New Prince of Persia prequel trilogy on the way?

According to a blog by the name of Surfer Girl Reviews Star Wars (no, seriously), a new Prince of Persia trilogy is in the works at Ubisoft Montreal. The trilogy is set before the events of the first three games, with the first installment supposedly due out in the second half of next year. The screenshots seen above are allegedly work-in-progress shots from the game, which features a younger Prince working together with a female character. The game eschews the darker nature of the second and third Prince of Persia titles, opting instead for a "a fantastical cross between The Sands of Time, Ico and Zelda." Sounds good to us.

thank goodness they're getting rid of that dark prince theme.. i loved sands of time, but the dark/emo theme kept me away from the two sequels.. i'm looking forward to this now

This is what they mean when they say people don't read the actual article.

i actually preferred the darker tone of the sequels. Although i still like games like Zelda so, it will be a definite consideration. Not sure about the graphics though, lets hope they improve them and take full advantage of the 360.

It's been a while since I played them, but I'm pretty sure I loved the first, hated the second, and was pretty happy with the third. Why? The first was *classic* PoP. It wasn't "upbeat", but the main theme seemed to be exploration, adventure, and loss. The second one had some retarded metal theme song and a chick in a steel fucking thong. I played it, and while the gameplay was still solid and fun, the environment was just not enjoyable. The third one was cool -- the lost the modern theme music, the female lead wasn't preposterous, and the snarky sidekick (/alternate personality) was pretty well-written. If the new ones are most like the first one, I'll be thrilled.
