In their review of
Tiger Woods 08, TeamXbox discovered a
troublesome bug that caused the game to freeze between the second and third hole. The bug pretty much locks up the player's console forcing them to complete a good old fashioned reboot. So, the TeamXbox gang contacted EA to get some insight into the bug problem and EA confirmed that they knew about it and already created a patch which is currently sitting with Microsoft certification. And until the patch passes through certification and gets rolled out, EA advises
Tiger Woods 08 players to "hold down the A button while launching the game from the dashboard" to prevent such bug from making an unwelcome appearance. Next time Tiger will be getting a flea and tick shampoo before he makes it to store shelves.

Two letters. EA.
zackiyp @ Aug 29th 2007 2:57PM
Well good thing the only people that buy these games are fucking idiots.
BananaBoat @ Aug 29th 2007 3:18PM
Tiger Woods is the premiere golf game out there (sim anyway, I'd say Mario Golf is way more fun) but to ship a game knowing full well that there was a show stopping bug....that just kinda shows why people think of EA as the evil empire of video games. Gabe Newell, take notes dude.
lysernix @ Aug 29th 2007 3:26PM
Wow. Strange workaround? What the heck does that do? I'm unfamiliar with the game but it sounds like you could launch the game, and concievably never encounter the bug so long as you steered clear of the "Henrietta Brockway event in the Tiger Challenge"... so... what in the hell does this "hold down A" whilst launching do? If you do the trick, then go to said part... it works fine no problems? What the hell!?
Bravo6 @ Aug 29th 2007 3:38PM
EA Bugs. It's in the game.
Drunkenshaolin @ Aug 29th 2007 3:39PM
EA you pile of money grabbing, none testing shi?s
o1eyedwilly @ Aug 29th 2007 3:57PM
So EA knew about this bug before they shipped out the game!!! What a rip off
Philip @ Aug 29th 2007 4:00PM
Wow, zackiyp, I'm playing this game right now, while I put off my Graduate work. How close are you to getting that reputation of Exalted in WoW again?
STEVE @ Aug 29th 2007 4:10PM
ZACIYP
Wow so you were able to tell what kind of people buy tigerwoods huh. We are all fucking idiots??? Well zacy obviously we can tell what kind of person you are by making that comment
"you're a fucking asshole"
BananaBoat @ Aug 29th 2007 4:13PM
If you hold A while booting, that clears the cache I think. I think I remember doing that to clear the cache in Oblivion (when the cache got full, Oblivion would slow to a crawl, so you had to hold down a button to clear it. It might have been A)
Computer and console games now have a policy of "Ship now, kill bugs later" and it's becoming increasingly obvious that it's just not working.
As far as BioShock goes, they say the widescreen wasn't a bug, but a feature they knew about (they had increased the field of view for 4:3 over the original 16:9, so you weren't losing anything in 16:9 mode over what they originally intended) but for some reason, playing the demo (even before it became known about the "Bug") I felt that it seemed a little bit extremely zoomed in. Meh, I just don't know anymore
TRUTH @ Aug 29th 2007 4:14PM
Thanks Again EA!!!
*Sheraz* Glad to hear you know what your talking about!! Dummy
zackiyp @ Aug 29th 2007 4:42PM
Lawlz. EA Sports games are shit, always the same, and a complete waste of 60 bucks. There, I said it.
bill.pirkle @ Aug 29th 2007 5:00PM
Also a bad bug in which the x button does not work and you cannot move your aiming curser. Reboot needed for that too.
JZ @ Aug 29th 2007 5:56PM
Wow what a surprise, an EA game with bugs? NO WAY!
DarkTravesty @ Aug 29th 2007 6:41PM
typical ea game full of problems
massive_98 @ Aug 29th 2007 7:57PM
Sorry to be posting on your site but does this happen in the PS3 version too?
I can't say I am a big fan of EA, but they still have some quality titles like MERCS2 and Skate.
Mattt Dargis @ Aug 29th 2007 9:52PM
Wow, EA ships a game w/ a bug so easy to find a reviewer finds it right off the bat.
Who's testing these games?
Jared @ Aug 30th 2007 12:20AM
I didn't have one hiccup at all.
Now the interface and menus are a different story...

I played the Henrietta event in the Tiger Challenges last night. My console did not freeze at all. I stink at the game so I got bronze the first time I went back to replay it and got silver with no issues whatsoever. I have a 360 Elite. Could it be that the devs boxes did not have this issue, could it be that only some consoles maybe with hard drives that are nearly full will have this problem? (I have over 93 gigs of free space on mine) Some one else already posted that they think that holding the A button down will clear the disc cache, so it kind of makes sense.
Creating a complex game like any new game will always have something wrong with it. It's just the way it is. At least we have a very good method for getting patches that we don't have to go out of our way to get.
I personally really like this game and Pretty much any sports game will have it's share of problems because these companies are on a tight schedule to release a new title every single year.
Brian Ebert @ Aug 30th 2007 9:03PM
I thought this game was pretty great. I was having a ball yesterday until it froze up and I kept getting a partial red-ring between the 2nd and 3rd holes. I thought my box was finally giving up on me. I'm glad it's just a bug...
Erich @ Sep 1st 2007 2:42PM
I too have an Elite (newly purchased)
and have had the freeze up. Ive tried the 'hold A' thing and it STILL freezes up for me.
Ugh
Sheraz @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:16PM
Like Xbox 360 HARDWARE bugs weren't enough.
Add this to the Bioshock Widescreen issue.
CQUIKSTER @ Sep 3rd 2007 6:08PM
Im wondering about the owners of '08 that dont have an Xbox Live account. EA should give a credit of some sort to compensate releasing the game to the consumer. R&D and Beta testing assholes at EA.
MuddyDog @ Sep 3rd 2007 9:28PM
The lock up happens in two places in the Tiger Challenge. The hex about Chris Dimarco is "Henrietta Brockway event in the Tiger Challenge" and is played at Carnoustie course. Well, the hex leading to Vijah Singh also locks up the Tiger Challenge and is also played at Carnoustie course. This bug up effectively shuts you out of half of the Tiger Challenge. That sucks, but word on the street is a patch is coming...
m1llert1me67 @ Sep 6th 2007 1:10PM
I too have an Elite and it freezes on me. The "hold A " does nothing. Still locks up.
Word has it this doesn't happen on the PS3.
Bud @ Oct 16th 2007 8:11PM
Anyone know if this patch has been published?
