Sandwiched within' the pages of the December issue of EGM is a new
Halo rumor stating that either the Peter Jackson project or Bungie's next gaming venture could be a FPS MMO. EGM's rumor mole received special "word" that Microsoft is already busy creating a FPS MMO for the Xbox 360 and that it is tied to Bungie in some way. If one were to take the rumor further, one could speculate that the hush, hush Peter Jackson project or Bungie's post
Halo 3 project could end up being the rumored MMO. Interesting stuff indeed. No matter where the rumor originated from or what is references to, we're going to hold off on getting excited until we get official word from Microsoft or until we get some concrete proof. Though, we wouldn't totally be against playing in a MMO
Halo world ... it'd be liked
WoW, but so much cooler.

Oh guys I was imagining this for the past week and how incredible it would be. I even thought up the leveling intricacies and classes and vehicles and everything and then I read your headline this morning and practically scream but people were sleeping so I was considerate enough to keep it to a yelp.
Hope they make this happen.

Has there ever been a MMOFPS? I know about MMORPG, maybe it'll be a mix of stuff.
BTW very nice screenshot Dustin, I saw it on your bnet profile.

Listen to the latest 1UPyours podcast. The whole thing.

@TORO There is PlanetSide.

I see, thanks Xeno

Well I dig the idea. I dig knowing it would have to be on their servers and not players consoles all the more.
Since I don't play RPG's or MMORPG at all I've managed to stay away from the 'crack' trend. This would put a quick end to that...
The Cang @ Oct 25th 2007 10:11AM
Planetside was pretty fun.
If this turns out to be true and they can pull it off (think of the networking nightmare!), it'd certainly be interesting..
TORO @ Oct 25th 2007 10:17AM
So Neon Jebus you're not even considering Mass Effect? I've never really played RPG's before, but ME* will be my first one. Looks too good to pass up.
*I know I know, some of u don't consider ME a full-blown RPG game, but it's close ;)
Neon Jebus @ Oct 25th 2007 10:37AM
My roommate is an RPG playing nut so he is all crazy about Mass Effect. I'll get to play it because he'll own it.
I try them out from time to time. I want to play Eternal Sonata for reasons I can't explain. I dug Parasite Eve back in the day.
As long as they aren't turn based I tend to be alright with them.
intRvenous @ Oct 25th 2007 10:47AM
I just have to say that's the coolest Spartan armor I've ever seen (above). It's like a 'Sith Spartan' ;-)
DemonGSides @ Oct 25th 2007 10:51AM
Never going to happen.
Just think about it. Peter Jackson.
Working on an MMO.
Totally makes sense, right?
Should've hired some ex-blizzard employees for that job.
Tony @ Oct 25th 2007 10:56AM
I'd have to guess 100 to 1 that Jackson is mostly just an overall big-name figurehead/director. As long as he presents ideas and pushes things forward, he's more or less doing what is required of him. It's not like he's programming the game and I'd have to guess that there are art directors and other people who guide all of that.
There's also Huxley as far as games like this idea go, which should still be coming out for 360 from what I remember.
fLUx @ Oct 25th 2007 10:59AM
Well remember when Halo 3 was released, everyone wanted the Hayabusa helmet.....everyone worked hard to get that!
Just how people who plays MMOs (like me) want's to always do, upgrade your armor, get a better weapon, and so on...
Now, I can't see halo fans questing for hundreds of hours, but I can see a dumbed down MMO, more battegrounds and bosses, doing very well....
This could be what overtakes WoW.... ;)
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 25th 2007 11:17AM
Well, one of the ex-EGM editors works at Bungie now... some inside information?
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 25th 2007 11:19AM
"here's also Huxley as far as games like this idea go,"
There's currently PlanetSide - and Tabula Rasa coming, too.
Oh, and don't forget all those Tribes games.
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 25th 2007 11:23AM
I will say this: Onyxia has NO CHANCE against Master Chief. :p
Lucky @ Oct 25th 2007 11:41AM
They already said that rumor ages ago when about the 1st halo 3 announcement trailer came out....

I seem to remember back when Halo was first shown for Apple Mac computers as a 3rd person shooter that Bungie were intending the world to be persistent. That battles would be happening all over a Halo between the Covenant and Marines and you could go anywhere you wanted on the Halo itself. Now I think that would be cool. Persist a whole Halo world and allow people to play either the Covenant or Marines and fight over control of the Halo. I remember thinking back then that I needed to get a Mac just for that game.
Tony @ Oct 25th 2007 11:51AM
I've played Tabula Rasa for a few weeks and while I believe it lets you zoom into first person mode, I'd probably stuff it into the more traditional MMORPG frame.
Mauricio @ Oct 25th 2007 12:16PM
hmm, i think i believe this would be true.
Especially if Microsoft would make us pay another 10 bucks a month for this. Seeing as how a shit load of halobots would pay the $10/month (id try it for a month), i wouldnt put it past microsoft.
prove me wrong microsoft, prove me wrong.
Robert @ Oct 25th 2007 12:33PM
@vaeric I remember reading that years ago too, either in an article or interview somewhere. Maybe it was just speculation at the time, but I do recall thinking what a giant game Halo was going to be, in terms of environments and players battling it out online.
Ryan Hartman @ Oct 25th 2007 1:55PM
I heard this rumor right after Halo 2 dropped. Isn't this just unsubstantiated fluff that's been floating around the internet for the past 5 years?
Anonymous @ Oct 25th 2007 3:52PM
Going anonymous for this one. Yup, it's true. I know my anonymous status makes my comment hard to believe, but I know someone who can confirm its veracity, and due to NDAs, I can't disclose the source.
You can choose to believe me or not, but for those of you who would look forward to this, you can rest easy. It's real. I don't know who's working on it, though, so I can't confirm developer pedigree.
