360 Rock Band to include wired guitar

Well kiddies, it's starting to look grim for the rock stars out there looking to get some wireless guitar action in Rock Band. According to the details on Amazon.com, the Xbox 360 version of the Rock Band bundle (currently priced at $199) comes with a wired guitar. The PS3 version, on the other hand, has a wireless guitar listed. We can't help but recall the price memo that listed a $20 discrepancy between the PS3 and 360 wireless guitars. Is the cost cutting solution to include a wired guitar with 360 Rock Band? It's looking that way, yes. If you want wireless freedom, you may just have to add $79 to your Rock Band purchase. Granted, none of this pricing information is official at this point, but we must point out (along with Joystiq) that right now you're signing up for a wired guitar if you pre-order the Rock Band bundle.

I'm thinking fanboys of the genre will probably pick up the Guitar Hero III guitar for Rock Band, instead, right?
Regardless, if and when I get my Rock Band on, I'll be sticking almost exclusively to the drums. That's the set I want to hear more about! :)

Whats up with That!!!

You can do without a wireless controller. Seriously. I think people are making way too much of this. I play GHII on my 360 with a wired controller and it works just fricking fine. Hell, I probably don't even need to buy a new guitar for this one.
Stop being whiny prima donnas about this and just play the damn game.

You actually do need a different guitar. Rock Band has 10 fret buttons.
Wireless is a big deal, only because everyone else is getting it and the Xbox 360 isn't because of MS's shitty handling of their hardware.
xenocidic @ Aug 8th 2007 10:52AM
why not just learn to play a real guitar ...
i mean other than the lack of cheevos ~ why not ...
MDJ2010 @ Aug 8th 2007 11:00AM
Personally I dont care if its wired, I mean mainly cos i will only get Rock Band for the drums, but even if I wanted the guitar I wouldnt care. I dont even notice that my GHII guitar is wired anyway! And as for the argument that 'well everyone else is getting it' - WHO CARES?!?!? Let the PS3 owning fools enjoy their wireless guitar while us 360 owners are playing GOW, GRAW, Halo3, Bioshock, GT4 and so on....

the man has a point, even the ugliest dude can get laid if he can bust out a good solo.
I think most guys would take some ass over achievements any day.... MOST guys.

Nice job using NeoGAF as a source -.- (really professional!)
The update yesterday addressed this- the retailers just haven't updated the package and listing yet.

Let's try this message again...
To answer why I don't bother learning to play a REAL guitar...
I can pick up Guitar Hero or Rock Band and just figure a few basics out and get to have fun with it, OR I can buy a guitar and struggle to learn how to play a few basics chords before giving up all together. I can also perhaps learn a few basic chords and get on the nerves of my friends for never actually PLAYING a song.
Either way my hobby will never get me laid by the ladies. As such I'll stick to Guitar Hero and Rock Band which is entertaining and something I can share with my friends at social events.
SuiXide @ Aug 8th 2007 11:26AM
...isn't a wired guitar more like the real thing anyways?
zOmBiEcLoWn @ Aug 8th 2007 11:34AM
If you already have a GH2 guitar, it will work with Rock Band. The 10 fret buttons are just 2 sets of the standard 5. The lower buttons are if you want to play a solo and look like you are really doing it.
Matt @ Aug 8th 2007 11:40AM
Well, if this comes to be it's complete B.S.
Would you 360 owners that are planning on purchasing the bundle pay $20 more to get the wireless guitar in the bundle? I absolutely would. I'm angry about this and want EA and Harmonix to know.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Aug 8th 2007 11:46AM
Can you buy a copy of this game, the drum kit, and nothing else?
In other words, can you play single player using only the drums?

"You actually do need a different guitar. Rock Band has 10 fret buttons."
Nah... Yes the new guitar will have 10 fret buttons, but the other five are for the same thing, only you don't have to strum when you press them.

The Amazon pricing doesn't support the memo to begin with. Chances are this'll get cleared up and change when the time comes around.
Personally, I'd almost rather have wired guitars because I don't want to worry about even more batteries.
Poddo @ Aug 8th 2007 1:24PM
My question is if its wired, How are 4 people supposed to play? My premium has 2 USB ports on the front, and one in the back. 2 guitars plus a drum set plus a mic, thats 4 controllers. ???
ccc @ Aug 8th 2007 1:28PM
@11
Are U kidding me? Some1 throw up a link to an article that verifies this statment about the xtra 5 buttons. If thats the case I'll just be buying the game by itself...hmm, will they be packaging it alone?
Josh @ Aug 9th 2007 12:32PM
i agree that the wired controller works just as good as a wireless i mean honestly are you planning on taking your guitar to the bathroom with you....
Tim @ Aug 8th 2007 5:32PM
@ccc
I've read the same thing about the extra buttons. GH2 guitars will work, but the five extra buttons are supposed to be for making hammer-ons and pull-offs easier during solos.
I'm sticking with my 2 GH2 guitars for my friends and I'll be playing the drum set. ;-)
Sorry I don't have a link to an article but I believe it was here on X3F somewhere...

"Nice job using NeoGAF as a source -.- (really professional!)"
Ummmm ... NeoGAF isn't mentioned anywhere in this article. Our only source is the Amazon listing itself, which was discovered by a Joystiq blogger.
IodineX @ Aug 10th 2007 2:11PM
I think we're kinda missing the point...Unless the GH3 wireless controller works for Rock Band...360 users are screwed if they wanna form a band, we only have 3 ports and theres gonna be 4 controllers...
ZombieXl @ Sep 5th 2007 9:48AM
I heard about this a little late. I already had a pre-order from when we were all thinking it was wireless.
On the $20 extra crap, why is the GH3 controller the same price on PS3 and 360 if its MS forcing the price higher?
I think this is more of an issue of EA's greed.
I'm going to cancel my pre-order if this doesnt change. Thanks for the big FU EA/RO/MS/whoever else.
