Ah, who doesn't love a good demo? It's not quite like getting a free game, but it's close. Every day we turn on our beloved 360, hoping to see some shiny new demos winking at us coquettishly. Suckers that we are, we download them all, regardless of whether or not we're likely to enjoy the game. Today is extra special though, because not only do we have
two new demos on
Xbox Live Marketplace, but we have demos for games we've been eager to try. The first is
Conan, which gives us license to chop, hack, and bludgeon hapless foes (and who doesn't enjoy that?). The second demo is for
The Simpsons Game, which has been looking more appealing all the time. We're hoping that the demo gives us a nice long look at the self-referential humor that has been present in the recent trailers. But hey, whatever happens, they're free, right? Go give 'em a try.

I'm DLing them both currently. I hear the Simpson demo is frustrating at best.
Millypede @ Oct 8th 2007 9:57AM
This is amazing, just spent 40 mins going around, theres lots of hidden stuff and jokes. Awaiting the full game, this is a top demo.

I cant wait to try them out! I've been looking forward to Simpsons for a while, and Conan for a little bit. I love XBLM demos :)
Boff @ Oct 8th 2007 11:41AM
Cool! I'm still waiting for MS to give us the 'Remote Download' option, so as usual I'll just have to wait until I've finished work before I get them. :o(

simpsons demo was alot of fun from a fan point of view, great one liners, etc, it was a bit frustrating but doign it 2 player we got the donut boy down =)

I liked the DEMO for Conan. However, who did the voice acting? That Conan ENGLISH in the game is to well spoken. This is a big flaw because everyone knows from the comic books and the movies that this is not the case.

i've been waiting for this demo.... and i wasn't disappointed
Ben @ Oct 8th 2007 12:44PM
Conan should be fun. From everything I've seen it looks like this might be the best Simpsons game yet.

"Conan speaks many languages, including advanced reading and writing abilities: in certain stories, he's able to recognize, or even decipher, certain ancient or secret signs and writings."
Check out the actual source material, not the AHNALD version of Conan (though that's still good for different reasons).

the simpsons is pretty awesome... but it's pretty difficult. after 20 mins, I couldn't found it really difficult to attack the Lard Boy after the 1st attack. Visually just beautiful. I laughed quite a bit, a must buy for simpsons fans.
Conan isn't bad.
Anthology @ Oct 8th 2007 3:25PM
@9. Simpsons, i thought it was frustrating. Too many krusty dolls coming after you as you fight the boss. I got 2 of 3 panels smashed of the boss. The 3rd i could open but couldnt find a way to jump onto it. he was always too far away.
The graphics were a dissapointment, i thought it would look alot better. Wind Waker looked better and that was on Gamecube! I guess i was just expecting alot more smooth lines.
Camera kept jerking. Sometimes i would look in a direction and then it would reset the camera to a default view. Which was annoying. Dissapointed in the simpsons demo so far. but ive only played it once.
As for Conan, just felt like a cheap rip off of the God of War series with a primitive looking Conan. Was he actually releasing Kratos from those wooden cells? LOL
BowserUSC @ Oct 8th 2007 6:53PM
Ha ha, I read the title and thought some sort of Conan O'Brian game
MDJ2010 @ Oct 8th 2007 7:00PM
I managed to kill Lard Boy but it was hard, it took me 20 mins and at the end of it it says that the target time for killing him is 2 minutes, which seems impossible. I got the third part by floating bartman from the top of the highest crane, but it took a lot of tries. personally I thought the game looked incredible in HD and did enjoy playing it although yeah its a bit frustrating. Overall looks like itll be a fun game to add to the collection.

Conan.. like Stranglehold & The Darkness, is going to be another amazing game that gets overlooked due to poor marketing and limited appeal. Ive played the Conan demo 26 times already. I've also made a few Montage videos of it. Never have I been more intrigued by just 10 minutes of a game. The kills are EPIC, the graphics are sharp, the gameplay is PERFECTLY balanced, the overall feel of it will make you feel like you ARE the barbarian, the voice acting/music is brilliant and the gore is fabulous. True, it is similiar to God of War, but God of War is one of the greatest games EVER made. So, I mean.. who cares? If youre girlfriend resembled Lindsay Lohan in her prime, are you going to hold that against her?
God, I can see the reviews now. "6.5/10" .. "7/10" .. "3/5"
Meanwhile, average ass Halo 3 and boring ass BioShock are getting 10/10
Anthology @ Oct 9th 2007 1:05AM
@14 wow, you work for THQ? LOL. I played Conan and it was alright. Your comments about Halo 3 are on, but my friend, Bioshock is the BioShit! I dont even like FPS and it rules all.
MDJ2010 @ Oct 9th 2007 2:33AM
Haha 'Bioshit' - Best Word Ever! And yes it certainly is the Bioshit!

I was utterly dissapointed w/ the Simpson's demo. I have been looking fwd to it since I first heard about the game, but it was awful. Why did they have to make it so hard? I haven't dropped the F-Bomb w/ so much passion in a very long time. Maybe if they had chosen a different level to demo... But for me, its now gone from a Must-Buy to a Maybe-Rent. It was Zero fun after the first few minutes, but feel the full version deserves another look.
I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised w/ the Conan demo. Its a Definite-Rent, Maybe-Buy for me. Go figure.
ryan @ Oct 9th 2007 11:17AM
graphics in Conan need some touchups. the flickering shadows in the cutscenes reeeally bother me.
remember that part before the first elevator where the graphics slip and the fog is removed and everything is super sharp and colorful? yeah, they need to fix that.
enemy types seem to..not want to kill me. i stood for 10 secs and not one would attack.
and as far as Conan speaking all proper- they could do it, but at least make it sound more gruff. get rid of the one-liners in battle for all enemies and Conan that gets annoying.
other than that, not a bad rip from GOW. if they fix all those probs, i would buy it.
Boomaga @ Oct 9th 2007 1:33PM
You Simpsons bashers are nuts. I was expecting just another piece of licensed crap, but I was genuinely impressed. The demo probably made me laugh my ass off the most since Psychonauts and the graphics definately fit the Simpsons style. While I agree the mini Krusties were annoying, I thought the gameplay was pretty tight and it's obvious that Lard Lad was challenging, and that's not always a bad thing! It took me 20 minutes to beat him the first time, but I felt like I really accomplished something when I did. And once I knew what to do, I beat him in 4 minutes the second time through! When I get home from work I'm gonna play it again to see if I can find the bottle caps and coupons. I've been hoping for a good platformer for 360 for a long time, and it if comes in a hilarious Simpsons coating, even better!
I was looking at this as a rental at best, now I might be reserving it later today.
Ben @ Oct 9th 2007 4:12PM
Simpson's demo was puzzling at first but I figured it out after a couple minutes. It has a lot of style and I did have fun. Conan was like a mix of gow and bloodrayne2. It was fun, and took a little strategy at the end.
