All the fanboy
speculation about leaked ads and rumors of an Xbox 360 price cut can finally be put to rest, because Microsoft has officially come clean. Today, Microsoft
announced that this Wednesday (August 8th) all Xbox 360 console versions will be getting a little cheaper in the United States. Tomorrow, the Core system will retail for $279 (a $20 price cut), the Premium will retail for $349 (a $50 price cut), and the Elite system will be available for $449 (a $30 price cut). Again, the new prices will go into effect this Wednesday and are only planned for the US, but we expect price cuts to spread worldwide soonish. And we know there are a few fanboys out there who've been waiting (nearly two years) for this to happen, so go fanboys go and get your cheaper Xbox 360 this Wednesday. You have our blessing.

DjDATZ @ Aug 7th 2007 1:16AM
Booya baby...been sayin it since before e3.
yea...and who DIDN'T see that coming?
sportsfan9691 @ Aug 7th 2007 1:21AM
how they heck is this going to help us if we already have a 360????????
Zeus the God @ Aug 7th 2007 1:27AM
3: YOU'RE RETARDED. Its for people who haven't bought one yet, and were waiting for a lower price. Its not at all supposed to help those who have already paid for one.
sportsfan9691 @ Aug 7th 2007 1:40AM
if your a fanboy then u should have a 360, im assuming that people on this site are 360 owners.
YoRone22 @ Aug 7th 2007 1:40AM
Zeus, it actually can. The core is $20 cheaper so when the main 360 dies you can have a core as a backup for Halo 3. :P
In all seriousness, I'm glad for this. Most of the hardcores have their console, but for the Madden/ GTA player, this is very good. :)
Toph @ Aug 7th 2007 2:22AM
It means I can possess the majesty of an Elite sooner than later...by um...twenty bucks.
Shawnzee @ Aug 7th 2007 2:40AM
There will be another price drop in October, core will be 250, prem will be 300 and the elite will be 400.
muppetmeth @ Aug 7th 2007 3:17AM
If you are right, Shawnzee, I may just a get a 360 instead of a ps3. For a while.
LilTmac2003 @ Aug 7th 2007 3:23AM
My PREMIUM 360 broke down on me... Sent it in to Circuit City [because I bought a 3 year warranty], they sent me a gift card with 430.99 [tax...] But I did not include the hard drive in, as I stated... I also bought an extra wireless controller... So tomorrow Im going to buy the Core, and the external HD-DVD drive as well...
Toph @ Aug 7th 2007 3:24AM
There probably won't be another drop in price until Holiday 2009 or later.
L @ Aug 7th 2007 3:25AM
I think its crap that its not $50 over all systems &only $50 my god so here in the UKwe mite only get £10-20 off =S Crap
UNSCleric @ Aug 7th 2007 3:31AM
It's only effective for the USA anyway.
RedJoggindSuit @ Aug 7th 2007 3:36AM
Why not $50 across the board? Maybe they don't want to seem as "cheap" as the Wii, but it's not like M$ is known for its high quality. I don't get it, they always seem to have the right idea, and then somewhere along the lines they try to see how they could fuck it up. IMHO
Elite-399
Premium-349.99
Core-247.98
BAM!! Good to go...
Nick @ Aug 7th 2007 4:36AM
I don't understand the pricing structure on the Elite. It was previously an $80 value over the Premium, and now we are to believe it is an $100 value over the Premium. That's just stupid. If the hardware value has decreased $50, then it should decrease that much over the spectrum.
Mike Candelaria @ Aug 7th 2007 4:47AM
cool now me and my wife can get one for her brother we were waiting on the price drop well played Microsoft . . . well played
SRU Phil @ Aug 7th 2007 5:47AM
HaHa, my friend just bought an Elite yesterday. :(
He = Owned
But best buy has a 30 day price guarantee though, doesn't it?
Brucie B @ Aug 7th 2007 7:16AM
@17 Yes, He needs to just bring the receipt back & they should reimbursed him.
Back on topic, SWEEEEEET!!!
I've been wanting another 360 for another room/parties. Never liked playing split screen.
Well now I can go get my Elite!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!
Grant @ Aug 7th 2007 8:14AM
a $20 price drop on the core?
thats still too high of a price point.... if it's not going to compete directly with the wii, whats the point.
If they're only going to drop it $20, they might as well discontinue it.
while the elite price makes it a little more round, i'm sure they could have afforded to knock off more than $30. to get HDMI and a bigger HDD is now $100 more, instead of just $80, expect to see elite sales drop.
Dusitn Everhart @ Aug 7th 2007 6:50PM
I read on Kotaku that the Halo 3 360 will retail for $399, kind of a rip-off seeing as it only has a 20gb HDD.
Mike @ Aug 7th 2007 10:47AM
Seriously what was the point of not announcing this at E3?
jason @ Aug 7th 2007 9:38AM
Get rid of the core already it cost more to upgrade the hard drive $280 plus another $100 to get a hard drive if you want one or drop the hard drive price by $30 or $50. This kind of stuff M$ does gets me pissed off at them.
It makes a lot more sense to drop all 3 of the systems $50
Slvrgun @ Aug 7th 2007 9:39AM
HDMI will be included on all Premiums once all the old stock is gone.
erivera3 @ Aug 7th 2007 9:53AM
Halo 3 is going to sell systems like frickin hotcakes. Watch this everyone *stares intently*
Paul @ Aug 7th 2007 10:31AM
@ Shawnzee
uhhh you are wrong....why would they make 2 price drops in the same year?? no way man.....i don't think that has ever happened to any video game system....
TrooperKal @ Aug 7th 2007 12:05PM
Canadian Price Drop just announced. Systems 100.00 CDN cheaper!
Saccia @ Aug 7th 2007 12:12PM
@24, I think there is a good point at not announcing this at E3. Think about it. Everyone at E3 announces a lot of new stuff. Things tend to get lost in the noise of "good news". So, you wait till your competition announces something at E3 that gets sort of drowned out..... then you hit everyone a few weeks later with your BIG BANG!
YoRone22 @ Aug 7th 2007 12:39PM
Mike, if they announced it at E3, how many consoles do you think they would have sold during July?
sportsfan9691 @ Aug 7th 2007 2:18PM
they might as well put the 360s down to like 100 bucks because they broke so freakin much!!!!
The Insomniac @ Aug 8th 2007 8:23AM
I purchased my 360 premium at Kmart 28 days ago. Apparently they have a 30 day price cut policy, so I'll be walking in there tomorrow for my $50 bucks.
Nice timing MS :-)
And thanks for the news guys.
