Xbox and Windows Live hit India November 5th
[Insert V for Vendetta joke here.] Indian gamers have a reason to celebrate next month, as Live for both Xbox 360 and Games for Windows will launch there on November 5th. A 12-month subscription will run 2200 rupees ($55 USD) and a 1600 MS Point card will cost 1070 rupees. That's roughly $27 USD, so Indians will be paying slightly more than Americans for their virtual currency. Xbox Live Marketplace content for India will be considered part of Asia, so any content available on the Asian XBLM (including XBLA games and movies), will be available to India. The Indian Video Marketplace will have Indian films available for download as well. Finally, India's Marketplace will be host to educational content for grades 1-12. What exactly that entails, we don't know, but we're sure it makes for good marketing.[Via Joystiq]

cool, they get it before we do here in canada, and we only have like a few hundred thousand more 360's here than in the sub-continent !

Being an Indian and living in the US I can say that this is a really cool feature. I had a cousin in India who bought a 360(he got a RROD also!!)and was telling me that they would be getting Live soon.
He is pretty excited about it cause he tried logging into the Live here and it just gave him hellish lag!!
So good times and Woot Woot!!

Canada has XBox Live, BUT we can not download Movies or TV shows. We only have access to XBLA, and playing games online.

Just chiming in with the obligatory comment about the state of the Video Marketplace in Europe.
"What?? India gets the video marketplace before the UK??"

isn't 2200 rupees a lot of money for the avg person in India?
siddharth s @ Oct 25th 2007 10:05PM
Well, Rs 2200 isn't a lot of money anymore. It was a year's of tuition at a public school at one time (in Bombay), but the last time I was in Bombay, a drink at some clubs was about Rs 500. With the younger generation more educated and more driven, they're making a LOT of money. Of course, you still can't earn rupees in India and spend dollars in India. Not for the next 5-7 years at least ...
FYI, Xbox live movie downloads will be a huge hit ... The film and music industry in India is very open to DRM free content. Hell, the music industry itself was selling MP3 CD's (~100-150 songs from various albums) almost 5 years back ....
