After reading through the somewhat uneventful Xbox Flash Fall email we thought nothing of it, until Magic Whiskey cued us in on the Arcade section. There, we noticed that the yet to be released XBLA game
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is listed and at a whopping 1200 Microsoft points! We checked
Xbox.com's Puzzle Quest listing to confirm the price tag, but lo and behold no date or pricing details are listed. So we just shrug and walk away learning two things from our Xbox Flash email. One being that
Puzzle Quest should be releasing soon'ish, the other being that it's going to cost a bunch. A whole bunch.
[Thanks, Magic Whiskey]

Not too bad, considering Puzzle Quest is $29.99-$35.00. You're paying less than half price.
Benjamin09 @ Sep 18th 2007 5:10PM
600 Points for me!
Still have a ton of 1600 point cards left over from Circuit City's buy one get one free deal!
Magic Whiskey @ Sep 18th 2007 5:21PM
I wondered why it was so expensive when I emailed Knuckles earlier today too..I wonder if there's file sharing involved of some kind? Larger MB file?
What about the black UN helicopters? Chupacabra? Ingredients to SPAM? And while I'm at it, just WHAT THE HELL actually DID happen to Bea Arthur???
Gemini Ace @ Sep 18th 2007 5:23PM
No arcade title should be more than 800 points.
hawk @ Sep 18th 2007 5:31PM
You know you really just can't please some people. $15 is at least half the price of the portable versions. That's what I call a bargain.
Mark @ Sep 18th 2007 5:33PM
Here's where everyone complains and then buys it anyway. Some will buy it while sober and some will buy it while drunk, but the price point won't keep everyone from buying it. Just people who are cheap, like me.
Etchasketchist @ Sep 18th 2007 5:33PM
I gotta disagree with Gemini. XBLA should have as few restrictions as possible. Bigger, more expensive games are great! As long as they don't get rid of the cheap stuff and do only expensive stuff, I'm totally down with more variety and higher quality.
ChromaTick @ Sep 18th 2007 5:34PM
1200 seems a bit steep for a puzzle game even with the RPG elements. Based on playing the trial and word of mouth I'll probably still pick it up as it's one of the titles I've been looking forward to on the arcade.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 18th 2007 5:34PM
I'm buying it. I already own the DS version - which I paid $7 for because of a $25 gift card at Best Buy :p
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 18th 2007 5:40PM
"1200 seems a bit steep for a puzzle game even with the RPG elements."
Except when you consider it's half-price from the DS and PSP versions, as well as the upcoming PC version. Jesus, what a cheapskate.
Tony @ Sep 18th 2007 5:40PM
The game is really expansive and easily beyond most of what XBLA has to offer. We're talking a game people were happy spending $30+ on just months ago. It's hardly a rip off.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 18th 2007 5:47PM
I have my handheld version (DS) and will get the Xbox version AND I'll get the PC version at some point for my laptop. :D
Hugoku @ Sep 18th 2007 5:49PM
This game is really worth those meager 1200 points. It's totally addictive, super long, and it should have online puzzle battles.
Definitely worth it.
xenocidic @ Sep 18th 2007 5:51PM
Lumines was 1200 points but tried to pretend not to be by hiding some of the game in a content pack. I'd rather the pricing just be straight forward about it.
Magic Whiskey @ Sep 18th 2007 5:56PM
I'm absolutely buying it. It's cheaper than the DS version, looks better, and hell..if I don't like it, I end up saving about $15, having spent the 1200 points versus $30 for the DS version.
Puzzle game wise..I hope XBLA brings Shanghai.
Odog4ever @ Sep 18th 2007 6:05PM
I'm only disappointed because alot of people will shy away because of the price alone, even if it was $30 on ds and psp. It just looks expensive by comparison to the rest of the xbla library. The online vs. mode may be slim pickings if hardly anybody buys it.
I got strung out on the pc demo awhile back so they've already got my points. I needs my fix man!
William Ward @ Sep 18th 2007 6:06PM
A whole bunch? Um, no. That's $15. For the entire game as it appeared on the PSP, it's an incredible bargain.
cody @ Sep 18th 2007 6:47PM
god, will they just announce a release date?
borandi @ Sep 18th 2007 6:48PM
I'm trading in my DS game to get this for XBLA. I've completed it once, so this is gonna be fun. There goes another 70hrs of my life :)
RUSKULL @ Sep 18th 2007 6:45PM
isn't this still the cheapest version out there?
Andrew R @ Sep 18th 2007 6:57PM
I paid 1200 points for Lumines Live! (2100 points if you include the Advance Challenge mode pack, and the extra puzzle/mission pack), so I don't mind paying the same thing for Puzzle Quest. I'm certain it's worth it.
Otis Whitaker @ Sep 18th 2007 7:00PM
"Lumines was 1200 points but tried to pretend not to be by hiding some of the game in a content pack. I'd rather the pricing just be straight forward about it."
Pffft, Lumines was 1200.. without the content packs. So it wasn't even pretending. With the main content packs, it's over 2,000 Points
bak @ Sep 18th 2007 7:03PM
yep, I own the DS version as well and if this one has LIVE multiplayer OR offline multiplayer I'll be buying it. It's a great game. 15 bucks is a decent price for this, even for an older game...
Blue_Falcon @ Sep 18th 2007 7:28PM
I consider this a STEAL, and anyone who thinks otherwise should be bludgeoned.
Yadneb @ Sep 18th 2007 8:01PM
1200 points is totally in line with what I expected as well. 800 Would have been fantastic as more people on my friends list would be willing to give the game a try, but I still think the pricing seems fair from what I have heard about the game.
Adam B @ Sep 18th 2007 8:49PM
They might as well package it up and sell it in stores.
And I agree, no XBLA game should be more than 800 MS Points.
Bulbaz0r @ Sep 18th 2007 10:36PM
C'mon, guys.
If you think $15 is too much to pay for a full-blown RPG, you better be a homeless guy using a public library computer.
I bought this for $35 on this DS, then sold it on ebay when I heard the Xbox Live version had online play, and I've been excited for it ever since.
$15 is an absolute bargain for this game.
ccc @ Sep 18th 2007 9:46PM
It would seem that developers feel games that were on a portable then come to the arcade should for some reason cost more. I'll take Puzzle Fighter and astro pop any day.
Maurice M @ Sep 18th 2007 9:58PM
1200 for Puzzle Quest isn't outrageous. That's an appropriate price. This isn't remake shovelware like all those old crappy Atari games they've poorly ported for $10 a pop. This is a real value and I highly suggest anyone pick this up. I love it (PSP version) and I paid way more for it.
Mike Schramm @ Sep 18th 2007 10:39PM
Can. Not. Wait.
But please, MS, give us some time to recover from Halo 3 before this comes out. If this hits next Wednesday, I won't be playing it until January.
Icehawk @ Sep 19th 2007 12:14AM
I can't believe people are complaining about this one. Lots of people go ahead and buy those stupid GH song packs for 500 points despite the fact that they are getting ripped, then wont pay 1200 for a game that is actually a great deal. This isn't "really expensive" it's a total bargain.
EMaster @ Sep 19th 2007 12:22AM
1200 points?? That's like friggin 16 bucks in Canada. I'd rather get the DS version off Goozex for cheaper. F*ck that!
s-goat @ Sep 19th 2007 4:29AM
"A fool and his money are easily parted".
friedkat @ Sep 19th 2007 4:04AM
Do none of you realise for the money you're paying, you're getting something that has no physical packaging and negligible distribution costs, and is effectively locked down to your system and can't be traded in? Of course it should be cheaper, are darn sight more cheap! 1200pts is only expensive if you're going to play it for a couple of days and get bored of it.
Jon W @ Sep 19th 2007 8:09AM
$15 is not that much for a game that retails for at least $20
Charles Nickerson @ Sep 19th 2007 8:14AM
lmfao.. a whole bunch? Someone is tripping.
casinoemp @ Sep 19th 2007 8:35AM
This is the best game ever. It's well worth the $15 to play it on a big screen.
SenorSpider @ Sep 19th 2007 2:37PM
There's also a Wii version coming out, and that will be $30 like the DS/PSP and eventually PC version. So this is the cheapest version out there AND is the only one with online battles. It's more a FAIR price, then a high one.
ScreamingSkull @ Sep 19th 2007 9:08AM
15$ is nothing for the amount of time you can invest in this game, I played the psp and ds versions so much that I had to make myself stop.
Hey Apples @ Sep 19th 2007 9:43AM
The 800 point price level is so low that we end up with a fleet of shallow, unoriginal XBLA titles with little replay value.
I am so sick of the cheapskate mentality among gamers.
Turboman @ Sep 19th 2007 10:42AM
"No arcade title should be more than 800 points."
It's not an arcade game stupid. It's a frikkin' full retail game with HD. Holy shit you have to be stupid to not buy this.
dunnypop @ Sep 19th 2007 11:32AM
I wonder if Street Fighter 2 will be this much.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 19th 2007 11:35AM
"This isn't remake shovelware like all those old crappy Atari games they've poorly ported for $10 a pop."
Except you're not paying $10. You're paying half that. If you're going to rant, rant correctly.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 19th 2007 11:36AM
Can we all remember one central issue?
NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO BUY ANYTHING. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY IT. IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED, SAY SO THEN JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP.
I'm going to buy it, without even a trial. End of story.
TeamSAM @ Sep 25th 2007 10:47AM
this is a rip-off
