Per some
leaked scans of Best Buy's October 21st retail ad, this coming week you'll be able to get
Heroes: Season One on HD DVD for FREE instantly with the purchase of a new Xbox 360 HD DVD player. The free
Heroes HD DVD offer (which is valued at $99) will go into effect this Sunday and piggybacks the
five free HD DVD offer and
King Kong movie that's already included in the box. So, as things stand, you can now get the player,
King Kong,
Heroes and five other movies for $179. This week may be just the time to jump into the HD DVD world, especially if you're a
Heroes fan.

This is the most outrageously awesome promotion I've seen yet for HD-DVD. It's official: I'm in!
Ethan Rom @ Oct 19th 2007 9:42AM
I'm sold!
Kryptinite @ Oct 19th 2007 9:48AM
If I didn't already own one since last year, I would be all over this. Hell I still might just buy it.
Gemini Ace @ Oct 19th 2007 9:54AM
HEROES SUCKS! When are you guys gonna figure that out?
Boff @ Oct 19th 2007 10:10AM
I was hoping this would be in £'s but I saw the dreaded dollar sign. Gutted.
murph @ Oct 19th 2007 10:16AM
Ooooooh, very tempting. I remain on the HD/BR DVD sidelines waiting for these idiots to sort this out, but this is the first offer that has attracted my attention. Still probably going to pass until a HD format winner emerges.
FrankTheCrank @ Oct 19th 2007 10:56AM
$179.99 for an add-on that will soon be dead? Nielsen number show Bluray leading the war.
That's a tough sale. Plus it doesn't match my Elite and would stick out like a sore thumb.
I'll give you $99...but it's got to be BLACK.
john @ Oct 19th 2007 10:36AM
I'm a Hero and XBox fan but I don't think this deal does enough. With the announcement of the $399 PS3/40GB/Blu-Ray system...Microsoft needs to get the price down on the HD DVD drive to about $99. And they probably should offer a $50 instant rebate this holiday season. If they did that then prices
w/Rebate w/Rebate+HD-DVD
XBox Arcade $229 $329
XBox Pro $299 $399
XBox Elite $399 $499
That brings the Pro more inline with the new 40GB/PS3 sku..less 20GBs. But make the elite a better deal overall.
Sony is using the money gained in the sale of their Cell Processor/Facilities to Toshiba to finance these cuts. I'm fairly certain in their minds, the are willing to lose $400-500 million to regain some momentum. My guess, is they are hoping for 3 million console sales this holiday.
edhe @ Oct 20th 2007 6:22AM
Well i'm guessing that bizarre, bioware/pandemic & bungie all helped pay off the RRoD warranty issue. But I think that MS would be in a wise place to offer hd dvd price cuts now that halo3's shipped.

WWW.YARISFANBOY.COM 4 life!
dunnypop @ Oct 19th 2007 12:36PM
good deal... even if you don't like Heroes, ebay it! LOL
as with a previous poster said, they need to drop the price on the HD DVD player to win this war.
First to reach $99 for a player, will win this war!

What worries me and actually prevents me from laying down my money for this is that after I am done watching these 7 HD-DVDs I need to rent HD-DVDs . Since Blockbuster does not carry HD-DVDs, it puts a big damper in my plans to rent them out(I know I have Netflix but I would rather have choice from whom I rent) Also my current choice is Blockbuster since I also have a store close to my home and the Web+Store convenience is nice to have.
BananaBoat @ Oct 19th 2007 11:42AM
Hate to admit this, but I just triple failed in another stories comments section
No matter
I know what you mean by having choice, but for anyone that has netflix anyway, the HD-DVD addon is great. Bestbuy will have HD-DVD and Blu-Ray eventually (mine already does I think) but I can see why people would be hesistant, since they can't just go out and rent a new movie from a local store at this point.
Transformers was amazing on DVD. I can't wait to see it on HD-DVD. The thought has my spider senses tingling.
lysernix @ Oct 19th 2007 11:51AM
4. Yes
8. I'm holding out for black too. Not getting until that happens, if never - so be it.
VampireHunter Z @ Oct 19th 2007 12:25PM
Damn it. If I buy this now they are going to come out with the black drive next month. I'm very very close to buying the HD-DVD add on.
Tommy @ Oct 19th 2007 12:44PM
Have you seen BB's selection of BD discs? It's like one of each and mostly old titles... On-line rentals is much better and you can get HD that way...
Waffles @ Oct 19th 2007 1:10PM
