Even though we were
tipped off about one XBLA release this week Microsoft decided to surprise us with another. Releasing to the XBLA this Wednesday, October 10th are two new
Arcade offerings including the puzzle adventure
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords which is priced at 1200 Microsoft points and a racing game sponsored by Toyota called
Yaris which, to US and Canadian Live members, will be absolutely free.
We're sure
Puzzle Quest fans are already frothing at the mouth in anticipation for this Wednesday and already purchased their Microsoft points cards, but where the heck did this Toyota
Yaris game come from? Total left field here, but a free corporate sponsored game and some free Gamerscore is something we won't question.

They've shown off that game a few times... I think most recently at some Yaris event. There were screenshots of people playing it.
I didn't think it would just suddenly appear, though.

the link for Yaris is busted.

Once Yaris hits, people are gonna say "Halo who?".
qbix @ Oct 8th 2007 1:55PM
The Yaris game has been on achieve360points for a while. And yes, I was also thinking "WTF?" when I saw it. I refuse to get games just for the achievements though.

My first thought when looking at the screenshot is.. "wow, i didn't know the yaris can do 140"
as far as puzzlequest, recommended play?

woot!
free game and a hopefully great one.
sounds like a great Wednesday coming up.
Adam @ Oct 8th 2007 2:22PM
Why the fuck is this shitty free game, US and Canada only, bollocks to that.
E.J. @ Oct 8th 2007 2:41PM
@Adam, why bollocks a game that you don't care for? Why post in this thread, for that matter?
Besides, if you're from Europe, you guys have Smart Cars already. No need to market these Echo-replacements to a continent full of small cars.
Hooray for advergaming!

Hmm, maybe itll be kinda like Rush.
AfroCelt @ Oct 8th 2007 4:41PM
Puzzle Quest kicks ass on the DS, though its depth may not be so groundbreaking on a console.
Definitely tryout worthy though.

Sweet...free XBLA games FTW!
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 8th 2007 6:08PM
Not exactly out of LF. Backbone's been working on this for 8+ months now, and was listed on the XBLA wiki page.

" I refuse to get games just for the achievements though."
Er, it's FREE. What, exactly, are you giving up? (laugh)

"My first thought when looking at the screenshot is.. "wow, i didn't know the yaris can do 140""
Considering the Yaris cars have a robot arm sprouting from them, shooting robots on little bikes and battling robot spiders, something tells me this isn't a hardcore racing sim (laugh).
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 8th 2007 6:20PM
Oh, one more thing - Backbone did Yaris - they also did Bomberman Live and Super Puzzle Fighter for XBLA as well.
qbix @ Oct 8th 2007 7:43PM
I'm saying that, even if the game is free, if it isn't fun, I won't play it. Also, I don't like blatant advertisements in the shape of a game, but that's just me. Free is good, I don't have a problem with that. Nonetheless, I will continue to play only the games I am legitimately interested in.
Viridium @ Oct 8th 2007 9:41PM
@ E.J. - actually, if you're in Canada you've got the Smart Car already as well. It's just the US that's languishing for now. :)
Stan @ Oct 9th 2007 8:36AM
I have to get points.. NOW!
