HDMI 360s at Best Buy have their own SKU

X3F Reader and Best Buy employee Zathu hit us up with some sage wisdom for those hunting down HDMI capable Xbox 360s. According to Zathu, his store got a fresh batch of them, and noticed that they have their own SKU and UPC, and anyone can simply ask their local Best Buy if they have SKU 8493838 in stock. He also notes that they should have a seperate price tag denoting the HDMIness of the console for easy pick'ns. That should assist any of you looking to get your hands on one.
[Thanks, Zathu]

Funk this..if I was in need of another 360, i'd Elite it up.
XxURDONExX @ Aug 14th 2007 9:47AM
So let me get this straight. When I take my 360 to Best Buy with my extended warranty because it keeps locking up , can I replace it with an HDMI premium?
edhe @ Aug 14th 2007 9:57AM
I'd expect so, it's a 360 isn't it, and no price difference...
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 14th 2007 10:04AM
I dont have an HD tv(usually hooked it up to my computer moniter to play gears in HD) yet why didnt they just release a new chip with the a heat sink. is that super 360 thing true will they put a HD player in to the 360 after the new chips. idk if its true i heard about it on qj.net but it doesnt meen there switching formats so dont worry. if its true ill wait till that comes out to buy another 360 im tired of down time sending it back to MS even waiting another 6 months after halo3 to get a more reliable system ill do it. this kind of opens my wallet up for more PS3 games. I pre ordered halo3 already so when i get a new 360 it will be there waiting and my brother will play co op with me in college.

@URDONE
Because the new HDMI Premium 360s have a different SKU, they're not covered by the extended warranty. But you might be able to "trade in" your old 360 and warranty which, with 50 dollars extra, will get you an Elite. At least, that's what I did, figuring I'd spend just as much on the Microsoft official HDMI cable if I waited to get the new Premium HDMI models. The only down side is that the warranty for the Elite is like 80 bucks, so I'll let Microsoft handle any potential problems with my Elite.

Please tell me you're like 6 years old, because there's no excuse for a post like that from anyone older than that.

Has anyone actually seen the HDMI-equipped SKUs on the East Coast? I went hunting for them on Sunday in Central NJ, and not only were the consoles lacking HDMI, but they were made between June 2006 and Nov. 2006.
dunnypop @ Aug 14th 2007 11:19AM
why get a microsoft cable when you can order hdmi cables from monoprice for less than $10.
The quality of their cables are higher quality than crappy monster cables.

Thanks Gene. My BB extended warranty is expiring soon, so I am thinking that I might just turn it in and hope for the best! At the very least I could sell the brand new 360 premium and then get something else. *Fingers crossed* I have not had any problems with my 360 and it is one from launch day. So I don't know if I should trade it in or not.
Ogden2k @ Aug 14th 2007 1:06PM
I would think you can get the HDMI version from Best Buy, because eventually the non-HDMI versions will not exist, what happens then?
andyj @ Aug 14th 2007 1:25PM
Well I just called my local BB and they said that is not a valid SKU.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 14th 2007 1:31PM
sorry? they called it 360 ultimate is that bwetter im so sowwy dat i souwnded like a 6 yeawr owld. whats wrong with waiting on a more reliable system and i rather play co op online with my bwrother rather than anyone else. yeah but your right i often proof read after i add my comment it depends on the topic and on what people have said if theres a bull in the room who is just bashing everything no matter what the facts are i go on a rant not really knowing what im saying half the time. but if its a topic i care about you can definetly see the difference in quality of my writting maybe an extra letter here and there but its good none the less. i like the 360 but i for one dont respect MS in anyway i think thats a major part of 360 bashing. i dont exactly know where they stand, pushing the core(affordable next gen gaming) this far then phasing it out forcing people to buy HDD when they said games wouldnt need them (you already know all the other problems by now) the games they had last year was because they came out first. do you realize most of those games second installments will be on the PS3 except for GoW2. i wish MS and Sony had one system that provided all the next gen games. right now im sticking with the PC and PS3. like i said i cant stand the downtime i have to deal with.

Fry's Electronics has plenty of them in Downers Grove, IL. They have a whole section that says "360 Premium w/HDMI". $349. Bam.
Zathu @ Aug 14th 2007 3:38PM
@GENE:
If someone had a PRP (Best Buy Warranty) on any 360 and the store qualified it for a replacement (proved it defective), then it would be replaced by the most comparable SKU. If the HDMI SKU is the only one in stock or just happens to be the one the store associate grabs, then so be it.. the store will likely exchange it for the HDMI SKU.
It may also be worth noting that the UPC code is different, the specific number is 882224380751. Of course if you're already looking at the box, its easier just to look on the side to see if it lists HDMI under the features.

#3: Do not expect BB to give you an HDMI 360 if you take your non HDMI unit in for product replacement. BB, somehow has an 'arrangement' with M$ to sell really old stock.
My first 360 from BB was May 2006 and the manufacture date was Dec 2005 (how did they still have launch boxes?!) A few months later I had to exchange again and the replacement box was also Dec 2005 manufacture date. A few months ago (June 2007) I exchanged yet again and the manufacture date is Jan 2006.
Bottom line is BB will have plenty of old 360s to replace your 360 with for at least another year or 2.

@Zathu
Of course, that was my original plan. My 360 red ringed during the opening cinematic of the Bioshock demo. I called up to see if they had any of the HDMI Premiums in stock at BB before I went to exchange my console under the warranty (I did try all of the remedies, Microsoft recommended and otherwise to get mine in working order but to no avail). Turns out they were weren't putting the HDMI Premiums out until Sept 9th or the remaining stock of older Premiums sold out. That is probably the case at a lot of stores, and upgrading just seemed like a better deal than a)wasting the warranty I purchased through Best Buy or b)waiting for Microsoft to perhaps fix the problem with my console after a matter of weeks.

Let me tell you my situation. My system (build date 12-12-05,it served me well) just died yesterday giving me the RROD. I have the PRP but the Best Buy I work at has 2 premium systems left and I guess corporate instructed the employees not to sell the new sku until the old ones are gone. I work outside out on the field so I didn't hear about it. I couldn't get any of the managers to budge on the lame rule. My manager said to wait it out a day till they sell the old ones or exchange it for the elite. I want my saved games so I'm going to wait. BTW the SKU is 8492838
Jeramy @ Aug 14th 2007 7:53PM
@Loban
even six-year-olds have heard of a period. can you say run-on?
Ogden2k @ Aug 14th 2007 10:57PM
I talked to my local BB today and asked about the PRP and if they'd cover it on any Xbox Premium SKU, they said they would as it's a Product Replacement Plan, not a SKU replacement plan.
Andrew @ Aug 15th 2007 3:57PM
My xbox died yesterday and went to bestbuy today and just nicely asked the girl to find me an HDMI one. I supplied the UPC but they didn't have it in the system. Luckily she walked up and said she only found the HDMI one. So i got 50 bux back and bought a new protection plan and now i have HDMI goodness to my tv.
