Call of Duty 4 beta to be exclusive to the US

In a right jab to the collective kidneys of Europe and Canada, Infinity Ward and Activision have confirmed that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare online mulitplayer beta will only be available to US residents. This morning, CVG chatted with publisher Activision when they confirmed the news, but wouldn't elaborate to why the beta was restricted to US Xbox Live members. Though, CVG does mention that they do expect Activision to make an official announcement about the CoD 4 beta sometime today.If this is true, which we expect it to be, then this will make a bunch of fanboys go mad with rage, because they're being deprived of their CoD 4 beta fun. We're offering this posts' comments to our fellow European and Canadian readers, so they can vent and let out their frustration about this very sad news. We know guys, this really sucks hardcore.

This game should be ok for a thrill, that is about it. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape you guys, you will be too busy playing Halo 3 soon enough anyway.

I hate to say this but Europe gets the shaft a little too much for all things 360. I used to find their rants annoying but I've grown to understand why they get so upset.
For as much as Europe supports the system you think Microsoft would make them a little higher of a priority.

I as a UK resident am not in the least suprised. Well actually I am, this is a bloody Beta, not free stuff so there is no reason other than they can't be bothered or don't want to.
I was apprehensive of the franchise being taken in this new direction, and have never liked CoD MP, so I am not too upset.
I will still buy the game, as I don't want to miss-out on the fun, but would like to not give the company any more of my money.

Canada rarely gets axed (well, it seems on Xbox stuff it's more frequent) but I really didn't see that coming. Ah well, not like it's gonna keep me from buying the game, anyway.

This is complete bullshit. There's no reason whatsoever as to why it should be US only. Shadowrun, Halo 3, they weren't US exclusives.

Shadowrun was US exclusive. Well exclusive to the point where you had to download the Beta with a US Live account...but you could play it with any account.

Being from the UK and a massive COD fan this news does indeed suck majorly. I was really looking forward to this beta, but I guess (or I hope) they have their reasons for excluding us :(
@4 I think it would be foolish to boycott the game as the only person who will feel the hurt will be yourself.

Well it might be that they want to limit it to one country so they can narrow down the variables when it comes to the network issues. If the beta is more focused on learning how well the game runs online, then limiting it to one market might help them recognize issues.

No point buying it used. Play.com, HMV, or even amazon.co.uk, always sell the game cheaper than buying it used when it first comes out.
Blockbuster and Game(Now owners of all Gamestations) are really expensive to buy used.

Yes they have the right to do what they want and yes it's just the beta, but everyone knows news of this sort is built to gather outcries. I have fond memories of the BF2 Modern Combat demo back on the original xbox and if I hadn't been allowed to play that because I'm in Canada, I would have been pissed too. Win some, lose some.

Never liked 2, never liked 3, 4 got my attention and i was planning on giving it a chance in the beta. Now that they've decided to take a big steamy dump on Europe i simply wont bother. Not gunna affect them in the slightest but it'll make me feel better.

Alright, people, on the COD4 forums, the people who work for IW have commented on these rumors:
"As for who is eligible for the Beta, there was some confusion caused this week stating that the Beta would be US-exclusive, however that statement was premature, because we have not finalized final details on who would be involved in the beta at this point.
In order to get started, and kick off the beta we will begin in the United States, but are looking to go International and currently sorting out those details."
There you have it. I hope that Dustin sees this so he can update it, although it is clear the damage has already been done.

i think that Microsoft should allow other countries get in on the fun! WHY in the US xbox is doing "OK" but else where its terrible, maybe M$ can standup an inch more and have the areas where they are doing BAD in have THE MOST FUN ACTIVITIES so then maybe xbox 360 can do better in that area such as anywhere BUT USA at least for a change....... where i sign up at????

I'm starting to get pissed at xbox, as europe is xbox stronghold. playstation make an effort to support loyal consumers, why can't xbox do the same. why do i pay 40+ quid a yr and not get the beta, when ps get stuff for free. come on xbox help uk and europe users out.
