Just this morning, a promotional case of
Halo 3 Mountain Dew Game Fuel arrived at Fanboy Towers. The box stood alone on the front step, the delivery man out of sight. We can only assume he was eaten by the X3F guard bear, Toby. Such has become the fate of many delivery men (and yet not one mailman; those guys are
metal). We cracked open the case to find two cans of the stuff nestled inside. Though our desire to sample it was ferocious, we wouldn't dream of our first taste being
warm. Oh no, it had to be cold, so cold it might have been frozen by the Devil's wings in the 9th circle of Hell itself. So, we put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Finally, the moment of truth arrived. We cracked it open and ... it was sweet. Damned sweet. Drinking
Halo 3 Game Fuel is, to put it simply, like drinking a
Pixy Stick. Whether that is good or bad is completely up to interpretation.
The soda has more caffeine than regular Mountain Dew, and we definitely feel edgier than we did before drinking the soda. We're not quite sure that's the sort of "edge" it's supposed to give us, but we digress. Should you desire some
Halo 3 flavored Mountain Dew, it should start hitting stores next week, though we've received
reports that it's already available in some areas. If you manage to wrangle some for yourself, feel free to share your opinion here.

The only way I wouldn't dig this Game Fuel is if it tasted like Livewire or the red Amp. Those suck. Normal Dew, normal Amp, Code Red and the purple Pitch Black from back awhile ago are the better!
erivera3 @ Aug 9th 2007 5:23PM
How'd you fanboys like it?
Fish Face McGee @ Aug 9th 2007 5:24PM
Does it taste like a pixy stik like Monster does, or does it actually taste, you know, good?
Jonathan Murrell @ Aug 9th 2007 5:27PM
I think its good. Having come out on Monday here in Pineville, Louisiana, I picked up a case at Wal-mart and just like the report it is very sweet but packs the right kind of punch.
J.W. @ Aug 9th 2007 6:19PM
It tasted exactly like Limewire to me, personally.
Aaron @ Aug 9th 2007 5:35PM
It was good, kinda like cherry bubble gum flavored. Found mine in a bottle though not a can.
Nick @ Aug 9th 2007 5:41PM
I tried it for the first time last Saturday for my first taste of soda in at least 3 weeks. Then on Wednesday I was able to buy a case myself, but the Saturday supply was easily over 1000 cans of it and it tastes quite good even if you aren't able to get it cold at all.
Sam Meyer @ Aug 10th 2007 8:42AM
Yeah i picked up a 20 OZ bottle today at a Gas station. It's pretty good but like you said might be a little sweet. It kind of reminds me of Live Wire.
Dash @ Aug 9th 2007 6:05PM
I'm drinking a 20oz bottle of it right now.
Damn good stuff (and cheaper than regular dew at my local store).
Xanto @ Aug 9th 2007 7:59PM
I'm guessing there's no chance for a diet version of it. I'm diabetic =[
Richard Mitchell @ Aug 9th 2007 8:13PM
"I'm guessing there's no chance for a diet version of it. I'm diabetic =["
I'm not diabetic, but I'd prefer a diet version too.
bodedarma @ Aug 9th 2007 8:52PM
it can be found in pittsburgh at several convenient stores. dont drink pop so i cant tell you what it tastes like. sorry..charlie.
Patrick @ Aug 9th 2007 10:17PM
Ummmm, well.... if someone gave me a case I wouldn't say no. But I don't now have a craving for this. It tastes kinda like cough syrup, but im also not big on energy drinks. I dunno, I think thy should have just done regular dew branded with Halo.
colin @ Aug 9th 2007 11:09PM
@patrick,
how can you not like cough syrup?
dextromethorphan for the win!!!

Blind Spider 11 @ Aug 9th 2007 11:39PM
I love the can art and box art plus it tastes great!
Zeus the God @ Aug 10th 2007 1:40AM
I'd take Monster over this any day. If only I could find a twelve pack of Monster.
Wil @ Aug 10th 2007 2:00AM
You shouldn't even be drinking Soda anyways. The acidity in soda is so high that for your body to properly dilute the acid it has to leech calcium from your bones. Also, the preservative in it has been found to cause Alzheimer's. The 'fake' sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, suppresses your minds ability to tell the rest of the body it is no longer hungry, thus causing you to drink more and eat more, thus obesity. HFCS also increases insulin resistance, which may very well lead to type-2 diabetes. Simply: Soda is horrible, horrible stuff.
We have the highest calcium intake, but the most bone related diseases -- further we have the highest intake of soda. We don't use real sugar in soda, such as soda you find in Mexico or Europe, because the USA taxes sugar import. Easier to just use fake sugar instead. Interestingly enough, sugar and caffeine are appetite suppressors, the opposite of HFCS.
If you want to feel hyped up, just drink some coffee with good, pure sugar. Better off, just drink it black. Or, if coffee tastes bad, I believe they sell caffeine pills now also.
Wil @ Aug 10th 2007 2:23AM
Also, just reading, you shouldn't be drinking diet-soda either. The truly fake sugar in diet sodas, sucralose, has been known to cause many problems throughout the body. The most known of which is cancer, though admittedly you would have to consume copious amounts of it to gain this effect.
Lesser known effects include a statistically significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin, which ironically enough may very well cause a lessening of control of diabetes. Also, because it is a fake sugar, only the liver can properly use it as an energy source. What is absorbed into the body just floats around and causes havoc via organ inflammation, anti-fertility effects, and neurotoxic damage. Again, this fake sugar suppresses your minds ability to tell the body it is not hungry, thus causing you to eat more, and again thus obesity.
I noticed this about two years ago when I would chew sugar-free gum and suffer stomach cramps that would last all day, eating anything would cause them to become worse. Diet soda? Yeah. Again, bad, bad stuff.
Sadly, the majority of Americans don't care. They'll say that today, that tomorrow they might die, but by the time they are 50 they'll be thinking differently, wondering what the hell they did when they are overweight and have diabetes.
Cool cans, though. lol
JayFight @ Aug 10th 2007 5:08AM
@will you also forgot caffine causes migrains with a touch of sensitivity to light and sound as a result of the migrains which is why i stoped drinking mountain dew even though i love the stuff to death i just couldn't take the pain i tried to give up all caffinated drinks but then caffine is almost as addictive as some drugs if not more so and it's not regulated like them though it should be....and on a side note i might try one (just one) can of this stuff just to see how it tastes
lysernix @ Aug 10th 2007 8:49AM
One is all it takes for relapse... be careful.
And... I tried some of this. It seemed to give me a stomach cramp in addition to tasting a little strange (with a little strange after taste). Well I'll probably still get a pack of cans to save a couple and drink the rest or my kids can drink them (although when my son tried one he turned into "Barricade" and talking in a robot voice for several hours).
baby sea tuna @ Aug 10th 2007 8:57AM
This disgusts me on so many levels.
Grant @ Aug 10th 2007 9:17AM
MEE TOO!!!
i too want to know the feelings of a cracked out squirrel!
@wil,
the tests that have shown artificial sweetners as cancerous were done in like the late 70s early 80's and debunked a long time ago in the fact that they were giving the test animals the equivalent of a ton and a half of the sweetner in a very short period of time.
While it's a far cry from good for you, art. sweetners are by no means cancerous unless you plan on hooking yourself up to a pure IV of them.
erivera3 @ Aug 10th 2007 10:18AM
Drinking a can of pop every so often is perfectly ok. Drinking 5 or 6 cans a day is not a good idea. Anything in moderation is fine, just enjoy yourself.
SDMF @ Aug 10th 2007 1:36PM
thanks for the psa, i never could have imagined that soda is not good for you.
As for the actual drink, it tastes just like livewire, its not bad, but i prefer regular md
Wil @ Aug 10th 2007 1:45PM
@22:
Thus why I said you would have to consume a lot of sucralose for it to be cancerous -- it's just a good idea to be aware of while also acknowledging that it's pretty horrible for your body overall.
@23:
Oh yeah, I agree. I still have an orange soda/rootbeer (whooo love orange soda? Iiiii love orange soda. I do I do I do.. ohh ohh.) every so often, but I drink just mostly water now. A lot of it.
Dan @ Aug 10th 2007 7:03PM
Wil, isn't the fake sugar in diet sodas aspartame? And IIRC, aspartame is known to cause "holes in your brain" consumed in large amounts.
As you said, bad, bad stuff.
...Can't wait to try it.
pointlezznezz @ Aug 15th 2007 12:26AM
It's blended Code red and Livewire. That's all, I swear. The color is halfway between the two, and so is the flavor. Maybe it has a bit more caffeine.
Todd @ Aug 19th 2007 5:09PM
As soon as I saw a new Mt. Dew I grabbed it / that and because the Sheetz I was at was having a sale. I drink Mt. Dew almost everyday in every flavor. I took a big swig and it tasted like a bad slurpee mixed with children's motrin - I almost gagged. I almost trashed the rest down the sink but I ended up drinking the whole bottle because it was so damn hot that day. I did not realize the extra caffeine, no wonder my mouth ran like a ducks ass the rest of the day. But would I buy this sh*t again. No.
jinkywilliams @ Aug 20th 2007 5:12PM
This stuff rocks.
I bought a 2-liter bottle of it on Friday. After drinking all but a couple cups of it in the space of 30 min, and after reading that it was only a limited-edition beverage, I booked it back to Safeway and bought every bottle they had stocked (10).
I only have two bottles left.
I've made it a goal to spend a considerable amount of time and effort, trying to make this stuff stay around (like what happened with Code Red).
Speaking of Code Red, this stuff tastes like Code Red and Live Wire mixed together, but with a chernobyl-orange color that looks uncannily like orange antifreeze. It looks like it's actually glowing.
Game Fuel FTW.
Ryan @ Aug 20th 2007 9:34PM
I went to a friends house earlier today. She's a rabid Dew-drinker like me and she already had the stuff even though, surprisingly I'd never heard of it. Awesomely designed cans and box, so cool I asked for a can to take home along with the box.
I thought the stuff tasted surprisingly like Monster Assault with a hint of orange and cherry after-taste. Not a good taste, not a bad taste, and it's very sweet , but I definitely felt a kick after I drank a warm can of it today.
whataslacker @ Sep 7th 2007 1:31AM
Hated this stuff. Looked cool, sounded cool. but tasted like crap. Nothing like livewire or code red. Heck the ingredient list is nothing like those two either. And yes it is sickening sweet. our tasters thought Cotton candy mixed with clean supplies. One thought it tasted more like a cheap xmas candle smells. Gross.
