarCry (even making them better than the original PC game).

i doubt they can maintain realistic deforestation via Mini-gun on a PS3-360 version of Crysis.

This is the typical attitude of a lot of PC game makers. Instead of making the most of current mainstream set ups they make games that require graphics cards that have either only just come out or in some cases are still waiting to come out.

Define 'won't look nearly as good', that's what i'd say last gen, but now as hardware gets better the increase in graphical detail decreases. See: Law of Diminishing Returns. I wouldn't describe a visually great 360 game (GoW) as not looking nearly as good as Crysis.
The physics, that's where the problems might be and is all I care about, PC elitists can keep their tiny extra graphical detail that effcts the game in no way.

Could you have chosen a more boring screenshot? :)

PS3 and Xbox360 do not have the capability of supporting DirectX 10. So think of halflife 2 dx8 vs dx9. Or just go look at some DX10 info. Its hard to say what it will look like without dx10, its all a matter of how much effort is put into the game.

"PC elitists can keep their tiny extra graphical detail that effcts the game in no way."
Tiny? Hardly, have you actually seen Crysis on a high end rig? Clearly not. No way either PS3 or 360 can achieve that quality. I will certainly be playing this on my uber Quad Core, Vista 64 with high end DX10 card. I love the 360 and play 99% of my games on it, but I am stoked for Crysis and my PC can run it the way Crytek intended. So I don't care if there is a 360 or PS3 version. In fact I don't care about the PS3 period. LOL.

Was anyone else reminded of Animal Farm when it said "this has always been the stance of Crytek"?
Ian @ Aug 1st 2007 11:05AM
Digitalspirit:
The thing is, by the time that type of hardware is mainstream accessible/affordable, there will be a new round of consoles that CAN do that. The video card required to play Crysis is the same price or more than the ENTIRE CONSOLE system costs.
Digitalspirit @ Aug 1st 2007 11:20AM
Ian,
I understand your point. Mine is simply that I ALREADY have the hardware capable of running Crysis (and yes my graphics card is about £300 on it's own). Don't get me wrong, I didn't buy an uber powerful PC just to play games, but it DOES have the capability, so I will be using it! Do you blame me? ;)

Well it makes sense for Crytek to finish their game on one system to ensure the quality is met, before utilizing resources to make 360 & PS3 variants.
As far as i am aware Crysis can run on a directX 9.1c run path as well as directX 10, the 360 is basically directX 9.5.
There where screenshot comparisons and some stories out about the directX 9 & 10 in Crysis some time ago, i don't have links though. It could have been false info but it could be very likely possible.
For now im not too much worried about seeing Crysis hit consoles, lots of other games on their way to the 360 this fall.
