Engadget unboxes 360 Arcade

So, we guess it's real then. Our buddies over at Engadget have some exclusive shots of a reader unboxing a brand new Xbox 360 Arcade. Yeah, they managed to snag unboxing photos before Microsoft has even officially confirmed its existence. Take that, public relations! As reported before, the console comes complete with an HDMI port (sans cord) and a 256MB memory card. One interesting new bit of information: it turns out that the console does not come with 5 Xbox Live Arcade games. What it does come with are 5 Xbox Live Arcade demos. Yeah, demos. That you could have downloaded for free anyway. Sure, the inclusion of a larger memory card makes it more usable than the (now defunct?) Core, but it doesn't quite seem like such a good deal a>
[Update: There seems to be some confusion regarding whether or not the 360 Arcade comes with 5 full games. The verbiage on the box (Plust 5 Trial Games!) refers to the 5 games on the disc or extra trial games beyond the 5 full games included. We're looking into it. Update as soon as we know for sure.]
[Thanks, DaveC]

only 5 demos? man...that's fuckin bullshit.
xenocidic @ Oct 15th 2007 10:06AM
demos?! BWAHAHAHAH
that's complete garbage
i feel sorry for the parents who pick this up thinking they're getting a good deal and having to buy the hard drive the next week when their kids want to download some retail demos.
DjDATZ @ Oct 15th 2007 10:10AM
it wouldn't be that bad if it didn't explicitly say "5 games included"...
or "These 5 games included", and it shows pictures of all 5 games...
Tony @ Oct 15th 2007 10:10AM
That's ridiculous. Some of the ones they are including are so old at this point that it wouldn't have hurt anyone if they were free.
Gemini Ace @ Oct 15th 2007 10:11AM
That's lame beyond lame. Way to fuck it up, Microsoft. Or should I say, way to pull a Sony.
SadisticHam @ Oct 15th 2007 10:14AM
Wtf. 5? It's not even worth putting on the disk. Chuck every demo to date on it maybe but even then, you should throw in some free games.
I got Hexic HD when i brought my 360, if there buying an "arcade" one surly they should get more.
DjDATZ @ Oct 15th 2007 10:15AM
What i want to know is if this has the Falcon chipset in it...
Cameron @ Oct 15th 2007 10:17AM
I'll be picking this up by X-Mas time. Just so if my 360 gets the RROD.
That is a waste of DVD! Microsoft You have to think about global warming eh?
xenocidic @ Oct 15th 2007 10:40AM
@3 yep, that's some false-ass advertising.
on a side note, if anyone doesn't feel like following the link to see what demos are included, they are - Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man Championship, and Uno
Bravo6 @ Oct 15th 2007 10:56AM
weak
Echtzeit @ Oct 15th 2007 10:57AM
Gsus, are you people to blind to read? Including you, Mr. editor.
It says on the Box: "This package includes a disc with games and demos rated PG-13+."
Which clearly means, five FULL version games AND five demos. Get your crap together.
DaveC @ Oct 15th 2007 11:08AM
I'm buying this as a replacement for my premium, just for the HDMI, it's not like I'll need to buy the hard drive and for £180 it's a steal considering people were paying £300 for the elite a while back.
zlionsfan @ Oct 15th 2007 11:14AM
I think it would have been a little clearer if Microsoft had listed the trial games on the box as well. The two links below are to Engadget pictures that show the five included games and suggest the five trial games.

I guess it's a decent collection of games, considering the intended audience.
Tony @ Oct 15th 2007 11:14AM
@11 - So what are the five full version games?
Tony @ Oct 15th 2007 11:15AM
Cool, thanks for posting that. Misleading! lol
DjDATZ @ Oct 15th 2007 11:17AM
Thanks Ecthzeit...apparently we're all blind and saw what we wanted to see...

It's E-E10+ btw, not PG13.
DjDATZ @ Oct 15th 2007 11:19AM
@ Zlionsfan...it tells you what the 5 games are but it doesn't tell you what the trials are.
Here's a better look at the game names quite clearly listed...this looked odd to me before when i saw it...

@Echtzeit , i rarely make the jump , i trust the diligent fanboy staff to summarize all relevant details in the article. folly? perhaps.
VampireHunter Z @ Oct 15th 2007 11:32AM
The included games are: Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac Man CE and UNO. The demos are separate.
The only crappy thing in here is the regular AV cable. Why not just include the combo component cable? It covers both standard AV and HD. Also I don't think I've ever seen a memory card in my entire life. If you can load game saves from both a HDD and a memory card at once it's worth it.
Matthew Mac @ Oct 15th 2007 11:42AM
Oooh, that should be edited.
Anyway, I have it on good faith (or a memo in the Electronics booth) that the street date for the Xbox Arcade is Oct 23, and we already have two in the back room. They said we'd get fined penalized for selling it too early, but they didn't say keep it secret...
Richard Mitchell @ Oct 15th 2007 11:47AM
Regarding the whole trial/full version thing:
We're looking into it. The box does not make it clear at all. We'll update if they turn out to be full versions.
mattclarkie @ Oct 15th 2007 12:01PM
The clue is plus 5 trial games. Therefore the above mentioned arcardes are full, plus there are trials. But why can't the person who unboxed just tell us.
CanesTim @ Oct 15th 2007 12:02PM
Why did they not include an ethernet cable and headset? They are obviously trying to get to the casual gamer by pushing XBLA. But why not include the two damn things you need for XBL? Seriously, those cheapass headsets probably cost .25 cents to make in China and the ethernet cables can't be much more. Lame move for a company trying to push the XBLA by leaving out what you need to connect to XBL.
afi2099 @ Oct 15th 2007 12:40PM
65nm chipset?
Lot number?
Giulio Magno @ Oct 15th 2007 12:44PM
does this system come with the new falcon motherboards?
Xion @ Oct 15th 2007 1:48PM
its the 5 shown for free-PLUS* 5 more Trail games, as it says.
OOkladek @ Oct 15th 2007 6:33PM
to Giulio Magno and afi2099 the guy who got the system sayd on the talkback's that he isnt going to open the box so we can't really know untill someone else get his hands on another unit.
Avaren @ Oct 15th 2007 6:53PM
One of my idiot co-workers was denied sale of this by the register today. Lawls.
afi2099 @ Oct 16th 2007 12:28AM
Here's a pic, but everything's blurred out!

Echtzeit @ Oct 16th 2007 1:04PM
Thinking is the key here, Mr. Mitchell. Why on earth would anyone advertise and sell a console with 5 games which AREN'T full versions?
And you call yourself fanboys? I really like the page, but that doesn't account for bad research.
News like this are not too good for the image, don't you think?
Richard Mitchell @ Oct 16th 2007 3:05PM
Echtzeit,
While I appreciate your concern for our website, there is nothing to research. Remember, as far as MS is concerned, the 360 Arcade doesn't exist. All we have are some photographs from Engadget. Like it or not, the text on the box is debatable. Engadget still claims the games included are demos, and they're the ones that broke the story.
I agree that it would be stupid to include 5 demos instead of full versions, but I wouldn't put it past Microsoft. After all, they sold the same package with no games at all before, so it could still be perceived as a value add.
JwEagle @ Oct 16th 2007 10:26PM
right now at the k-mart in my town they have an Xbox 360 arcade for sale
