Sorry, Crackdown sequel isn't in the the works
In an interview with develop magazine, Realtime Worlds producer Phil Wilson chats about Crackdown's growing pains, its somewhat awkward path to market, the game's image and how much they really needed the Halo 3 beta code. Wilson also goes on to talk about how they would love to make the Crackdown community grow by creating tools that'd allow players to share videos and experiences. But the most startling factoid Wilson points out is that they are not working on a Crackdown sequel and are instead focusing their efforts on two other projects, one being the cops and robbers MMO All Points Bulletin. So, sadly, no Crackdown sequel will be headed our way for the foreseeable future. All in all the interview is a good read that showcases a very honest look back at the game and the inner workings of the dev team, but darned if we wouldn't like to see what they could do with Crackdown 2. Maybe someday, just maybe ...

This is sad news, Crackdown was one of my favorite games.
Modeps @ Sep 7th 2007 2:17PM
Not only sad, but ANGRY! HULK SMASH!
Neon Jebus @ Sep 7th 2007 2:21PM
For as much as everyone hates yearly releases of titles I can't figure out why this is bad news?
So perhaps they revisit Crackdown in a few years...I'm good with that.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 7th 2007 2:33PM
APB looks hot, tho.
MARKTW @ Sep 7th 2007 2:33PM
Sad to here I was hoping for a part 2 with some better multiplayer options!
Diamondxp @ Sep 8th 2007 10:53AM
I am cool with waiting a couple of years for the next one.
DjDATZ @ Sep 7th 2007 2:54PM
I was really sad when I heard this. I was really really looking forward to playing Crackdown 2.
It was probably the game I've had the most fun with this year!
xenocidic @ Sep 7th 2007 3:04PM
That's really unfortunate, I was looking forward to Crackdown 2. Are they afraid that it won't sell well because it can't piggyback on the Halo 4 beta?
I think a lot of people were pleasantly surprised with the free game that came with their Halo 3 beta, in fact, I played it far much more than I ended up ever playing the H3 beta.
I am looking forward to APB, tho.

If they add some more DLC, that will work for me. Be nice to be able to get new stuff without having to spend $60 again. Maybe M$ should experiment with this with Crackdown. It is one of the best games on the 360.
puhssy liquors @ Sep 7th 2007 3:23PM
yay! Crackdown sucked(even though I played it thru 4 times and got 900 G). really im just glad because really, there was no story. it was basically
1) Picture and video appears telling you to kill someone
2) Go to that person's base and kill everyone with a gun, your fist, feet, or grenade.
3) Kill the boss
That game was more of a game Jack Thompson should have put a lawsuit against than any others, because it is the most-training simulator like besides the BS superhero abilities.
my point is, all you do is run around and shoot people, literally. Changing the city with a sequel wouldnt change it.
xenocidic @ Sep 7th 2007 3:31PM
@10 granted, I was hoping that crackdown 2 would have a little more depth, but i still enjoyed crackdown even though it was about as shallow as a wading pool.
just fun to sandbox around in.

Both Crackdown and Dead Rising I thought were great games with tons of potential. There was a few things I would of liked to seen added or improved on and all that got me really excited to see what the next installation would do to top the first. Guess we will never know. If not on this gen i bet both will have sequels on Microsoft's next console. These is no way Crackdown and Dead Rising are going to be passed up completely since they sold so many damn copies. so theres hope.
dunnypop @ Sep 7th 2007 3:47PM
Crackdown was only fun multiplayer.
I wished they had a 4 player version of Crackdown. then there would be no need for a sequel.
Spine @ Sep 7th 2007 4:45PM
I loved both Crackdown and Dead Rising. I even got the 7 day survivor.
I was disappointed that as soon as the beta was over, it dropped twenty dollars. I was on of those who tried to see the H3b as a added plus. I only played it 2 times. So yea.
James @ Sep 7th 2007 3:48PM
I'm hoping they come up with some new DLC, maybe sell it in a bundle with the stuff that's out now for cheap-ish... I'd sink in another ~10 bucks, but I'd have to get more than like 3 weapons and 3 cars or whatever it was -- significant new missions, at least.
The 7th Number @ Sep 7th 2007 4:16PM
Maybe the halo 3 beta thing really makes them wonder how many bought the game for the game, and not the beta. But i think it would have done really well along, as i bought it for the game, not the beta. I only played the halo 3 beta for 2 days and got bored. I played crackdown for a long time. Its a really good game, just short, and lacks a deep story.
Lharmon @ Sep 7th 2007 4:48PM
Really!? I freakin' love that game! My GF and I would play CO-OP all the time! I think it's a great game! It would have been awesome if it had 4 player! Oh well... sad times.
Boff @ Sep 7th 2007 5:38PM
Well that's a kick in the bollocks. Haven't read the article yet but I hope they didn't mean they'll NEVER do a sequel.
I came back to Crackdown about a fortnight ago to finish off some achievements and ended up getting the PDLC aswell and the amount of fun I've had is unbelievable!
While it did lack a story, I liked the open-ended nature of it.
bigtexxx @ Sep 7th 2007 6:06PM
this is not a correct statement. crackdown 2 is going to be made, but not by Realtime worlds. i pulled this off evilavatar.com:
"TrackZero points out a recent podcast in which Realtime says that Crackdown 2 is being made, but not by them. The author of the Developer Magazine article has noted this."
GazzaScotland @ Sep 7th 2007 7:07PM
Damn. Was a pretty fun game. But like a few have save I think we will get a new one down the line.
Brian @ Sep 8th 2007 12:35AM
I'm very disappointed that they aren't making Crackdown 2.
Crackdown was one of the best games for the 360. It's the most fun I've ever had in a sandbox game!
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Sep 8th 2007 4:08PM
It's weird to say Crackdown would have a sequel. Would they call it Crackdown 1?
Cause Crackdown almost wasn't a game at all. It was mostly a Parkour simulator. It was fun jumping around and all. But EVERY bit of the game that involved battling baddies or whatever felt completely tacked on.
So I'm not surprised the "writers" of the first one aren't at work on more "story".
That having been said, I had fun with it for a few days, and I'd love to see them make an actual game from the engine and world design.
Grant @ Sep 9th 2007 8:38PM
oh it's coming.
they just won't admit it until after H3 comes out and everyone finds out that it has a major cliff hanger ending and Halo 4 will exist.
and then they will ship the H4 Beta with crackdown 2 on whatever part of the disc isn't full.
mec11 @ Sep 9th 2007 10:18PM
Me I bought Crackdown b/c it was what I always wanted out of GTA and more. In a game like that I did not want a specific story, but to leap tall buildings while shooting rockets and vehicles that suction to buildings.
@5. "Sad to here I was hoping for a part 2 with some better multiplayer options!"
As others have said... why not just more DLC. So far they have demonstrated that with the latest.
xenocidic @ Sep 10th 2007 9:07AM
problem with more DLC is there's no room for more cheevos!~~~ (1250 limit already reached)
how about a crackdown 1.5 new campaign, 1000 more cheevos !!! woot !
2k8 steve @ Sep 16th 2007 2:52PM
i would of loved a crackdown 2 but apb looks like a sweet game so im not to disapointed
