Gears (and every other game) gets dethroned by Halo 3

In gaming news that really isn't all that newsworthy and should be filed under the "well, duh!" category is word that Halo 3 tops Major Nelson's most played Xbox Live games list this past week knocking off Gears of War from its long held number one spot. Shocker! But don't feel bad for Gears fellow fanboys, because it's still holding strong nearly a year after its release at its newly acceptable number two position. You had a wicked good ride Gears, but now our new friend Halo 3 is taking the wheel and driving Xbox Live into 2008. And don't worry, we'll still visit you every once and a while.

Now if other Xbox owners new a real game from shit Team Fortress 2 from the Orange Box would top Halo 3 in a month. Thats assuming that TF2 is as good as its predecessors... which is a reasonable assumption compared to making the assumption that the average Xbox owner has even heard of Half-Life

After everyone realises Halo 3 is just another FPS and is barely more remarkable than Halo 2, most people will be back on to GoW. I predict this will take about a month, for the simple people's heads to be clear of all the marketing campaigns.

Is this a joke? Has everyone gone mad blind?! Am I the only one who feels that Halo 3 is not all that impressive? The graphics are comparable to Perfect Dark Zero, yes, a first gen-game. The sound effects and music are cheezy. The weapons don't on WWII shooters pack more fire power. And the graphics and fun-factor of Gears of War still outweigh Halo 3. GOW is the best game of 2006, and Bioshock is the best game of 2007. Halo 3 is a good 2005 game. Please, tell me there are a few people that feel like I do! Otherwise, please help me understand what makes Halo 3 such a great game. I don't see it!

why are any of you bashing one 360 game over another? you should all be greatful that you have the selection of amazing games on the system. each time a gears or bioshock or halo is released it sets the bar a little higher for future games to match or surpass.

and to the people who say halo is crap, i would have to say you are in the minority. the game didnt sell as many copies as it did based on hype alone. it is a fun game to play...just ask the 1 or 2 million people who already own it.

yeah, gears of war got old pretty quickly when i realized all that really happens is people run in circles shooting either the lancer or a shotgun at each other. u might get the occasional grenade or crossbow shot... occasionally. at least halo 3 maps are dynamic and there's more than a handful of weapons. gears has graphics and a decent campaign... while halo 3 graphics may not match it, at least it has dynamic gameplay... and WAY more custom options in every aspect of the game...

Gears of War has the worst and shittiest matchmaking system period. Since Gears launched Ive said over and over again, why couldnt they copy the Halo lobby system. Had Epic done that Gears would have been king.

The reason Halo3 works is because they didn't change the gameplay they only made it better.
Don't worry though, Gears of War 2 will have matchmaking and that game will be way more better online. But to the people that cry about lag are n00bs. Play it on PC this year on Windows Live if your PC can handle it and see what you can really do.

Is that a fact? is that why there was 'live action' clips, the diorahma, game fuel, etc etc etc? Please someone tell me something revolutionary about Halo 3. Yes it has amazing graphics, they don't blow me away but they are some of the best I've seen and to be fair, the amount of time they worked on it, I expected it to be better. BUT, at the end of the day it's a FPS, nothing special whatsoever.
I see GoW as a revolution in 3rd person gaming for the cover and the cut-scenes, COD4 showed us the 'perk' system, which is new, but Halo 3...well it introduced us to...em...aliens from previous Halo games? no sprint button, no cover type options, jumping ridiculous heights.
I'll give them something, they sure milked the franchise for it's final send-off.

SCARAB BATTLE, flipping them things on their back for MASSIVE DAMAGE is just pure epic.....wait, wrong game, wrong system.
Seriously though, the way GoW plays just doesn't allow for great battles against huge bosses such as the Corpser and Brumak, add in a few different moves and interaction with the environment, such as climbing to get higher and leaping on the back of a Corpser or something. So I guess that's one thing H3 has over GoW and many others, huge motherfucking bosses with multiple ways of taking them down, rather then following a linear strategy.
Oh and the huge multiplayer suite and its sheer variety is quite awesome too. Basically, i'm more for scale of the levels, with shit loads of AI going on, whereas GoW is quite small with no more then 10 AI at a time.
I love GoWs smooth and simply awesome looking gameplay btw.

Beat Halo 3 this weekend... definitely have to say I was more impressed with GoW. Being a person who could care less about playing games online, Gears looked WAY better than Halo 3 (graphically), audio was much better in Gears, storylines of both were just about equally as flat, but overall - right out of the box, Gears impressed me MUCH more than Halo 3 did.
As far as multiplayer goes I imagine Halo being more fun - being as the last multiplayer games I played were Unreal Tournament series, Quake III, FEAR, etc. I would probably liken Halo 3 to those experiences more than Gears. As far as a game that sells the system, I still think Gears is the best as far as graphics, sound, and gameplay.

A bunch of my friends and I did 12 hours of Halo 3 online MP Saturday. We basically held the same 14 person party all day...it was amazing. My new favorite game type is Infection...crazy fun!

Well, I'm on the list of Halo 3 players. Although I agree that Halo 3 is not as impressive as Gears of War. Halo just happens to be a lot of fun to play, and so is Gears of War. Halo is just a bit faster and has vehicles (which are so much fun).
Once I play Halo3 enough, I will probably be playing 50/50 of Halo and Gears. They are both awesome games...but if I had to pick only one, I think I would stay with Gears of War.

I'm automatically biased though due to after being so into the Halo fiction i'm obviously gonna love moving about inside it.
Though GoW definetly is more impressive with graphics and smooth gameplay, the cover system is great and fluid. But it is still on a pretty small scale with only 2-8 enemies at a time.

Let me assess each of the games being mentioned to adhere to everyone's opinion...
Bio shock is a somewhat entertaining single play through experience... ZERO replay value... Decent graphics, a retarted storyline but I have to emphasize again... ZERO REPLAY VALUE !!
I know tons of people that asked themselves after they finished the game... "What was the point?" Not a great game at all by any standards... And theatrically... The demo makes the game look and feel 10 times better than it really is... The first 30 mins of the game is the only entertaining part...
As for Gears... Excellent game... Stunning even... 2 player co-op? Even better !!...
More fun than Halo 3? well I don't think so... And the 751,348 record breaking gamers online right now don't think so either... Not even counting the ones that are at work or in school...
Anyone who even forms the idea that Halo 3 isn't revolutionary should be cock slapped in the eye...
Halo 3's water WHOOPS BIOSHOCKS ASS ON ANOTHER LEVEL...
I don't know about you but... I put Gears in to compare the other day and I think everyone is exaggerating... Both games are stronger in certain areas of their graphics... In FACT !! Overall Halo 3's graphics impressed me the most... The Facial expressions are fucking NUTS !!! and the Dyanmic range of the distant structures and areas is CRAZY... Nobody has done that kind of shit with this kind of quality !! NOBODY... The Scale is huge...
and I don't even need to mention the abilities and possibilities of Forge and Saved Films...
Just those features alone should be their own game that would STILL kick severe ass...
Truth of the matter is... You are one of two people... You either hate liking what everyone else likes because you enjoy feeling unique and have a really messed up "fight the system" sort of attitude...
Or... You have a fuckin brain... and the capacity to recognize well envisioned art, engineering, story telling, dynamic and utterly ridiculously fun gameplay and the actual brilliance of the this new feature called Forge... Because of this ONE FEATURE, Halo 3 is a canvas... not a game anymore... It will NEVER get boring as long as there are creative and exciting Halo fans... and trust me there are tons of those...
(Minus those damned annoying 12 year olds that sound like girls and tea bag everything in sight when their balls haven't even dropped yet)
But those kids are in every MP game on the 360...
And FINALLY to clear this up... YOU ARE FUCKING RETARTED, if you DID NOT watch the credits after finishing Halo 3... I've gotten atleast 200 e-mails of people bitching that I was wrong and that the ending sucks......... YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT !!!!!! FUCKKKK !!
A lesson for everyone... When you finish a game ALWAYS watch to the end of the credits, because you NEVER know what kind of surprise they might have left for you at the end...
It is the hardcore gamer code of rituals... and it's dieying... so bring it back...
Once you watch that... Beat the final level on Legendary... There's a Bonus video... Which Confirms HALO 4... Although it isn't going to be called Halo 4... Just watch and enjoy...
