Marvel Vs. Capcom on XBLA? Marvel hopes so

Speaking to Gamasutra, Marvel vice president of interactive media Justin Lambros intimated that he would like to see classic Marvel fighting games hit game download services like Xbox Live Arcade. Producing games like X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Superheroes and massive fighting mashups like X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Vs. Capcom, fighting fans have fond memories of the collaboration between Capcom and Marvel. When asked about the possibility of such games hitting a service like XBLA, Lambros said, "Yeah, those are among my all time favorites. I'm a huge 2D fighting fan... the Marvel Vs. Capcom stuff has a definite close place in my heart, so we definitely wanna see that stuff live on." It seems that there aren't any firm plans to bring back any specific titles, so don't get your hopes up just yet.
Still, if Puzzle Fighter and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix make an impact on XBLA, maybe we'll see the same kind of attention paid to the Marvel classics.

The current size alotment is too small for developers to put a game like MVC in there, but I bet its gonna get increased soon, it has to, there is no way 150 meg is gonna fit the already announced Quake 3. But hell yes bring these games to me Capcom. And you know, with these will mean the comming of the King Of Fighters. Lets just see how well Fatal Fury Special sells. Supports it and show these guys we want these kind of games and they will.
Magic Whiskey @ Sep 4th 2007 4:51PM
If these Marvel gems hit XBLA, then all bets are off and there is no contest: Microsoft pwns, and the Arcade is truly an arcade. Now we just need a better controller for fighters, or at least a better D-pad. Microsoft actually does listen to the community, so I expect them to come through with that sometime soon.

#1 king of fighters and fatal fury is trash compaired to mvc2 nothing made to this day can compete with mvc2 Capcom rerelease the mvc2 on xbox360 coded for x360 not the xbox1 the port is so messed up its not worth playing so recode it sell it at 19.99 and make millions of dollars off a game you released along time ago please capcom get off your a$$ and make the damn thing i promise you it will go platnium
Tony @ Sep 4th 2007 4:56PM
MvC2 could fit within 150 MBs if they severely compressed it... but that's how it stands now. Once they add new menus, whatever updates and online components I just don't see how they could fit it in there easily by normal standards.
Really, given the new memory card is 512 MBs, I wish they'd put the limit up to like 300MBs or so.
skunkworks @ Sep 4th 2007 4:59PM
the VF5 stick looks like it just might fit the bill for these 2d fighters on xbla.
MvC2 is one of may favs but I really wanna see SF3 SFA3 and some form of Capcom vs SNK on live arcade
johnathonn @ Sep 4th 2007 5:08PM
ok....
here's the list of fighters that BETTER come to XBLA
Super Gem Fighter[very unlikely to happen as i dont think this game was popular in US...or Japan for that manner)
MvC 1 and/or 2
Ehrgeiz
SFA3 [the only one worth bring in the alpha series]
and lastly but not least PRIMAL RAGE.
VOS @ Sep 4th 2007 5:06PM
Add this one (best one) http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8634 and give us a wireless arcade stick.
Boff @ Sep 4th 2007 5:07PM
2 words.
Yes please!
blamecanada @ Sep 4th 2007 5:12PM
You know my friend just bought Marvel vs Capcom for the original Xbox for like 70 bucks used.
Kunikos @ Sep 5th 2007 10:11AM
I kinda like the original MvC better than MvC2.
andy @ Sep 4th 2007 5:38PM
It would be nice if they fixed the backward compatibility issues they have with MvC2 first. I love playing that game but as it stands right now the artifacting on the characters is so bad the game is unplayable. Feel bad for anyone buying a copy online right now for $100 thinking it will work for 360.
BlackBeltJones @ Sep 4th 2007 5:40PM
I've seen the internet arguments of Capcom vs. Konami, but I think Capcom pulls ahead just for this game (I'm sorry Snake).
quesadia @ Sep 4th 2007 6:28PM
OH EM GEE THATS A MUST GET FOR EVERYONE
spambot @ Sep 4th 2007 6:21PM
If they do it, I'm hoping they go with an HD remix, and not just a rehash.
dancingtosirens @ Sep 4th 2007 7:13PM
I own the original 2 for dreamcast,
but these would be must buys for just about everyone else.
Extremely good games

That is a complete opinion. While I love MVC2, It is far from the best out there. The game dosn't even run on Capcoms cps3 engine Like Street Fighter 3/Vampire Savior and jo Jo's Bizzar Adventure. Not to mention that Guilty Gear X the series completly destroys MVC in terms of 2d quality. Now that we have established how animation wise it is lacking lets talk game play.
MVC2 is a fun fun game. But in terms of skill it is about worthless and full of more Tick damage than you can shake a stick at. If a player selects Cable/juggernaught/war machine and knows what they are doing guess what, block 1 time and you can kiss that character goodbye, dont block and die that much faster. Dont get me wrong but speaking just about the skill level of MVC2 it is a scrubs game compared to the others.
Cabal @ Sep 4th 2007 8:24PM
@1 MVC2 for Dreamcast was only 164MB, so they could easily compress that slightly to fit the 150MB for XBLA.
RazorElite @ Sep 4th 2007 8:38PM
Actually, the ISO for Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for the original Xbox is around 150mb. This game is very small. It would easily fit on XBLA as it is.
Mr_Saturn @ Sep 4th 2007 9:48PM
if MvC2 gets placed on XBLA i should hope it gets a lot of balance tweaks, because i do not want to fight the same team every time (Cable, storm and iceman)
MvC1 didn't suffer from balance issues though so a straight port would be fine.
Dapper Dan @ Sep 4th 2007 10:03PM
@ johnathonn
good call on ergheiz!
also as i stated on joystiq earlier, this is easily worth $100+ to me. i absolutely love this game and the 2nd one.
Robert Daily @ Sep 4th 2007 10:45PM
X-Men Children of the Atom.. FTW!!!
Master H @ Sep 4th 2007 11:02PM
Finally this games are one of my favorites but MVC is the best i hope they put MVC2 :)
A.J. @ Sep 4th 2007 11:52PM
All I can say is:
"I'm the Juggernaut, BITCH!"
MDJ2010 @ Sep 5th 2007 5:27AM
I think by the end of next year xbla could be the 360's biggest selling point with the quality of games that keep coming up.
Gemini Ace @ Sep 5th 2007 7:10PM
What do we have to do to make this happen? The fanboys need to mobilize on this one immediately. Make it so, Capcom!
Dave @ Sep 5th 2007 11:57AM
For anyone who owned MVC2 on Dreamcast like myself, you KNOW that was the best fighting game of all time and a perfect arcade translation. Let's pray that they bring it to the 360. (Online battles :) )
Scullinator @ Sep 5th 2007 1:33PM
Where is all the outrage over this game not working right on the 360? I need some outraged people who will write to microsoft and demand a fix.
James @ Sep 5th 2007 2:36PM
CotA was one of my favorites in the arcade growing up -- lost a lot of quarters there.
To the Dreamcast owners: it would be worth re-buying for Live play.
This also highlights an issue I've been pissed about for a while -- the MS monopoly on their wireless protocol. Seriously, what gives? Unless I'm mistaken, you can only buy wired 3rd-party controllers, and MS hasn't exactly been wowing us with innovation on the wireless front: black, blue, and pink, with exactly the same buttons and sticks. Awesome.
I got Puzzle Fighter for my wife, which is her favorite console game of all time, but she barely plays it because the D-Pad on the MS controllers sucks so very, very bad. I'm probably going to wind up buying her a 3rd-party wired controller, but I'm not happy about the tether -- and the wireless controller *I'm* stuck using when we play together is still going to have a shitty d-pad, which means I'll still be unable to really do well in fighting games (like MvC or CotA)...
