Rumored Halo 3 Epsilon details

Our friends at Xbox-Scene have received some new details on Halo 3 Epsilon, which was spotted on several gamercards last week. According to an anonymous tipster has informed Xbox-Scene that Halo 3 Epsilon is a downloadable version of Halo 3 with lots of gameplay options. Think of it as the Halo 3 Beta Plus. Epsilon gives you access to multiplayer fun on six maps including Snowbound, High Ground, Valhalla, Last Resort, Epitaph, and Sandtrap. In addition, players get access to custom games and the ability to fully edit game variants. Not only that, but Forge is also available, where players can edit and save map variants. Players can also enjoy four player co-op in a single level of Halo 3's campaign. Finally, the fully functional Saved Films feature is also available, allowing players to save and edit films from all available play modes including Forge.
All in all, it's sounds like a pretty sweet deal for those lucky enough to get in on it. We've been checking our inbox obsessively without any luck. We'd ask the lucky bastards playing it to tell us about it, but they're probably sworn to secrecy on pain of death.
[Thanks to everyone that sent this in]

Somebody should check out why this isn't on the frontpage, it only showed up in my RSS reader.
Anyways, sounds pretty sweet, but at this point I'd rather wait for the full experience.

Oops, time warp. Fixed.

How did these bastards get in on this?
darkstar @ Aug 15th 2007 1:43AM
A while ago bungie said that the beta players might get something for the experiance....anyone thinking that we mite get some of this epsilon.
jsut a idea :)?

Well, considering that folks like Major Nelson are playing it, odds are that normal muggles like us just aren't high enough up the chain to rate such Halo majesty.
As much as my internal soul is pacing back and forth, wearing a hole in the carpet that is my mind, I can continue to wait for the full retail version of Halo 3. I fear I know too much about the campaign as it is- (Richard, I too read the EGM Sept issue that's on shelves now.)
I just have to keep frosty on the weaponset, which I think I am, and I know I'll get a chance to pwn nicely.
Until 9/25, I'll continue to mutter quietly to myself 'Snowbound shotty, Snowbound shotty'...

Ummm? what happens if the people that get in dont like it for some strange reason what would they do? delay the game till 08? just asking im kinda glad to know there are devs out there that take there games and what people think about there games to heart. so instead releasing a crappy game and find out what people think after they ask what people want before the final build, its kind of like zone of the enders 2nd runner. its kinda gives you the feeling that you were apart of the development of the game making it the best they can.

"'Snowbound shotty, Snowbound shotty'..."
Snowbound shotty + shield doors + tunnels = copious death
:)
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 14th 2007 4:29PM
Richard, that is why you fail. :)
Once I get my shotty, I stay up topside, scout the perimeter, and flank snipers, shotgunning them at point blank range. Nothing finer!

It's so scary up there, though! Nowhere to hide...

A friend of mine is an enterprise manager at MS. He claims that this is mostly in house people, employees, friends of the dev team, along with some lucky few that got access (probably through employees). Sounds like an in house "beta" test for the final build. I doubt we will see it. But here's crossing our fingers for a demo?
Patrick @ Aug 14th 2007 5:47PM
i think it is another halo project project, because translated epsilon is 5 in greek, and since the three fps halos and rts make four games a new one would make number 5
zackiyp @ Aug 14th 2007 5:51PM
Patrick, no. Not at all.

Wow, two of the same comments. I am a douche.
DemonG @ Aug 14th 2007 8:49PM
Yet, both should stay, just to exemplify his idiocy? Yes.
I mean... it just said that they've confirmed it as In-house final build type thing.
Speaking of which... should Halo 3 be going Gold soon?
DemonG @ Aug 14th 2007 8:50PM
Just updating my password keeper on my new comp...
excuse me for but a moment...
zackiyp @ Aug 14th 2007 8:55PM
Yes, you're right, I am an idiot because the site didn't show my original comment until I submitted it a second time.
Patrick is the idiot here. The article above says what Halo 3 Epsilon is, yet Patrick comes in here without reading it saying "I THINK ITZ A NEW PROJEKT!!"
DeadConcious @ Aug 14th 2007 9:26PM
Patrick, your logic is kinda off. Epsilon is a Greek letter, not number. Do you spell with numbers(not counting 1337 or binary)?
BananaBoat @ Aug 14th 2007 9:58PM
Why must bungie constantly screw with us? Give us access to Epsilon, and we'd still buy your game, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Adam @ Aug 14th 2007 10:33PM
Wow, just because people are playing some H3 goodness a little early doesn't make them bastards. Cut them some slack guys! LOL I'm so stoked for this I can't freaking wait, I'm going tomorrow and gonna try to get a copy of that EGM mag with all the hot H3 goodness in it.
MDJ2010 @ Aug 15th 2007 7:51AM
Im so pleased that the beta is proving not to be the only public tests Bungie are running on Halo 3. If the Epsilon tests means one thing gets changed for the better then great. The level of expectation on this game is phenomenal and Bungie seem to be looking for perfection.
