BioWare details Mass Effect villain

In the most recent Mass Effect blog update on IGN, BioWare takes a little time to describe the creation of the game's main villain, Saren. It seems the masses would like to know who Saren is and why he's so deliciously evil. First of all, those truly curious should probably check out the official novel, Mass Effect: Revelation. As for the rest of you, read on. It turns out that Saren is a Spectre -- an elite military unit that can basically do whatever the hell he wants to quell galactic threats -- just like the main character, Commander Shepard. He even spent time with Shepard's mentor, Captain Anderson. As the game wears on, you learn more about Saren and what his motivations are and, as is the case with any good villain, you may actually be able to empathize with him. BioWare assures us, however, that you'll still want to kill him. The blog goes on to detail the creation of Saren's look, which actually began with the creation of the Turian race itself in Mass Effect. It's a good read and definitely worth checking out for Mass Effect fans.

"He even spent time with Shepard's mentor, Captain Anderson."
Shepard = Luke. His mentor = Obi Wan of course and this villain spent time with him (Darth Vader)....
Still I can't wait for Mass Effect damn if only it could come out now...

I suggest everyone to read the book. Pretty much explains everything.

Its funny imo how you say its a good read for fans of Mass Effect when the game isn't even out yet.

at #2 "Luke = Shepard..." um, no. Totally different dynamic. Not everything has to be Star Wars derived.
The book introduces Saren very well - if anything, he's more like The Operative from the Serenity (FireFly) film - total badass who thumbs his nose at anyone who isn't as "just" as he is, with freedom to dole out as much punishment as he sees fit. I know books are for nerds, but it's a pretty sweet read. NUMEROUS shotgun beheadings!

...oh btw (geek alert), that image is not Saren. It's a Turian (same species) but not the main baddie...(end geek)

i don't kno where else to post this bust i was just thinking about how Peter Moore is leaving Microsoft to go to EA. Do you think that that will be an advantage to the 360 as far as EA games goes such as getting more exclusives etc? I don't know how big of a role he will be playing at EA but I don't think that it could hurt Microsofts friendship with EA at all.
/end venting

IntRvenous...you are correct in saying that is NOT Saren pictured, but instead is a member of the same species of alien, Turian.
The book details ALL of the stuff covered in the blog post, and to me none of it was new, save for the pictures which went up on the net a day before the posting. lol
I love this game...looking forward to it almost as much as H3...

My initial thought after reading this piece (I've not read anything else so this is almost assuredly an incorrect guess) is that it would be cool if Saren *was* the main character (meaning you the player), albeit obviously one that has gone down the evil path and has somehow messed with space/time and thus can exist while you exist in your time/point of reference.
Regardless, BioWare is almost as good as Blizzard and I'm sure it will be great.

Yea, it would be cool if Saren was the main character, but I would still rather play as a human than some alien...albeit...if I got the choice to be a Turian in the game, I would SO do it.

Oh, that's what that smell is. I was wondering.
