In the latest issue of
Games for Windows Magazine, 2K Boston head honcho Ken Levine talks about what's in store for
BioShock as far as downloadable content goes and what they're already working on. Levine confirms that their studio is working on new content, but will not be adding new narrative storyline saying that "I'm not a really big fan of expanding things just by linearly adding to the experience, adding a new campaign, as much as I am of enhancing the original experience and adding replayability to that experience". Levine then goes on to say that he feels that
BioShock's overall combat can be expanded upon and that numerous plasmids were cut during development, so they could be brought back in the form of DLC.
Nobody knows when the expanded
BioShock content will land on the Marketplace or what specifically 2K Boston has planned, but what we do know is that we won't be getting our hopes up for an expanded
BioShock storyline or additional campaign missions. Though, we're simple people and would be happy with a few new plasmids.

I just hope there is another 250 'cheevo points so I have a reason to crack open my CE
DiscoGhost @ Oct 17th 2007 11:23AM
Yeah, I can't see myself playing through bioshock for a 3rd time just to use a new plasmid or two...weak
OBM @ Oct 17th 2007 11:34AM
we want multiplayer!!!
pierce @ Oct 17th 2007 11:43AM
he didnt rule out multiplayer..
but with tf2, halo 3, and some graw2 and r6v players would they really even bother?
OptimusGeorge @ Oct 17th 2007 11:56AM
I know I've specifically put off playing Halo TO play BioShock... It's a totally different beast than Halo or other "combat" based FPS's... so I totally disagree with your comment. I'm positively sure people would really bother.
mark @ Oct 17th 2007 12:02PM
i was really hoping for them to add another section to rapture because new plasmids and new weapons wont really change the game it would be more of a gimmick to buy the DLC
Bravo6 @ Oct 17th 2007 12:07PM
I played through the game 3 times, I don't see myself playing through it again just to use a new few plasmids. As much as I loved playing the game, I feel like I should have rented it.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2007 12:07PM
don't really care about this DLC.
i seriously only used the electricity and big daddy plasmids for the most part.
it would've been nice to have more enemy types that force you to experiment with the other plasmids or having more puzzle based obstacles to use them on.
great art style and audio, I had a fun time playing through half of the game. Last boss was kinda Hokey and lame. most of the time i killed bodies, and searched bodies. kinda boring (so i should blame myself for not experimenting right?)
more gameplay for the sequel please, not just millions of ways to kill. :/
TORO @ Oct 17th 2007 12:11PM
what else is there to do in Bioshock once you beat it??? been there done dat
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Oct 17th 2007 12:11PM
How about 4 on 4 Big Daddy vs Big Daddy Deathmatch, and about 3 maps =) Would be cool. Or 4 Humans vs 4 Big Daddies that way you get the plasmids in there. I dunno just a thought =)
Anthology @ Oct 17th 2007 12:19PM
Yeah i already beat it twice. If they give us 1-4 new plasmids for free, i dont think that would make me replay the whole game.
MDJ2010 @ Oct 17th 2007 12:52PM
Ive beaten the game about 15 times, I really havnt got bored of it yet. I do like the idea of a co-op addition where a team can work against maps ful of Bid Daddys but no doubt all we'll get are plasmids. Whatever it is I will definately be playing again when new content drops
Sunny @ Oct 17th 2007 1:01PM
Well, I never did finish my first playthrough (CoD4 beta took over), so this would be cool... if it were free.
Shaft @ Oct 17th 2007 1:13PM
Just new plasmids?
Try harder. DLC should be a mission, multiplayer, or something big.
The plasmids aren't that compelling.
intRvenous @ Oct 17th 2007 1:16PM
Something to flesh-out the Tennenbaum character would be nice - a new unlockable section of the level where you can meet face-to-face...
intRvenous @ Oct 17th 2007 1:17PM
... and oh yes, I second the co-op motion.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2007 1:22PM
she'd just look fried up and mutated dude. what i want to know is how she could tell the future once you beat the game (good ending).
she a fortuneteller or does she live a really loong time?
ryan @ Oct 17th 2007 1:25PM
co-op in Bioshock is basically the big daddy plasmid. i used that for almost everywhere.
plus co-op would damage the creep factor for the game if you had someone at your back the whole time.
so no. sorry, no co-op. but multiplayer maybe...
dylan @ Oct 17th 2007 2:19PM
I loved playing bioshock, but have seious regrets that I payed full price for it. It was a very short game and I have very little interest in playing it again. In todays gaming world with xbox live offering so many options to games, I want a lot more for my 60 bucks. Halo 3 is the first game to really knock that out of the park. (I have yet to get the Orange Box, but Halos matchmaking system and saving videos hasn't stopped amazing me)
DiscoGhost @ Oct 17th 2007 2:23PM
@Bravo6
Me too, loved the game. Played it once w/out thinking about achievements, again to get 1000 GS but after that week or so I just gave it to my buddy and felt like I should have just rented...A games gotta have dynamic content like randomly generated maps or sick multiplayer to justify a high replay value...
DjDATZ @ Oct 17th 2007 2:45PM
ummm...don't devs realise that for games that have the replayability of bioshock, that they have to release the DLC within a couple weeks of the game being released or no one will care?
xenocidic @ Oct 17th 2007 3:14PM
I predict DLC will arrive mid/late-2008 , at the halfway point between Bioshock and Bioshock 2.
kidswithouteyes @ Oct 17th 2007 3:46PM
no matter what anyone else may say. The few plasmids that they chose to omit would be an awesome add-on to the game. lets not get ahold of ourselves kids who are asking for a complete expansion to the game. its just DLC, get it, enjoy it, and for the love of god do they really have to bend your arm to play bioshock again.....i think not. Soon as DLC is here my bank account will be a little lower and my xbox will be a little happier. Take it easy cry babyies
James @ Oct 17th 2007 5:07PM
If I ran the place (and I'm sure there's a reason I don't...), I'd just have 'em throw together a few hours worth of campaign set in existing levels, and finish a few of the plasmids that were cut. Total investment: next-to-nothing in graphic assets (maybe a new comic strip per plasmid), some time from the level designers, and the time it takes to test everything before release. I would totally buy a re-tread of what I've done already, as long as it's different (and maybe a bit harder). Throw in one or two environmental puzzles and some tough splicer battles and I'm hooked.
Melodious Yeti @ Oct 17th 2007 10:36PM
"numerous plasmids were cut during development, so they could be brought back in the form of DLC"
Sweet! Now we're paying for something that should have been included in the game when it hit store shelves.
xenocidic @ Oct 18th 2007 8:26AM
@yeti - they were cut during development. that doesn't meant they were finished.
warrenpeace @ Oct 20th 2007 11:26AM
Someone thought this was a short game? Are you mad? Did you rush through the levels or actually explore and see all the work the developers and designers had done? I checked the map often to make sure there wasn't an inch of space I hadn't explored. No other game on the 360 has had this level of design detail and story.
I don't think adding stuff is as easy as slapping a new graphic on the box, once it's gotten old. I'd be happy for anything 'cause I plan to play through it a second time, but even without that extra DLC I play to play it again regardless.
Didn't find it immersive enough? Put on your headphones and take your time.
ryan @ Oct 20th 2007 7:35PM
Headphones? so i can hear the same taunts from the same enemies over and over? no thank you.
involving? searching bodies and killing them repeatedly? nah.
there's some pretty moments in the game to be sure, and some creepy audio. but it all fell flat after a while. and that ending boss was just too lame. the ending itself wasn't that rewarding.
I beat the game in about 20 hours. a good time for a game i think. but the gameplay just wasn't there.
NO i don't find millions of ways to kill people involving.
New DLC is just as good if they said "hey try to play the game with the bees, wind, security, fire, and rage plasmids" because i didn't use those once.
