Video: Halo 3 Legendary Edition hands-on

So, we've seen plenty of photographs of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition in the wild. Much like Sasquatch though, video evidence has been hard to find. It is with great pride then, that we unveil the first video footage of the Legendary Edition. While skeptics may doubt its existence, we believe this video -- shot at the Amsterdam press meeting by Game1 -- to be undeniable proof that the fabled product is, in fact, real. Furthermore, behind the display glass, you can also glimpse other Halo related merchandise, including a Master Chief figurine, a Warthog toy, and more. I believe this is real too, I doubt these guys would make a master chief helmet, and set up a fake event just to fool the internet this far after April 1st.

lol I think somebody missed the joke, its real alright but he was just saying that there aren't any videos of the legendary edition and this is video proof. Um yea pretty crap vid really, just surprised me how big the thing is more than anything

Wow...thats damn nice...still not enough to make me justify spending $150 CAD on a legendary edition.

I don't think the $150 is justified either, but I'm still getting it. Atleast get the collector's edition Dj, I think that's definitely worth it (cool aluminum box, artbook, bonus dvd, etc.)

I still dont get what the point is.
I mean, maybe for some "Comic Book Guy" loser with too much money burning a hole in his pocket this looks like a neat thing but unless I can put it on my head as a bike helmet or get some other use out of it besides a $90 dust-collecting paper-weight I'd rather drop my expendable income on something I can use.
But I'm sure in 10 years these stupid things will be going for $100's on eBay to all of the "Comic Book Guy" wannabees feeling the nostaligic urge to collect their already gone pasts.
I guess you could put your weed in it. Yeah, thats worth $90.

i still think $130 is too much simply because the "bonus materials" are likely to be viewed once and then stuck in the back of a closet.
yeah, the helmets cool, but you need to think about the fact that it's not only $60 more than the LE, but there's tax on that too.
would you actually pay $65 retail for a plastic helmet case? Japan used to only get these sorts of things... but they were usually more functional(sound track, T-shirts, etc.) and didn't cost a shit load more.
Even the GTA4 super bonus extra stuff is at least functional: "soundtrack CD, official art book, plus a Rockstar-branded duffel bag and keychain, all shipped in a metal safety deposit box." and thats only $30 extra.

The Legendary helmet is a geek, fanboy trophy of the generation. It represents not just the strength and quality of the 360 games, but also the strength of the industry since 2005.
Could I be seeing into this too much? Sure..but can you imagine this sort of offering ten years ago, at this price, and as widely offered as this will be? Halo and the Xbox 360 really has steamrolled the video gaming industry into a much more adult, mature and respectable market in the US and for that, Master Chief should stand proud.
The helmet will have more and more clout later on as the years go on, when we look back to 2007 and know that was really the year that Xbox truly PWNED the competition, too.
It'll sit on my shelf to show people in a subconscious way that my passion is gaming and for the IP's that really demand the cream of the crop to stand up, I'm right there. I've read the novels, played the past games (but didn't care for them much), and I acknowledge that Halo, as an entity in the market, is as big as Pac-Man was back in the day.
It might cost more, but money comes and goes for all of us (and we're all in debt with college loans as it is, big deal), and I like the idea of setting something respectful, tasteful and mature on my shelf that says I'm a gamer without over-pronouncing it.
Oh..and I have to add: I shed no tears in shelling out $$$ for Legendary: I traded in a ton of old PS2 games for it at Gamestop! :)

Nice point Magic Whisky...I still can't justify spending that much...AS much as I would LOOOVE to get it.
Who knows, maybe I run into some cash down the line and end up buying it...i still have 1 month and 24 days before the game releases...

Oh, that's what a plasctic helmet non-toy is. Respectful, mature and tasteful. Thats the same excuse my mother uses for all those crystal unicorns and miniatures she collects.
I am willing to buy the "this helmet represents a point of greatness in video game history" view however. But that statement is largely relative. To someone, somewhere, a Mac Tonight poster exemplifies fast food historical greatness.
All that being said I am still counting the days until play time :)

if i could wear the helmet by pre ordering then i would buy it but since its just for collecting crap and memories ill pass. do i get extra content? in the game besides the making of the game that just might go on g4tv if they stop playing cops for one f'in second.

I think I'm going with Limited Edition.
The helmet's not nearly as impressive as I thought and it looks super-cheap. I also won't have to plunk down $20 on my reserve, just the normal $5.

Consider that I really enjoyed the Beta, I have A Live Gold account, and Halo 3 will be the defacto go-to game for a long time for me and most of my friends. Halo 3 Legendary doesn't just mean a 'premium' Halo 3 SKU, it reflects the state of 360 as a whole.
It reminds me of the DS release of CastleVania: Portrait of Ruin where the game didn't just simply mean another CastleVania DS game, it also celebrated, rather loudly, the 20th anniversary of the CastleVania franchise. I reserved that copy in advance due to that, because I enjoy the CastleVania line and I see myself as a big, big fan.
I'm a big, big fan of first-person shooters, the Xbox 360, and I enjoyed the Halo 3 Beta a great deal. So yeah, the Legendary helmet IS a trophy to me.
Considering that the average age of gamers is 28-32 now, this trophy isn't something most kids will have (for expense reasons or otherwise), I don't see this 'big piece of plastic' as a toy at all. It's a geek gaming trophy that someday might even go on my office desk..:)...

I can understand if it's a HUGE financial issue for you but...
If you're a fan of HALO...
Then there is absolutely NO excuse...
Go BIG or go HOME !!
The Legendary edition is the only way to go...
Although it's more expensive, don't forget you get a 2nd "making of" disc not included in any other version, a BONUS disc of all the previous Halo cutscenes remastered in Hi-Def AND the aswesome Spartan helmet that you can ask your little brother to wear and then live your spartan dreams through him with...
You think the helmet's dumb? then that's cool... But I love it personally!
Just remember... This is the 1st and LAST time Halo 3 will be released. It's a piece of Gaming history which we consider to be a part of us... So technically it's a part of OUR history. What we enjoy is what makes us who we are.
You won't get a chance to experience this event in this manner again. Enjoy it to the fullest before it passes...

Actually it seems kind of gay. Man I love Halo but wasting money on a plastic helmet just doesn't seem logical. I think if it came with a Master Chief figure or a Warthog that would be better. The helmet just seems stupid. I think they could of come up with something better to put in there for 130 bux. This may appeal to the 12 yo gamer but for the older crowd it is just a waste.

The legendary ed. also comes with an extended beastiarium with more interactive content than the LE. only it's not in a book like the LE its on one of the discs with more content to boot (more pics, bios, and such.. And to generalize Legendary buyers as kids is kind of childish on its own. I'm 26. played games forever. and I love the fiction behind halo and the inner workings of bungie enough to warrant a purchase of all the goodies.. plus how many "kids" do you know that have the money for all the halo merch. only people I know purchasing the Legendary Ed. Are collectors or devout fans of the series, Of witch I am both. I Haven't missed a single special edition 360 game., and I'm not going to start now. well that's all. and to my legendary ed. comrades out there enjoy the bountiful goodies bungie has bestowed upon us. Hit me up on live with a halo 3 message or any game for that matter.. peace
