HMV offering MGS 4 pre-orders for the 360 version [update 1]

The latest round of "Metal Gear Solid 4 is totally headed to the 360" rumors have begun, with UK retailer HMV taking online pre-orders for MGS 4 on the Xbox 360. That's right, HMV is offering a preorder on the Xbox 360 version of MGS 4 without any official confirmation or announcement from Konami about the franchise heading to Xbox-land. So, they either know something we don't or they're just a tad confused. Though, it's interesting to note that they have the release date set at September 26th for the 360 version, which is five months after the PS3 version drops (according to their release dates). So, in theory, that would make sense according to the OXM confirmation rumor we heard a few weeks back. More rumors, more information, more confusion and no concrete answers. This MGS 4 coming to the 360 rumor mill is quite the soap opera, but a good soap opera at that.

Well if this is true I may play the game but either way I could care less. I have Halo 3 4-player online co-op, and several other sweet ass games to tide me over.

Wouldn't surprise me that they just wanted some cash so put that pre-order up there without any sort of info, and just speculation they heard on the good ol internet.

kojima just develops the game, and at this point and time i dont think the konami heads will respect his wishes to keep the franchise on the PS3. Its all in konami's hands and how they want to make there money. it also depends on PS3 sales. if it doesnt reach at least 9 million before 08 begins they might just announce the port to the 360 at the end of the year but they also have to take into consideration the amount of consoles MGS4 will sell and other franchises will sell dramatically changing the market and possibly showing no need for a port because of the large fanbase. The PS3 right now is at 4.5 million(possibly 5 million now) without any killer apps and we are a whole month before any real titles like LBP, HS, LAIR, HAZE, URTIII, The Eye of Judgment or even HOME imagine how much it will sell when we see the FFs, KZ2s, MGS4s, GT5s, KH3s. they should change that play beyond crap to to play variety(i know its cheesy) but its true.

9 million by 2008 is a tall order. I don't think you have a concept of the scale you speak of. It would be impossible to sell 9 million for the ps3 and not many games have even come close to that number. Don't be such a jackass next time #10.

Sony is prolly paying Konami, or begging them, to shut their trap about any xbox 360 development for MGS4 since it's the only real exclusive that they got. Once it drops for PS3 I bet they will announce it for Xbox, Konami would be crazy not to port it.

@ 10: I'd take Halo 3 over MGS4 any day of the week, but that's not really the issue, it's different strokes for different folks. You seem obsessed with sales figures, having mentioned it several times before in other topics and are clearly a PS3 fanboy. firstly i'm eagerly awaiting both consoles to go down in price so i can enjoy ALL the awesome games coming out. with that out of the way:
something tells me from watching the trailer that MGS4 will stay on the PS3. oh i dunno, maybe because the PS3 controller is already in the game.

Kojima already compared his game on the PS3 to be like an Imax movie and if it went to 360 it'd be like the DVD version of it.

and Snake's ass crack: it goes with the type of sneak suit. any folding in the fabric would rupture the illusion of the camo i think. it doesn't bother me a bit. maybe because i don't think about it.
so in conclusion: yeah HMV wants your money. don't give it to them, specially since that's like a whole year away.

I honestly don't care if MGS 4 goes to 360 because im not a big fan of MGS, but i would like to see it go to 360 just to see Sony loose one of their biggest games. I have both consoles and I am thinking about selling my PS3 soon, im thinking about it because i get a lot more use out of my 360 because my PS3 has really shitty online, their arcade is terrible and their store has barley anything. Another reason is lack of games. he only games I have on it are Resistance and Motorstorm, (motor storm is boring). The only upcoming games im looking forward too on the PS3 are Lair, Haze, and God of War 3, which is prety far down the road. Yea so my PS3 has jack shit on my 360, yes my 360s in repairs rite now but i dont care as long as i get it before Halo 3. Yea evryones saying that PS3 is goin to make a comeback? OK, they have 1 decent game, coming ouit with a few more, 360 has Halo 3 the biggest fricken game evr, Bioshock, Masseffect, Two Worlds, A better version of GTA4 and Madden, not to mention a price cut, Gears 2 sometime down the road, dead rising 2 possibly sometime down the road, a far better online service, Ace Combat 6, o yea and pretty much every multiplat has been better on 360, and o yea look at all the good games the 360 already has. Yea some 360s are defective, so what just send in for a new one or get it fixed so it doesnt die again, thats pretty much the only thing PS3 has on 360.

Sony will still have a hard time selling 9mil. systems by 08. There are no system selling games that are coming up Lair, HS, LBP and Home would do little to sell system this holiday season. Konami is in the business of making money not being loyal to Sony and right now the money is in multiplatform games. Third party exclusives is going the way of the dinosaur.

I highly doubt the PS3 could actually sell that many units considering that the PS3 is still highly overpriced and still has very few games coming this holiday season. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy won't be coming out till early 2008.

if there is any system selling games coming out this year it'd be Halo 3, COD 4, or some sports game. most of which are on the 360 anyway. Little Big Planet and Warhawk however will be system sellers for PS3 i think.
as great as games like Mass Effect and Heavenly Sword may be, i can't see the casual gamer eating them up. just the hardcore in the know like you and me.

I highly doubt Little Big Planet and Warhawk will be system sellers, but they will do good.
Think about it Warhawk is only multiplayer, no campaign, which makes it a short lived game with low replay value, and Little Big Planet is chidish and pointless, sure it may look fun but i doubt that anyone would buy a PS3 just for those games. So, yea they most likely will not be system sellers but they will do good, because PS3 owners are so desporate for some decent games.

ah, no single player for warhawk?...well scratch that then. Little Big Planet however garnered more attention then any other game this year tho. it may not be a system seller, but it certainly drew more attention to the PS3.
just by showing the gameplay to anyone they'll say "that's for PS3? intresting...". it just has an appeal that can span across any age and sex. much like a Pixar film.
Halo 3 will dominate both platforms this year however. what's the preorder at what? 5 million copies now? yeah GOTY IMO.

Ignore Play magazine since that mag is Sony.
Check out Bioshock (only thing up on metacritic is a review by xbox UK, so don't believe that either) reviews when they come in. I heard most sources were rating it in the 9s. Not sure why metacritic doesn't have them up.
So one of PS3s saving graces is sh*t. Have fun waiting for those other awesome games that are coming out in 2008, oh wait, they got delayed until 2009.

People need to accept it is going to happen. Am I going to hold off buying on the PS3 and wait for the 360 version? No, it was designed for the PS3 in mind. But I will reconsider picking up the 360 version if it is repackaged with new material (snake vs. monkey, vr missions, trailers etc.) and gamerscore.

These shops are often run by stupid people and stuff is often published and maintained by stupid people who make all sorts of stupid mistakes. I'm convinced that this is just another stupid error or perhaps someone's deliberate effort to cause a stir or test to see how many pre-orders are taken before they declare that they accidentally uploaded it to the 360 section rather than the PS3 section of the website.

After watching the video on PS3, I have concluded the following:
A: Japanese people are sick
B: Japanese people are retarded
C: If you like this game seek help
In the video:
- He grabs the statues dick while hes hiding
- Huge emphasis on his ass
- Enemies cant see you lying on the floor with so called "camouflage"
- His boots don't turn camouflage
- He can spawn a barrel over top of his head
- Rolling at 2-4 mph in this barrel can kill enemies
- He looks at a swimsuit magazine to get better
- All aspects of the shooting looked horrible
- Enemies can smell you when your in the trash can (wouldn't the can smell the same with you in it or not?)
And I forgot to mention
After a holdup, rather then knock him out, or shoot him, or even snap his neck; Snake yanks on his ball sack.

after reading your post i've concluded:
those that point out that certain "emphasis" in MGS4 are probably looking a little too long and hard if you catch me. lol
i found the "sick" to be humorous as i think it was intended. it kinda sounds like you are a very short minded person who can't appreciate a different take on something.
the new camo thing would suck if Snake totally blended so the player couldn't see him. anymore and it'd just be the invisible suit. who knows they are still tweaking the graphics. i agree that the boots should turn camo also, but in this new environment it's easy for the heels to blend in. black goes with anything.
i don't think the barrel roll killed the enemies but most likely knocked them out.
and i don't know about you but i certainly feel better after viewing a girly mag!
and i kinda like how they give you the option to play like Splinter Cell, Gears of War or FPS mode. FPS mode looked like any other FPS game.
everything else you pointed out as being either a fault or "sickness" is just opinion based.
EXCEPT the trash dumpster hiding. Kojima explained that you can't stay long or you will contract a stench and can be detected easier.
so next time you make a list please check it twice, yah?

Money is money. There is more to be had, as a game publisher, on the 360. It might change in three to four years if the PS3 gets it's act together but I doubt that very, very much.
Here's why MGS4 WILL come to the 360.
* The 360 has a wide install base, and that's where the money is.
* Konami isn't an in-house publisher and they haven't pledged allegiance to one console or another.
* The MGS series has appeared on the Xbox before.
* Kojima can't be bullied by Sony. We've seen that in the past.
* This is apparently the last opus for Kojima and the last entry of the Metal Gear series. I would assume Konami would milk it for every penny it can earn, much like Bungie is doing with Halo 3.
I don't personally pay mind to one retailer chain or another in this regard unless some sort of flyer scan has hit the 'web, because my gut instinct and rational mind has pieced together the puzzles, and it all leads back to money, really.
360 owners, as well as PS3 owners will see what all the hype is over crotch-crushing by the Christmas season 2008, I believe.

Sony can't bully Kojima, but Konomi can. if Konomi knows any better they would port it.
however, if every console had everything the other had, competition and the growth of the game industry will fail.
the idea of competition is to 1up the competitor and bring a new franchise or idea and improve upon older ones. it keeps the ball rolling so to speak.
say console X has an epic title that takes advantage of it's exclusive features, console Y would then bring out something to counter it.
i could also be totally wrong, it just seems right to say it. anyone wanna go ahead and pwn me?
