Right now, available on the Xbox Live Marketplace to all countries except Germany, is an action packed demo for John Woo's upcoming game
Stranglehold. The
Stranglehold demo weighs in at a rather hefty 1.28GB and features a taste of the campaign's Hong Kong marketplace gameplay as well as some intense combat and shooting fun. We advise giving the the demo a try to see if the "cinematic firefights" are something that are worth dropping your jaw over or if you can live up to John Woo's badass'icity. Go ahead, make Mr. Woo's day.

te kick ass game. its unbelivable all the shit you can totally destroy. it also shows that there is a multiplayer mode which im sure everyone was wondering about. it looks like you can do all the crazy shit you can do in single player on the multiplayer. so itll be cool as hell to blast people onlin in slow motion and tear some shit up bc there will be nowhere to hide. three more weeks and i cant wait!!! poor PS3 they have to wait until september now. hahah
ridestowe @ Aug 8th 2007 9:34AM

DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 9:44AM
360 = RRoD. Waiting for my coffin. :(
Boff @ Aug 8th 2007 9:44AM
I was gonna ask if it was any good and judging by the comments it is!!
Just have to wait till I finish work now....
Boff @ Aug 8th 2007 9:45AM
@DjDATZ: Ouch.
xenocidic @ Aug 8th 2007 9:48AM
i'll have to shoot home @ lunch and start the download
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 9:51AM
No worries, I just checked purolator right now, and apparantly at 8:07AM this morning, my coffin was "On vehicle for delivery". Which means my coffin'll be at my house today, and that (because I have practice and wont be home till 9 tonight) i'll be bringing it into the Purolator store tonight or more likely tomorrow morning.
which means this weekend i'll probably go without my toy. oh well...wouldn't have had much time for it anyways.
Kryptinite @ Aug 8th 2007 10:07AM
@DjDATZ
I'm with you there. Mine should be coming in today during lunch :(. Hopefully that 4 - 5 weeks is more like 4-5 days.
inmuse @ Aug 8th 2007 10:13AM
Looks like XLM is giving me issues:
"Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later.
Status code: 807b01f7"
derek @ Aug 8th 2007 10:20AM
i've been looking forward to this demo for months. first thing this morning i checked the marketplace ready to download it and now i'm getting the same error as others:
"Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later.
Status code: 807b01f7" Dammit!!
Adam Sutherland @ Aug 8th 2007 10:34AM
@inmuse
I am having the same problems. What gives? Is this a problem with the new update?
Toph @ Aug 8th 2007 10:42AM
@ DjDATZ:
You'll probably receive your replacement 360 around the 23rd, if I figure my timing correctly. That's at least per my experience I had with my replacement. Takes a week to get to McAllen Texas, and about another week to get back to you. They always overestimate how long it might take to get back to ya, it seems.
At the worst possible outcome, you'll have a replacement system for Halo 3! :)
inmuse @ Aug 8th 2007 10:46AM
For some reason Crackdown just sits at the "Loading Saved Game" screen for like 5 mins before I shut it off. Wonder if this has anything to do with the Xbox Live error??
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 10:46AM
@ Kryptinite: Well this'll be the 3rd time im sending in my box...so yea. First time: 4 busindess-day turnaround. 2nd: 7 business-day turnaround. I'm hoping this trend doesnt continue...and that this wont be a 10 business-day turnaround. so far its been only 2 business days since i called in the problem (today being the 3rd) and i'm about to get my coffin...seems normal enough.)
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 10:53AM
@ Toph
Well there's 2 things that we have better here. I was told by the service rep, AND the service manager (to which my call got escalated cuz it was my 3rd time) that in Canada, unlike the US, they just send out a replacement console. In the US, they try to repair YOUR console first, then if that fails they send you a replacement. Makes the process a helluva lot easier AND, more notably, faster. (I figure its cuz, and no offense to anyone here, all of the cheap Mexican labour in the US, that Canada doesn't have. LOL)
2nd thing is...the local service centre is only a 30 min drive from my house. IF ONLY they let me just come in (like sony did with my PS2 [5 times actually]) and do everything there without the postage, it would save them money and it would save me time and headaches. Notably more, the "service" centre that my box got sent to last time, which I'm assuming it'll get sent to this time too, is on my daily drive to work, so it wouldn't even be out of my way.
Oh well, its not my money they're wasting. Its theirs.
erivera3 @ Aug 8th 2007 10:58AM
Hey, do you think it would be a good idea to have them ship me a coffin despite my xbox 360 being completely fine right now? The reason I say this is that in case my 360 decides to crap out on me closer to Halo 3 I would want to get it shipped out there ASAP to get it fixed, so if I can save a few days of them shipping the coffin then maybe I would save a few days and get it back before Halo 3 comes out.
Is that something they would let me do, or do I HAVE to send in a 360 if they give me a coffin right away? Just trying to plan ahead here.
tdominey @ Aug 8th 2007 11:00AM
I'm getting that same error ("Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later.
Status code: 807b01f7")
MDJ2010 @ Aug 8th 2007 11:05AM
I managed to get the demo this morning (UK) and since cant get onto xbla so something is obviously up, but will no doubt be fixed soon. As for the demo, it is incredible fun! I had no intention of getting this game but now its added to an ever growing list of must-have upcoming 360 titles! Its a great complete demo that really lets you know what this game is all about - non-stop action packed fun!!!! As for the coffin Id like to know the same as erivera3
Brian @ Aug 8th 2007 11:10AM
Yeah, XBL obviously took a shit, because it says it's connected, but the ads don't display and I can't run FFXI since it requires XBL to run PlayOnline Viewer.
justinwhy? @ Aug 8th 2007 11:11AM
Still having doubts about this game but it would be kinda nice if I could connect to Live and download it. Somethings definitely up.

@ erivera3
If they send you a coffin, they expect your 360 to be coming soon too. They don't like leaving "tickets" or "service requests" open like this because it a) leaves a backlog in their system and b) when someone looks at the overall performance of the team, an open ticket that is taking 3 or 4 months to "resolve" greately increases their average and makes them look worse.
Those are 2 of many reasons why they wouldn't want to let you have a coffin.
You COULD try calling them (or doing it online thru the new sit [but be sure to register your 360 at http://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx]), get them to ship the box to you, and then once it shows up, either thru the site i just gave you, cancel the repair by calling them and telling them you don't need the repair anymore because your box is fine (or again, you can cancel it online).
That way you COULD be left with a box, the only problem is...the next time you have a service request, they'd want to send you another box...
There's also the fact that service centres (at least here in Canada) get switched somewhat often. In the almost 2 years that the 360's been out, I've had 2 different locations, and my friend had another location different from my 2. So really, you wouldn't even know if that was the right location for you to be sending your box...and you wouldnt want that.
So really, I don't think there is any good way for you to be left with a box...sorry.
Brucie B @ Aug 8th 2007 11:28AM
@22 erivera3, No It Expires if they don't receive it within a month.
THE DEMO ROCKED!!!! WOW, Can't believe how Great that Demo Was!!! I'm Now more then ever interested in this game!!
erivera3 @ Aug 8th 2007 11:29AM
Fair enough, thanks for replying DjDATZ, I just have to pray that my 360 either bricks NOW or doesn't brick ever again!!!
Thanks for the help on the matter, I will have to take super care of my 360 until I get to halo 3!
kHz Glitch @ Aug 8th 2007 11:42AM
I finished the Download and then XBLM Went on the fritz and it won't let me play, this sucks!
xenocidic @ Aug 8th 2007 11:42AM
@17, when I got my coffin , I kept my 360 around for a few weeks anyways because I could still play XBLA games and I could sometimes get it to read discs... when it stopped reading discs altogether, I sent it in.
but I'm not sure how long they'll allow you to keep your support ticket open without actually sending your unit in.
also, don't bank on your unit breaking and maybe it won't (a knock wood kind of thing)
KillerGreen @ Aug 8th 2007 11:55AM
Damn, I wanna try this but when I try to download the new update It gives me an error. Pretty annoying... hopefully it will work later on.
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 12:04PM
@ erivera3 again.
I actually broke my previous unit on purpose. I was getting read errors on the disc, with the drive obviously being the problem...so what did i do? i left my 360 on for days on end with the disc spinning in there and that eventually "almost" killed it. and then i reported it, got this new unit at the end of june...and with it being the beginning of august now, that unit is now bricked.
you want to hear my genius idea? If your 360 bricks close to halo 3, just go to walmart, buy a new one on your credit card, and return it when you get your 360 back. that'll give you a change to try out an elite too! :P lol
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 12:07PM
That's what i'll do if mine fucks up close to the release date of Halo 3. But with this new unit...I don't see how it could. lol
erivera3 @ Aug 8th 2007 12:10PM
@ DjDATZ
Walmart will let you buy a 360 and even play it and then return it for full money back? How long can you keep it for if you do that?
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 12:42PM
"Walmart will let you buy a 360 and even play it and then return it for full money back? How long can you keep it for if you do that?"
No. Not knowingly. But if you tell them it bricked in the first 30 days, they'll gladly take it back.
Of course, this is SCAMMING walmart, but it's walmart. Who the fuck cares?
Their return policy on electronics is 30 days. (Here in Canada at least) So once you get to about 25 days, return it, go to another Walmart and buy another one.
PREFERABLY do this with cash, as they can't track that. Not that they will track it anyways. I've stolen games in different ways from walmart, more than 5 times, and my CC was involved but nothing came of it.
2 REALLY IMPORTANT POINTERS:
1) KEEP YOUR FUCKING RECIEPT! unless you want a giftcard for walmart valued at $400 US.
2) If they say "oh we can't give you that amount cuz its too big so we'll put it on a gift card" (that is if you bought it with cash and not a CC) argue with them and go as high as necessary to get your cash back. You paid with cash and you deserve cash back not some gay/lame giftcard that you'll never use.
I would say use Walmart instead of BestBuy (or Circuit City [we dont have circuit cities here in Canada so I don't know their procedures]) because here in Canada, BestBuy tracks the serial #s of their electronics (ex. controllers, wheels, consoles) and does not allow for nearly as much scamming as Walmart. At walmart, everything is more anonymous than bestbuy (at least thats the way it is here in Canada)
Send me an FR...GT: DjDATZ. And I'll tell you more.

i am getting th same "Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later.
Status code: 807b01f7" message. although i can still go to the rest of the marketplace, just not the demos.
Grindstone @ Aug 8th 2007 1:39PM
erivera3 and MDJ2010:
So my good friend got the RROD, called it in, got his coffin, but decided one last time to see if the 360 would work (he'd sent us pics of his 3 ring death machine so we could verify it). Sure enough, the 360 worked flawlessly. He called in, embarressed about the whole ordeal, and they told him that his coffin would be valid for 30 days, after that, he would have to call it in again. So, he spent the next 2 weeks breaking his console by stuffing it in the freezer and then super heating it inside closed areas. Surprisingly, it RROD'ed again and he sent it off. He should get his repaired unit in the next week.
erivera3 @ Aug 8th 2007 1:45PM
@ Grindstone
So maybe I should order a coffin 30 days before Halo 3 release just in case? Interesting.
DjDATZ @ Aug 8th 2007 2:03PM
@ erivera3:
You know you can add people through Xbox.com right? Cuz thats how I just added you...lol
If you ARE going to order a box, order it about on the 1st of sept or so.
@Grindstone: thanks for the second hand experience.
Big Bird @ Aug 8th 2007 2:30PM
Walmart also tracks serial numbers on units. It will print on your reciept. Also walmart policy is 3 items returned without reciept will flag you. You wont be able to return something without reciept for 6 months to a year after that. They track every return without reciept I took back a 2 dollar item that didnt work and they took my drivers license just to exchange it without a recipte so beware!
erivera3 @ Aug 8th 2007 2:55PM
Aight, thanks DjDATZ, I'll meet up with you hopefully tonight then for some Halo 2 action or something.
Thanks again for the advice on the box.
