Halo 3 to include flamethrower and firebomb

So, onto the details. Everyone's favorite flamethrower will be treated as a third person weapon (think turret gun and missile pod), so you'll walk slower but you'll be able to shoot out a liquid stream of fire that can burn pillars, warthogs or the occasional bubble shield (no joke!). The second fiery weapon is the firebomb which acts very similar to the flamethrower's liquid fire, but more convenient and will be the fourth grenade type. Even cooler is the fact that the firebomb's fire will burn on the ground for a while allowing players to create walls of fire or traps in multiplayer. Suhweet! Head over to IGN to get all the specifics and details about the two new weapons everyone will be using to burn their opponents this September.
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in.]

If fire hurts the Spartan models it'll be retarded. There's some things that shouldn't bend the storyline.

man i think its pretty clear that bungie and ms are pulling out all the stops on this game. i think what makes it great is that the headlines always say what bungie WILL include in the game, and not what's missing.
Benjamin09 @ Aug 10th 2007 11:01PM
I cant imagine the pressure the guys are Bungie are facing right now. They have so much hype to live up to. I'm going to bet the guys don't get to leave the office for very long.
Zeus the God @ Aug 10th 2007 11:05PM
God, you guys, they don't have to live up to shit. The game could be the shittiest game ever created, and it will still "live up to the hype" because no matter what, every fanboy will say its the greatest game ever. And fanboys is basically the entire fanbase of the game. It is a horrible series ever since Halo 2. Let it die.

I've played Halo 2 (owned it since release, just like the original Halo), and played the beta, as well. I know what its like, and its the same damn thing. If you say otherwise you'd be a liar.
How about you shut up, and don't post. If you're going to sit there and try to tell another person not to post just because you don't agree with it, maybe you shouldn't, yourself.

The cool thing is on the bungie.net's wekly update they say that there are still alost of weapons we do not know about and some more new armor types. I just cannot wait September 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't tell someone to stop posting when you're the one talking shit about the 360's flagship title on a website about praising it. If you have nothing good to say, than shut the hell up. I respect your opinion on Halo franchise, but what I dislike is when you go out of your way to be a total buzzkill on everyone's pre-Halo 3 excitement. Why don't you bitch about what you don't like in Halo 3 AFTER the game is out so that you actually have a finished game to criticize. This is a website for being happy and positive about the Xbox 360 and it's games. You want to bad-mouth Halo 3? Go to PS3 Fanboy. Because quite frankly, those are the only people stupid enough to look down upon one of the greatest franchises in gaming. Zeus, suck my balls.
ryan @ Aug 11th 2007 2:30AM
oh oh, zeus suck mine too!
i seriously don't understand why people don't like Halo. It's got great characters and an epic plot. the gameplay is solid. the score is amazing and the marketing potential is through the roof.
can you really see a Killzone brand can of Soda? maybe Killzone Bicardi 151, but my point is no matter how you cut it, Halo is a franchise for the history books.
Halo 3 looks to offer plenty of fun, with so many options to battle and AND you can record all those goofy multiplayer moments you've seen but your buddy swears he did not...oh the memories...
Killzone 2...just looks depressing. but hey, some people are into cutting their wrists sooo....
intRvenous @ Aug 11th 2007 3:21AM
HOLY SHIT. The new vehicles are sick... can't wait to try the USNC Hornet.
Screens are amazing - I originally cringed that Bungie was sticking with the bright colors instead of opting for the 'gritty, realistic, washed-out' look that is all the rage (MGS4, GRAW, Gears, etc.) Not any more - the look is tight and crisp - love it.
Why are people still hating on it? Oh that's right, because once something is popular, people can't wait to see it fail...
Bungie has something to say about that.
Josh @ Aug 11th 2007 3:43AM

Josh @ Aug 11th 2007 3:45AM

Zeus the God @ Aug 11th 2007 3:50AM
Oh, it seems I have struck a few fanboy's nerves...
@15: Fuck off, you dimwit. I know a Hell of a lot more about video games than you do. Just because I have a distaste for a mediocre game that you happen to like doesn't mean that I don't know anything about it. As a matter of fact, I know almost everything there is to know about Halo 3 to date, and I must let you know, its not anything new. Yeah, they have a film feature, online co-op, a map editor, and a few new usables, but thats nothing new to a majority of the game, and none of those features will add anything new to the gameplay. Halo is and always will be a generic game.
I repeat this again, for my small minded friends: Halo is mediocre; always has- always will be.
@16: Ah, funny you should mention bitching. I don't want to hear it, so shut up.
Oh, and you might want to take your own advice and grow up, 'cus getting mad about someone's post OVER A VIDEO GAME is not mature in the least. kthxbai
@19: Oh, I didn't tell him to stop posting. I gave him an option to either stop telling others to not post or to not post himself. I never directly told him to stop posting. Nice try though.
Since when is Xbox 360 Fanboy "Halo 3 Fanboy"? Please, do tell, because this is the first I'm hearing about it. I will give whatever opinion I want, and if you don't like it? Too bad. Nothing you can say will make me stop. Its my right, grow up, and get the fuck over it.
Thats also a very mature comment. Suck your balls? Come on, you seriously want a guy sucking your balls? You must seriously be gay.
@20: You must be gay, too... I guess so. Anyway, Halo is the most over rated game ever created. Its not that I don't like it, its that I don't like the undeserving attention it gets when there are other revolutionary (I say revolutionary because Halo 3 isn't) titles that get none.
Halo has done nothing particularly special for the console FPS genre other than the replay system (if that). Why is there a Halo 3 soda? There isn't. There is, however, Mountain Dew "Game Fuel" (the dumbest thing I have ever heard of) that happens to have MC on the can. Why? Because Mountain Dew is being paid by MS. Why else would they waste their money on making a distasteful (from what I have heard and read) product that only few will buy?
Since when is this about Killzone? It will most likely suck just like the first one, so lets stay on topic here.
Halo is a franchise for the history books? Hardly; other than being over hyped, its not "history book" worthy like Doom, Mario, Quake, Unreal etc is, because those games all brought MAJOR innovations to gameplay or game design. Halo has failed to do either in all of it's titles.
Halo 3 = generic. Get over it.

And please, you can't be stupid enough to think that your opinion is a fact.
erivera3 @ Aug 11th 2007 4:22AM
@24
ummmmm halo 3 brought something unique to both gameplay and game design. It's art direction is completely unique, unlike every new "next-gen" game that tries to be as dark and colorless as possible. The gameplay, founded by Halo 1, made FPS playing on consoles what is it today; it literally revolutionized how shooters have been setup and played, and many many other games have copied the button layout and gameplay mechanics that Halo brought fresh to the table.
The storyline is unparalleled in many people's opinions, and the Halo series has always been notorious for including not just one great thing but many many great things that make the games superb. They didn't have to give us Forge, or 4 person ONLINE coop, or massive player customization, or the new equipment options, but they know that people want something fresh and yet also want the game to still be Halo, and it looks like Bungie has succeeded as always!
Don't come to the xbox360fanboy page if you are going to try and crap on everyone's excitement for this game, the flagship title of Microsoft, Bungie, and the xbox consoles. The first two games made the xbox, and Halo 3 will make the xbox360 whether you want to admit it or not, so go bitch somewhere else about why it is so "overhyped"; meanwhile, over 1 million pre-orders have been sold and millions of fans will be enjoying the game come september 25th.
Zeus the God @ Aug 11th 2007 5:59AM
@27: Really? You're correct, but I don't see where I said anything was fact that was opinion based. When I said the game was mediocre, I was saying that as in my opinion. If I were saying it as if it were fact, I would have clarified that.
Tell me, though, what is something that has significantly changed the gameplay between Halo: CE and Halo 2.
There has been nothing. Halo: CE was new for consoles, but they haven't made the game as "fresh" of an experience as Halo: CE was.
Its the same thing.
Zeus the God @ Aug 11th 2007 6:09AM
@24: A game's "color pallet" does not define gameplay and also does not further game design (a.k.a. graphics engines/game engines).
Halo: CE. The one quality game in the franchise... Yeah, that made things popular on consoles. Why? Because it was the first and only first person shooter on the Xbox console for quite a while. Otherwise, it probably wouldn't have caught on.
The storyline is unparalleled? I hate Final Fantasy, but from what I have played, the storyline is much, MUCH more epic than Halo's. Halo's story line is pretty cliche if you think about it... Oh, but they combined 2 cliches together; nevermind. Zombies and aliens. EPIC!
Halo 3 will "make" the Xbox 360? What the Hell do you mean? There are tons of games as fun or more fun than Halo, and a lot more graphically pleasing. If you haven't bought a 360 yet, and you're waiting for Halo 3, then you're missing out.
Oh, and can you please show me where I'm bitching? Please, because you guys are being total hypocrites by saying that- because that is all you guys have done!

Yuccadude @ Aug 11th 2007 10:58AM
Yeah, Zeus, you want to know what changed between Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3? Well, Halo 2 had the Banshee, sword, dual-wielding, brute shot, beam rifle, covenant carbine, and the stupid laser, oh yeah, and a little thing called Xbox Live. Halo 3 Beta showed us that Bungie is putting equipment, new vehicles, new weapons, and new maps into the game, and also trying to make things more realistic, like how your vehicle slows down when you try driving through the stream.
It's all those little things that people who don't actually play the game don't notice. And yes, the Halo storyline is pretty epic, but it's not all contained in just the games, there are Halo books for you to attempt to read, but based on your previous comments, you might not be able to get through them all the way if you decide they aren't "epic" enough for you.
P.s, if you do read them, don't read The Flood, borrow it or just play Halo: CE again. The other 3 books are where it is at.
David @ Aug 11th 2007 11:21AM
OK, Zeus, you think Halo 3 is going to be mediocre, a lot of other people don't. If you don't want to play it, that's your loss.
And in the words of my good friend Josh (#25):
"I think we should wait for the game to come out and we test it before we label it mediocre!"
Project Ekim @ Aug 11th 2007 11:33AM
The only thing halo 3 is missing is clans but that is not there fault beacuse MS didnt allow them to because they cheated with H2(Second Friends List) However they still will have clan support on the site very soon and it will set up matchs for you and you just show up. So i take that back halo 3 is missing nothing! :)
Jon @ Aug 11th 2007 11:50AM
I'm really sorry...I hate to be a party pooper - but, the only reason I'm EXCITED about Halo3, is because I look forward to all the 10-14 yr olds NOT playing the games I have on Live. Sure, sure, its a bit harsh. While this game will definitely be good, the amount of hype its getting is actually pretty annoying - for me, at least. I'm not trying to say thats how it is, its just how I feel. Maybe I'm all alone on this thought, and I will be left in the dark while the world plays Halo3 together on Live...
Zac LaCombe @ Aug 11th 2007 12:12PM
Ahhhh, to my dear friend Zeus:
Just because you use correct grammar doesn't make a point valid. Halo doesn't need to be revolutionary. It's a big deal because people like it. What part about this don't you understand? Bungie has never said "Halo 3 is goin 2 b so uber-revolushunariez..zomg!!11!" They even stated that it wasn't a revolution as much as just an evolution, and I, for one, am quite OK with. Every game you mentioned was revolutionary, but mediocre at best. Every "hardcore" gamer tends to find problems with Halo versus *insert their revolutionary game of choice*, but if you honestly believe that Halo is not a big deal then you're obviously oblivious to the gaming world. I don't sit around calling your game of choice lame, and I advise you to please not call our games of choice horrible or whatever. If Halo had only sold half a million copies, you'd be gushing over it, but because it's a part of pop culture and famous in many countries, you have a problem with it.
Halo games and news will always make the headlines here because this is the Xbox fanboy site, and we all know that Xbox fanboys adore all things Halo. Get off of your high horse, man.
ryan @ Aug 11th 2007 12:45PM
Zeus, what games do you think are above mediocre? what games would you deem average/good/revolutionary? what's in your console right now? what should we be talking about besides Halo 3? what game could be so important to bash another with petty comments on X3F?
and please don't say Wii fitness, or i will kill you with my virtual sawed-off.
abbazabba @ Aug 11th 2007 12:45PM

CalabreZ @ Aug 11th 2007 1:38PM
THIS GAME IS SHAPING UP NICELY!!!
Do you guys remember playing the beta thinking ZOMG111 G4ylo 2.5? Seems like they put in a lot of work since then.
I'm kinda surprised X3F hasn't covered Forge that extensively. It's one of those unbelievable features that greatly change the game.
STILL, ONE MAIN CONCERN FOR ME AND SURELY OTHERS: GRAPHICS. If they fail here I'll be really disappointed, considering how beautiful COD4 is.
Ross @ Aug 11th 2007 1:46PM
Let me preface this comment with the fact that I love Halo:CE and Halo 2, so much that I actually bought Halo 2 for Vista and got all 1000 achievement points.
Bungie themselves have said that Halo 2 wasn't the game it could have been and that there were many things (including a more satisfying interlude ending) such as weapon balance, BxR, brutes, etc.
Halo: CE was revolutionary in that it was the best console fps ever tuned, not because it was the best FPS ever made. Halo 2 was more of the same, with many additions and tweaks that made it a highly enjoyable game and one of the most impressive looking Xbox games, second only to Team Ninja's offerings, Burnout, etc. The most "revolutionary" part of Halo 2 was the part that no one has been able to copy yet: the party based multiplayer system. Being able to stay with a group of people and automatically matched to a similarly skilled group of people. The matching wasn't perfect, but it worked. Hell, despite all the other games I have for 360, I still pop in Halo 2 from time to time cause I still find it enjoyable, and if Zeus thinks mediocre that's his opinion. Whether or not someone likes a game doesn't my enjoyment or how I fell about it.
Finally, until I get my hands on Halo 3, play 4 player co-op, screw with friends in Forge, have campaign score wars with my friends I'll reserve judgement while giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt. According to them, this is the first time they havn't been rushing to finish content and features into the game at the last minute. Bungie is throwing everything they've ever wanted in Halo but didn't have the time to do into Halo 3. Also, based on the EGM article, there's a lot more in store for us, and its looking better than ever.
In short, it doesn't matter what other people think of Halo:CE or Halo 2, its your opinion that matters. Talking about games shouldn't be like discipleship.
CalabreZ @ Aug 11th 2007 1:49PM
I know a few people who share zeus's sentiments with Halo. People that didn't play Halo 2 online have every right to pass the game as mediocre. Halo 2 offline was awful, in comparison to the first.
ONLINE, however, Halo 2 shines as the greatest online experience. Seriously. I play games like Vegas and people are launching matches with uneven teams, hosts are booting players that are too good, and doing a bunch of unfair things. Halo 2 leaves everything balanced. It is the only party-based game since it came out (besides Shadowrun if I'm not mistaken.
Gears doesn't even embrace the perfection that is the party system. However I will admit Gears provided a simplistic, yet reasonable online infrastructure.
Developers really need to wake up. I want perfect online. Perfect. I don't wanna play Rainbow on a next-gen console with the same online components found last gen. Single player games last 12 hours on average. Multi player can last forever. COD4 is picking up the slack and the sloppiness from every non-Halo online shooter.
Does anyone agree?
oldxskoolxhollywood @ Aug 11th 2007 2:01PM
@ Zues
Seriously, do you have nothing better to do than post incredibly long, detailed comments about how you think you're right about Halo 3 and everyone else is wrong and stupid? I mean I could correct you on about a dozen stupid things you've said your last few comments, but I don't really care that much anymore since you and I both aren't changing anyone's mind about anything and none of this is affecting Halo 3 at all. The point I think we're all trying to put across is that we love the Halo franchise and it doesn't really matter what you think. You can bitch about generic this, and not revolutionary that, but I don't really feel like pushing this flamewar any further since I actually have better things to do than sit around and post shit comments about other people and things I don't like. I suggest you find a more productive hobby, Zues.

For a god, you aren't much Zeus. You'd be one of those irrational gods who gets drunk, screws a goose, then destroys a populous without even knowing it.
You can verbally lambast Halo all you want, but you are just a bitter minority. No other FPS console game compares, and the numbers clearly show that. So feel free to criticize a game that is still 44 days from launch, but you'll not find one recruit from here to support you and your pointless tirade.
Reread Zac LaCombe's posts for good measure, he has other valid points for you to consider.
Zeus the God @ Aug 11th 2007 3:59PM
Yeah, you guys, I have no life because I'm up late and arguing on a video game site? What am I gonna' do, call some of my friends and drive somewhere at 3 in the morning when they're asleep? Grow up. I'm not a PS3 fanboy. You guys who are all bitching about it are Halo fanboys. Post 33 is a perfect example of a Halo 3 fanboy. Not even taking into consideration what the other person said; assuming they are obsessed with a competitive console (that I don't even have, mind you), all in one, mindless insult.
@35: I fail to see how those changed the gameplay in any way. They may have enhanced it, but its also nothing new. Things that people who don't play don't notice? Umm, I have Halo 2 right here, and I have had it since it came out. Its been fun, but its gotten a bit old. I haven't played it in a while, so I might pop it in if I'm not doing anything else- either way, I have played the game numerous hours, and I have noticed what it offers.
The storyline isn't that epic. Books? Been there done that. Read through those. Waiting for the new one (currently reading through Stephen King's The Stand again). I must admit, they are pretty good, and while the Flood did take place through the first game, it was pretty good as well... The books handle the story better, but if the books weren't there, there wouldn't be much appealing about the story.
@37: Yeah, I think they're gonna' get some complaints about no clan support.
@38: Are you kidding? Halo 2 is chalk full of little kiddies screaming and bitching- oh, and trying to talk smack and be "gangsta." What makes you think Halo 3 will be any different. The only real way to get away from most of that is PC gaming.
@39: You don't seem to realize. I'm not saying Halo 3 will suck (at least I don't think I am- point out where I have, if I did.), I mean, I have pre-ordered it. I wouldn't pre-order a game that I thought would suck. I am saying, however that it brings nothing new to the table, and gets so much undeserving attention, its not even funny. I mean, its like Engadget nearing the iPhone release, and things will only get worse...
If Halo only sold half a million copies I'd be "gushing" over it? Are you serious? Please tell me you're kidding, because if you aren't, you seriously have a problem.
I don't know what "high-horse" you are talking about, as I haven't spoken down upon anyone, unless they had done so first.
I don't even think most people understand my first post (I think that most people here are illiterate). I said that Halo COULD be the shittiest game around and it would still "live up to the hype" so to speak, only because all the fanboys will cream about it night and day.
Not to mention the release of this game will be basically the end of most of the other games (be it better games or not), and will definitely block out other releases.
@40: Grow up, young'n.
Zeus the God @ Aug 11th 2007 4:18PM
@44: I did play Halo 2 online, and it was worse than most games I have played... A.K.A. it was too slow (if it was a tactical game, it would be fun), the hitboxes were TERRIBLE and the weapons were too unbalanced. Add in all the glitchers, modders, and trash talking tards, and you get a horrible online experience. It may have been pretty good when it first came out, and it was more mature people playing, but it wasn't long before the assholes got to it.
Greatest online experience? Hardly. CS:S, HL2: DM, Unreal Tournament 2004, The Unreal Championship games, Doom 3's online was kick ass (online co-op, too), and many others. Halo 2's online is not all that great.
Why doesn't Gears have "perfect" online as you say? Because it was a test run for the game's engine really. If you don't want to play Rainbow this gen with last gen mechanics, then what makes Halo 3 so different?
@45: No, you couldn't. Run along and play now, you have no valid points. Hobby? Working on cars, building computers, video games.
@47: LOL! That was actually funny! Much better insult than most others... Oh well, too bad you're completely wrong.
I'm not lambasting Halo. I'm pointing out a few facts. The first post was pure speculation and a bunch of dumbasses took it from there.
I really don't give a shit if people agree with me. I don't need people to agree with me to know for a fact that I'm right.
@41: Hmm... Why am I insulting you guys? I'm insulting people who insult me first. I don't know if you realize, but I hadn't said anything insulting in my first post. It was pure speculation, and you guys called me out on it, with your "internet flame throwers..."
Games above mediocre? UT3, Half-Life 2: Orange Box, Gears (online can be laggy, but the innovation is there no matter what), Turok. Halo CE was the only quality game in the bunch. Halo 2 was rushed with horrible detail to textures, problems when loading the textures (like you sometimes get in Gears, but instead at cinematics or when first loading, it was everywhere you looked), and problems with the bitmaps for explosions, etc.
ryan @ Aug 11th 2007 4:59PM
i agree with Half-life 2. the orange box is a sweet deal.
UT3 looks like it plays like past Unreal games: Fast deathmatch. it doesn't look fun. Gears i never got into because, well like with Killzone it just looks depressing, plus it played like a tank.
Halo 3 doesn't have to be revoulutionary, just fun. the new shit they got in it seems way funner than UT3. Half-life 2 had the gravity gun and a great single player, the multiplayer felt like nothing special.
and sorry that you are a misunderstood creature, but this is a fan site and from what i've learned any mis wording can lead to a very ugly string of feedback.
and i've noticed you preordered Halo 3, so i'm guessing it is worth your time, however mediocre it is.
bunjie took player's negative feedback from the beta and they will make sure the game is worth your time. so wait till it comes out, i can almost guarantee that you'll be impressed.
