On Sunday, September 23rd
Halo fanboys may have a reason to watch NASCAR (the sport in which vehicles race around in circles for hours and hours) with the announcement that a
Halo 3 themed car will make an appearance. Target and
Halo 3 are partnering up to race a special Target /
Halo 3 branded race car that'll be driven by #40 David Stremme in the September 23rd Dover 400 race. A picture of the race car can be seen above in all its
Halo 3 glory and it's more than apparent that the paint job's inspiration came from the
Halo 3 Starry Night commercial. We just hope Mr. Stremme doesn't crash next Sunday, because we aren't sure we can handle seeing Master Chief mangled and broken. God speed Stremme, god speed.

Ovals...
Fontez @ Sep 13th 2007 3:33PM
I wonder if he'll be driving with a special edition Spartan helmet...
That would be SICK !!!
iHomer @ Sep 13th 2007 3:55PM
SWEET!
Carrie @ Sep 13th 2007 4:03PM
Don't get your hopes up about seeing Master Chief emerge unscathed. Stremme is a scab.
burgerbat @ Sep 13th 2007 4:18PM
@5 Word. I was thinking the same thing. Too bad he'll be at the back the whole time, denying most a chance to look at his paint job.
Oh, and X3F, please chill on the NASCAR hate. IT'S OVALS, NOT CIRCLES. lol j burt
Eddie @ Sep 13th 2007 4:21PM
NASCAR sucks, that's public knowledge.
How about you add the Halo tie ins after you've added, oh I don't know, something interesting to watch?
And actual physical competition worthy of the deisgnation "sport" would be nice, too, but let's take it one step at a time.
Raymond @ Sep 13th 2007 4:23PM
it should be a warthog instead.
burgerbat @ Sep 13th 2007 4:40PM
I'm totally taking the bait here. Edward, you are an idiot. It's one guy, usually a kid, who has to start the NASCAR SUXORS comments, and then everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Hold on for the ride.
Eddie @ Sep 13th 2007 4:46PM
Yup.
I really want to know what the attraction is, but I'm also an A-Hole, so that was probably my only option for getting to the bottom of this little pastime.
My theory? Grass just doesn't grow (so you can't watch it do so) in parts of the country where Nascar is really popular.
Eddie's mom @ Sep 13th 2007 4:46PM
Eddie also thinks playing Halo 3 and trying on the undies in mommy's drawer are "sports" too, so his perception is a little off :)
BirdmanSTX @ Sep 13th 2007 4:50PM
Too bad they couldn't find a better driver/team to partner with. I agree with others here, it's not likely this car will be up front very much to get much TV exposure... I was thinking a partnership with the #5 (Kelloggs, to get the kiddie's more hyped on the game) or the #8 (Budweiser... I'm sure lots of beer will be consumed playing Halo3) would have been better matches, and those cars are more likely to be up front..... but I'm sure would have cost more $$$.
Eddie @ Sep 13th 2007 4:53PM
No I don't!
For the record, Madden 08 is a sport, not Halo 3, idiot.
And they were YOUR mommy's undies, that's got to count for something.
Eddie's mom @ Sep 13th 2007 5:03PM
Awww, Bless your heart! It's not like you to be embarrassed. Mommy will make it all better...
burgerbat @ Sep 13th 2007 5:07PM
Well, Edward, the appeal is this: Teams of mechanics build cars. Fast ones. They hire really good, talented people to take the wheel. Then, at top speeds around 200 mph, they drive in OVALS and sometimes, ok, like twice a season, they drive on "road" courses (These are more like what you might find in your copy of Forza). The winner is rewarded with gold and frankensense. And as far as the "physical" side of this sport: wheelmen, or "drivers", must drive a really hot car at high speeds in traffic for the better part of a day. I can hardly stand to drive for twenty minutes going 70 on the freeway in tough traffic, with air conditioning. For example: in a race earlier this year, the #70 car's A/C goes out on lap 5 of a 500 lap race. Temperature gets up to a minimum of 120 degrees in the car. So yeah, it's physical.
Eddie @ Sep 13th 2007 5:17PM
Hmm.
Yup, it's official, I completely do not understand the draw.
Thanks for the clarification though. I can now officially mark this off my "things to do before the man has me assassinated" list.

I'm vaguely disappointed in this tie-in as well. Doesn't seem to be the right way to reach a broader audience. Just doesn't tie-in well with traditional motorsports.
burgerbat @ Sep 13th 2007 11:19PM
At least your informed. Knowledge is half the battle.
Adam @ Sep 13th 2007 8:30PM
Buy more teh haloz!
And quit hatin on nascar. I don't like it either, but some (obviously a lot) of people like it otherwise it wouldn't be on TV at all.
G'day.
Bailiffman @ Sep 14th 2007 12:48AM
I love NASCAR and Halo! I think the sponsorship is a great idea.
smoke20 @ Sep 14th 2007 8:28AM
@15, Since when does nascar have A/C? I am in the nextel garage on a regular basis and they have a fresh air system that is directed to the driver by a vent located on the A-pillar. Stremme has been running good at times this year and has actually kept the car in one piece alot this year. @17, Nascar has a broader audience than alot of other sports series. Most tracks have over 100,000 seats and richmond last week sold out for the 5th consecutive year. The car is a rolling billboard for advertisers that spend on average $20 - $30 million a year to be on a car in Nascar.
Reaper117 @ Sep 15th 2007 1:27PM
You know what your all right NASCAR is NOT a sport... its a way of life. And i agree with everyone else when they say they should have picked a different driver because Stremme does suck at racing.
