$299 Premium 360s at Office Depot
After digging through our inbox today we stumbled across a tip from shenlong77 who sent us an Office Depot leaked adscan (or one that is readily available to everyone, but advertises deals that start September 9th) and it features a pretty sweet Xbox 360 console deal. According to the ad, this Sunday online at OfficeDepot.com they will be offering Premium Xbox 360s for only $299 after a $50 rebate. And for the sake of us being a little curious we hopped on over to their online store and looked up an Xbox 360 Premium to see if the deal was in effect right now and we're sad to say that not only are the Premiums not $299, but they are actually trying to sell them for $369! Ouchers. But hopefully our ad is right and this Sunday brings $299 Xbox 360s, money savings and world peace.[Thanks, shenlong77]

WTF is Office Depot doing selling consoles? Seriously????
Eddie @ Sep 7th 2007 7:36PM
They're probably just trying to liquidate their now obsolete stock of non HDMI prems.
Make sure you're not buying a new premium for HDMI without checking it first!
FM @ Sep 7th 2007 6:38PM
Sounds very tempting. With or without HDMI?

Wowsa, I'm probably going to pick one of these up if it turns out to be true. I was going to get my g/f a core for her birthday (28th) but if this is only 20 bucks more then I'll def. spring for it even tho I already have an extra hard drive.
On another note, I got the Halo wireless controller and headset today and the headset seems to work pretty good (better than the original), but the controller is a different story.
The controller seems a bit light, I weighed it and my scale said it was 1/4 oz lighter, but it was enough that I could tell, but it's not that big of a deal. The D-pad seems to actually be worse tho as I have to push down pretty hard for up and down to actually register...I'm hoping this is just something that needs to be worked in, but I dunno.

I would go for the HDMI ones with the revised heatsink.

I saw the Halo Xbox 360s in the Target backroom today at work. Pretty cool.

Technically the consoles would be priced @ 369.00 because the ads says $299 after a $50 dollar rebate
handsomety @ Sep 8th 2007 12:47PM

That $279 is a refurb. So not only do you not get HDMI or heatsink, it's used. Yeah, nice deal.
Tim @ Sep 8th 2007 10:38PM
Meh, I already got my $360 for $300 still when they retailed at $400 :P

The deal is a sham. I live in the Buffalo, NY area and I just came back from an Office Depot. Apparently there's something wrong with the software that Office Depot uses to order the 360s, so any attempt to buy the 360 and have it delivered results in an error message. So basically no one can buy this "deal" until they fix the problem.

I just purchased one at Office Depot. It seems to work fine. The clerk did have to enter the info by had instead of the scanner, for some reason. They even had free ground shipping. The funny thing is 2nd day shipping was $1000.00, just to be clear one thousand dollars for 2nd day shipping. The clerk still asked if I want the free shipping or the $1K shipping. I told her the free shipping would ge good.
Ray P @ Sep 9th 2007 4:07PM
I'm glad it worked for you. Hopefully by tomorrow my area store will have it all worked out.
craig @ Sep 9th 2007 4:13PM
Sorry to post again, but I thought everyone would like to know my order conformation form clearly says this is the Xbox 360 platinum system with 20gb hard drive and HDMI.
irobotudead @ Sep 9th 2007 7:13PM
I had an experience similar to Ray's this morning.
I showed up at my Office Depot (in Arlington, Virginia) at around 10am, when they open. I grabbed a Sunday circular, and asked for assistance in configuring my Xbox360 package (the one with HDMI and 20GB HD + 1 wireless controller = $349.99). The configuration process was simple and straightforward, and the clerk made sure to present me with the order form (order information and barcode for the checkout clerk), as well as the rebate in the amount of $50.
The checkout process, however, was not as easy.
The barcode kept giving the clerks wrong SKU #'s (or something, they weren't very clear in explaining the problem to me). After about a half an hour in the store, one of the clerks tried calling other stores (and higher-up management) to get an answer/solution. About an hour after entering the store, the clerk who was on the phone informed me that all the stores in my area were experiencing this same problem.
Now, unfortunately for me, the order is valid only for 24 hours (after which I will need to re-create the console configuration), and I am unable to do this online or over the phone. The clerk asked me for my phone/contact information so she could call me when the problem was sorted out, but at the time of closing, I have not received a call or email.
I won't be able to stop by their store again until Monday evening, so I'm hoping things will be sorted out by then.
Ray, please let us know how things go!
Thanks

I went back to the store today and I'm proud to say that it worked. There was still some trouble with the system, but after a few tries, the order was able to be put through. Like the people above, my Xbox comes with the HDMI and wireless controller. It also had the $50 rebate which brought the cost down to $299 (not including tax). Furthermore, it was free 3 day shipping. Even though it was somewhat of an ordeal, it was still worth it in the end.
Oh, oddly enough, I'm still the only person in the Buffalo, NY area to even ask about the deal. I guess its because not many people expect Office Depot to sell 360s.
irobotudead @ Sep 10th 2007 7:21PM
I, again, had an experience similar to Ray's today when I stopped by another Office Depot in my area to pick up the 360 bundle.
At first, the system appeared to have the same problem as it did before (wrong SKU #, inability to process payment). But after over 2 hours of waiting, it turned out all it took was another try.
Basically re-printing the configuration order form produced a different SKU number that allowed the transaction to go through.
I suggest to anyone experiencing the same problems as Ray and myself, try re-configuring/re-printing your xbox360 order and keep trying to scan the order forms. Eventually it will work itself out.
Glad to hear you got yours Ray!
BTW, I would also like to point out that, like Ray, I was the only person to ask about the xbox360 deal at both store locations. This also leads me to believe that a simple re-printing or re-configuration will eventually get you through the second time around. Hope this info helps!

Has anyone tried to add the $95 add on of and extra controller and madden 08? does that change the rebate or the shipping or anything? How much did you have to pay upfront in the store? 349.99, or 369.99 like the article says?
ccampbell2 @ Sep 10th 2007 9:26PM
I'm interested in this offer..as long as it's a HDMI unit. Office Depot is able to confirm that this unit has HDMI??
sickyd @ Sep 11th 2007 12:12AM
I just went and bought it, and right on the receipt it says 360 premium with HDMI.
Ray P @ Sep 10th 2007 11:18PM
I paid $349.99 up front not including tax, and then was given a $50 dollar rebate form. The $369 price was what it was before the sale (in fact, I'm pretty sure thats what its still listed on as on the Office Depot website). In order to get the sale price, you actually have to go to the physical store and order online from there. Strange, I know.
And although I just ordered my unit today, all information indicates it is an HDMI system.
ccampbell2 @ Sep 12th 2007 1:48AM
I went and purchased one too and am selling the old one. I figure a $20 loss is not bad to upgrade to HDMI and a new warranty.
Has anyone received their unit yet from Office Depot?--or been notified that it has shipped?
ghettoshark @ Sep 13th 2007 9:22PM
I just bought one today and I don't seem to be able to track it online, and like others said, the barcode didn't go through. The clerk just inputed it by hand though.
ccampbell2 @ Sep 13th 2007 9:41PM
I can't seem to track mine either--anyone had success tracking their 360?--or anyone received it yet?
irobotudead @ Sep 14th 2007 10:14AM
I ordered mine on Monday, around 5pm EST.
By going to techdepot.com, selecting "Track Your Order" from the menu on the left, and entering the "Form#" (listed under the "XBOX 360 SYSTEM" item on my receipt), I'm able to bring up a page that lists my order and its current status.
As of today, the order is still in "Pending" status, which leads me to believe they're either waiting for the delivery of the 360 system, or the copy of Bioshock which I also ordered.
I did have to print out two order forms at the store (the first one was the one that didnt scan), but I am only using the tracking number for the items on my receipt.
ghettoshark @ Sep 14th 2007 9:16PM
irobotudead, that really doesn't make any sense. My 360 which I ordered on Wednesday has already shipped and is in Hodgkins, IL now (supposed to get to Wisconsin, almost there :)) with a scheduled date of Tuesday. It's probably that their waiting for the Bioshock that you ordered.
irobotudead @ Sep 14th 2007 10:33PM
ghettoshark, i just got an email saying that my order has just been "accepted", whatever that means =\
after a quick check on the tracking page, it still has "processing" icons next to both items. now im pretty confused. the only thing thats actually changed about my order is that at the top, in red, instead of saying "Pending", it now says "Accepted".
thanks for the heads up! hopefully ill be getting mine by next week too!
sickyd @ Sep 19th 2007 1:25AM
got mine today :)
