Bungie gets all the flaming helmet fun

While playing online against Bungie's own Ske7ch, tipster Flash2000 noticed something a bit odd about his helmet ... it was on fire! Yup, head on fire just like Ghost Rider. And after doing a bit of Googling we found out that the flaming helmet armor permutation is available exclusively to employees of Bungie. So, no matter how much Gamerscore you achieve, how many skulls you find or how much you cry about it, you can't get a flaming helmet. Those lucky little devils.
[Thanks, Flash2000]

I'm probably in the minority, but I think all of the Hayabusa armor stuff is dumb. It takes me out of the experience and the world that they've painstakingly created. Equally ridiculous would be a helmet that looks like Batman or Spiderman or *insert comic book character*, but I fear that we're going to see that sort of nonsense in downloadable content. Heck, Burger King was an early sponsor, why not a Burger King, "King" helmet...? In my opinion it hurts the lore of the game world. If they want hard to get pieces, design something new and cool that fits, don't just add katanas and similar nonsense.
Rez @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:46AM
Ah well! I suppose they can use the sword aswell and all have shiny gold shoes to boot.
Looks cool though, I wouldn't say No.
question.com @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:47AM
i played against flash. he had the katana on his back. i snapped a few pics and saved it on my fileshare

The lore of the game? Seriously dude? It's friggin multiplayer!
Sure if they had that stuff in the campaign it would be ridiculous but I like the customization in matchmaking. Somehow I can't see them bringing in a batman or burger king dude helmet but the more cool permutations they do bring in via dlc the better!
DemonGSides @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:48AM
All that does is give me an easier target when sniping.
Idiots.
LuckyEMS @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:51AM
the reason there is a hayabusa helmet is to "repay" Team Ninja for putting a spartan into DOA4
Chance Morgan @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:56AM
Just enjoy the fact that the guys at Bungie know how to appreciate their friends in the gaming world. I think that their homage to DOA4 is cool. Just as I thought the Spartan was a cool crossover addition to DOA4.
ChewyDogg @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:57AM

Because a bunch of multicolored Spartans running around and shooting each other makes total sense in Halo lore?
Sunny @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:59AM
The flaming helmet exclusivity for the developers is pretty cool I think. Then you would know that you are actually playing with one of them when you see it.. Until the cheaters start to pop up...
Neon Jebus @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:02AM
It's a cool way to know you are playing against a Bungie employee! As for the Hayabusa armor. It's been one week and it's already played out to me. I see so many people wearing it already that it no longer is 'cool' to me.
I do enjoy seeing that just because a person has the armor doesn't mean they are good at multiplayer. I find that to be the case almost 95% of the time.
KC @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:06AM
Not a fan of the Hayabusa armor. Not about to jump through hoops to try to get it either. :-)

JERKED!! lol
Hooligunn @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:11AM
Actually your incorrect X3F! It's a settable player trait in custom game options! Sorry to burst your bubble there :)
Maybe you should report the "Bungie Employees Only" Rogue armour that everyone's talking about instead?
dunnypop @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:15AM
@1 I wouldn't mind getting a Burger King helmet. That would be hilarious when pwning people on multiplayer.
But yeah, it's multiplayer. If you can add the armour on Campaign, that's another story...
xenocidic @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:15AM
meh
Bravo6 @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:16AM
haha I agree #5, I love when people wear that one helmet that has the huge hold dome in front - soo easy to target
Matt @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:18AM
MS will probably have this flaming armor as a marketplace download in the future for 800 MS Points. ;-)
Kato @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:21AM
I played Frankie the other day and noticed the flaming helmet but since he was in the lead I just thought it was a part of the game type we were playing. Those Bungie guys get all the fun toys.
BobTheMonkey @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:23AM
@15
I just had a mental image of getting killed with the shotgun, then getting teabagged by the Burger King.
I would laugh out loud of that happened.
Hipple @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:23AM
Ninjas on fire?
Bravo6 @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:01PM
Would be better if somebody went on a serious rampage/spree and their helmet lit on fire!
Mr BoomStick XL @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:05PM
At this point in the game it would be funny to see different helmet types rather then the same old stuff. How about a Pumkin Head for Halloween? (Just Kidding!!) Seriously, it would be cool to see Bungie take customing your Spatan to the next level via DLC!! Helmets off to Bungie for caring about the fan base!!
Neon Jebus @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:16PM
Boomstick makes a great point. I would love to see new helmet types available by DLC. I would love to see grunt heads, brute heads, Oni...Mister Chief. Lots of crazy stuff too in time. I'd toss 80points per 4-6 head pack.
Spitkicker @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:19PM
I...am....so...jealous. I want it.
dylan @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:21PM
How about a football outfit permutation with the gold visor in front of the face but the rest would look like any other madden character, complete with custom name and number on the back.
BULLHAWKWHEEL @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:27PM
thats pretty sweet...i wouldn't necessarily sport one but i'm all about customizing my spartan online as much as i can.
Neon Jebus @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:28PM
For some reason I'm having flashbacks of NBA Jam!
OBM @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:51PM
flaming helmet is so old, played against Ske7ch and a few others the week before release and they all had the flaming helmets and Bungie symbols beside their names in the lobby.
Skullman210 @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:02PM
Thats not fair.
Grant @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:13PM
"All that does is give me an easier target when sniping."
i would tend to disagree, since you can't shoot the fire, it would make the target a little harder to hit.
but i agree on the big gold face shield helmet, it just screams headshot.
DemonGSides @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:10PM
How does it make it harder to hit? All the helmets are technically the same size, what I meant is that its easier to spot at a distance, as opposed to say, a regular helmet peering over a rock.
David W. @ Oct 3rd 2007 5:07PM
Anyone know what the symbol by people's ranks mean in multiplayer? it looks like a gear with a line coming down from the top to the middle?
Guffbox @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:02PM
Poor bastards. Can't even afford flame-proof helmets. Bungie must not pay very much.
snowy @ Oct 4th 2007 1:59AM
so how long until this is available to download for 500 MS points?
OvenMittNinja @ Oct 4th 2007 2:02AM
@ #5
You're just pissed that you don't get a flaming helmet.
Fire makes anything kick-ass.

@ #33
That's the Seventh Column logo. You can have it appear next to your name if you have a bungie.net account.
Majormauser @ Oct 4th 2007 4:21AM
So I guess I will start calling them Flamers....
Colt Thompson @ Oct 5th 2007 6:48PM
Stupid red ring of death, I'm missing out ont he hayabusa armor or whatever when all I have to get is the I would have been your daddy skull... I knew the Halo song had 7 notes, 7 rings with Truth at the end? cmon kinda obvious... NOT took me forever. But the king hem must Pwn and hard.
B3N @ Oct 6th 2007 12:39PM
I personally hate the look of the hayabusa armor. But i also love that everybody wears it because it make's my scout helmet look that much more unique. Plus the Hayabusa makes it so much easier to head shot at long distances. And lore? wow
smeagol92055 @ Oct 10th 2007 4:32PM
How long before the modding 12-year-olds out there start popping up flaming helmets? Or flaming full-body armor sets? Or useable katanas? But yes, the Hayabusa is tired already, and it does make for a grand target.
I'm loving that the Mark 4 armor is back.
Ollie E @ Oct 13th 2007 4:34PM
lol, I have the Hayabusa helmet and to be fair it is pretty cool!, also you do have to do an awe full lot to get it, especially the IWHBYD Skull. It took me and my friends like 9999999999 tries then we got it right and we were like whoop!!
Also, I must add that I have never seen the flaming helmet but the idea of download content would be cool, and the idea that if someone couldn't see it, it would just appear to be a normal spartan helmet.
COOK1E SN1PER @ Oct 20th 2007 3:06PM
I have the flaming helmet and i dont work for bungie, its actually quite easy to get it.
ADD ME if u want to get it and make sure you have at least 3 hours free to get it>>COOK1E SN1PER
peewee @ Nov 5th 2007 6:21PM
I hear that if you kill yourself creativly you will get one too. so try to set yourself up for a hard core kill on yourself.
