Fall Dash Update leaked, includes Xvid support?

As the days mercilessly edge towards Autumn (here in the northern hemisphere anyway), it's high time we started seeing some rumors about the contents of the Xbox 360's Fall Dash Update. Lo and behold, just such a thing is currently making the rounds on the internetz. Stemming from an apparent leak, which has now found its way to the Xbox.com forums, the list of improvements to the dash is very long and positively packed with new additions. Chief among these is the inclusion of Xvid support. Given that Xvid essentially gives people a way to avoid Video Marketplace altogether (ask your 1337 h4xx0r friends), its inclusion makes the entire list suspect.

Still, other features like a new XBLA blade that better explains the service (good idea, guys), IPTV, and clan support all sound like logical, timely editions. Then again, Major Nelson told us months ago that there were no plans to integrate clan support into the 360 itself, so be sure to take the list for what it is: a rumor. The one thing that makes the whole list fishy is that Xbox 360 already has Chatpad support with MSN and everything. That was added in the Spring update months ago.

This list does seem too good to be true. I meanb, clan support, xvid, and a new blade all at once? Seems a bit much. I can't see MS offering xvid support while the XLVM is raking in cash.

I dont get how the Xbox is supposed to work as a DVR for TV. Unless the update magically grows a coax jack on the back or I start getting streaming cable TV via the internetz there isnt a way to feed a television signal through the Xbox.

Is there?

I suppose I could use it to grab shows off of my Tivo via wireless but that is hardly an amazing nor particularly useful task to accomplish.

I probably won't be the first to respond to your comment about the DVR functionality of the Xbizzle but yes TV will be sent over the internetz. IPTV is Internet Protocal TV basically meaning TV over the Internet. Microsoft has been testing it in a couple of markets in the US and overseas. Hasn't hit mass distribution because cable companies have too much vested in the traditional cable delivery. However expect to see Mirosoft's investment in Comcast to play a key part in this

so would anyone pay an additional 50$ a month on your cable bill to rent a 360 from comcast if it was your cable box?

Nice list, hope the majority of it is true... but thanks to the magic of TVersity, I don't have to care if the Fall Update supports Xvid.

fuck no i wouldn't. If i can pay $50 less per month to have a seperate box from my 360 to watch tv on...i'll do that...my 360's for watching movies and gaming not watching tv. fuck that shit.

native xvid would be nice. as transcoding can lead to some ugly stuttering. I use transcode360 myself, didn't like tversity. from what I've heard IPTV is only going to be possible on fios. which isn't exactly widely available or cost effective right now.

@4: Just like Volclark said, IPTV is streaming tv over the internet. Your 360 will act like a digital tv/satellite receiver with PVR funcionality.

hopefully they add a support inwhich you want to invite people to a game, they can indicate if that person has the game or not.

I hate sending invites to people multiple times, each time finding out they don't have the game. LOL

Didnt you hear the pocast last night apparently any more then 1 person cross game chat takes up to many resources and they would have to cut somthing.

I doubt this is true at all, but one thing caught my attention: sound for themes. I was wondering why that wasn't available. It'd be cool to hear some Halo related sound effect if I have a Halo theme applied or whatever else.

Yes, FiOs is not widely availible. But in the markets it is availible, it's like the holy grail of internet connections. It's really not that expensive when you consider the speeds your getting. I'm talking 40M down/15M up in some markets for under $200 a month. You could pretty much run a large wireless network in your neighborhood and have people rent out the bandwidth and you'd be getting it for free.
