Katamari demo rolls up (get it?!) Marketplace
Beautiful Katamari's demo just landed on Marketplace and has been rolling up a storm. At first, it was available on a recent OXM demo disc, but now it is available for the whole world Canada, America, and Mexico (read: North America) to download. It weighs in at just under 435 MB, so it's not going to break the disk space bank, although X3F reader Magic Whiskey tells us that it's also on the short side, but enough to get the premise of the game. Give it a download and tell us what you think.

Pretty hard to play this on a next gen console.
Toph @ Aug 14th 2007 10:18AM
NOoooo..it's not HARD to play on a 'current-gen' console, but it'd be hard to BUY at current-gen pricing.
I'd hope the game retails for $30 or less. None of the other Katamari Damacy games retailed at full price; Katamari Damacy (ps2) was $19.99, Everyone Loves Katamari (ps2) was $39.99, and I (heart) Katamari for the PSP was $40 as well, I think.
$29.99 Beautiful Katamari pricing FTW!
By the way, everyone should try this game. It's a welcome switch and palate cleansing game from the more heavy, mature titles out there. It's not something to have to think hard about, or something to stress over much..it's a great franchise that offers really nicely made games you play 'between' other games.

I hope it is cheap. I mean, the actual 3D graphics are completely unchanged. They look a lot cleaner in HD (and all the 2D art looks great), but it's so trapped in "last generation" otherwise that I hope it remains cheap.
I feel like We Love Katamari might have actually been $29.99.
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 14th 2007 10:51AM
Yeah, I think you're right Tony.

I buy it in a second for $29.99.
$39.99 if there just isnt anything else to play for months.
Not $49.99 and if I see it for $59.99 I'm likely to punch somebody.
Loved it for PS2.

And again Europe gets nothing. :/

Yes, We love Katamari came out retailing for 29.99
I thought it was a shitty thing for namco to do at the time considering the First game was 19.99 and just because the game had some success they uped the price 10 bucks for a sequal that was basically the same as the last installment.
I especially love how the creater of Katamari rips on other game developers b4 the first Katamari came out. For what U wonder? For not being original and sticking with what they know works, and then he goes out and makes the same game 3 times. I like Katamari but that guy really put his foot in his mouth.
Tony @ Aug 14th 2007 12:54PM
The original developer actually hasn't been involved with the series since the second one. Namco has assigned other people to it, so I'd blame the company more.
The original guy left to make parks, but now apparently he's working on some weird PS3 game.

They forgot about Europe again!
Never mind the legal rubbish, just splurt it out to Europe as well!

Beautiful katamari is one stupid game

Were the controls somewhat wonky for anyone else? I couldn't get the camera to stay behind the katamari for the life of me. Also, 3 minutes? 400mb for a 3 minute demo? Give me a break. All in all, with the added screen real estate of the 360, Katamari feels a whole lot more fleshed out. The town(s) seem a WHOLE lot more real and alive than they did in the PS2/PSP games. Is this a good thing, or have they ruined Katamari's magic? Only time will tell. I'm buying this game for sure though

Well, it was a fun diversion I suppose. It's difficult to validate such a demo though in the midst of excellent, legitimately enthralling ones like Stranglehold, Bioshock and Eternal Sonata popping up on the Marketplace recently. I couldn't help but feel a bit empty inside when the three minute limit had run its course and I realized that there was nothing more to be done.

I thought it was great. Funny, colorful, oddly compelling. Can't quite get to 5m yet, but persons on the internets tell me that it's possible.
