EA's 360 revenue trumps all other consoles combined

Gamasutra has revealed the financial numbers for Electronic Arts' fiscal quarter ending September 20, 2007, and things are looking good for the company's relationship with the Xbox 360. Electronic Arts went to the trouble of breaking down its revenue by platform, and the results are quite illuminating. Overall, software sales pulled in $435 million dollars. That's not the interesting part though. What is interesting is that the Xbox 360 pulled in $218 million by itself, leaving $217 million for the remaining consoles combined. Yes, EA made more money on the Xbox 360 than the Wii, PS3, PSP, DS, and PS2 together. Granted, it's a tiny margin, but we're sure garnering just over half of its earnings from one console has to make EA take notice. The complete breakdown is as follows:
- Xbox 360: $218 million (an increase of $52 million over the same period last year)
- PlayStation 2: $73 million (a drop of $196 million compared to the previous year)
- Wii: $59 million
- DS: $47 million (up by $33 million)
- PSP: $21 million (down by $43 million)
- PlayStation 3: $17 million

But..but..POS3 has better "potential". Xbox game sales means nothing!! Sony has too much to lose unless they start selling chip plants.....too late..Ha!! I hate Sony!!!

Yes, pie is good.

Is it cool to say I'm just waiting for this to pop up on PS3Fanboy?
isocrazy @ Nov 8th 2007 4:55PM
give us exclusives then thanks
Matt @ Nov 8th 2007 1:22PM
I'm sure it will pop-up on PSfanboy with some spin like, "It's the first year, wait until next year, etc, etc,"

Ha!

I'd imagine the actual profits picture is significantly different. Compare profit per PS2 title and profit per 360 title, and the picture is going to change a lot.
They aren't going to look at just how many dollars they can bring in, but at how many dollars they can bring in per dollar they spend.
The PS3, however, is doomed no matter how you slice it. Super high dev costs. Low sales.

the ps3 has been plagued by low frame rate for there version of the sports games this year. next year i'm sure it will be a different story. so if the 360 version is better this year and you have both, why not get the 360 version. that is what people including myself are thinking.
and why do you guys care what ps3 fanboi writes? if you dont have one then stay on the 3fixme fanboi site. i hate trolls, i have both consoles and because of that go to both sites, but i dont troll the wii site just because their console sucks, grow up guys.

Hopefully Konami is looking at this!
I'm sure Metal Gear Solid would do well on the 360 (however I don't give 2 $hits about the game)

This seems like a non-story because of the massive drop in PS2 revenue largely due to the fact that no one with a PS2 was going to buy, say, an '08 franchise game on a lame duck system.
JJ @ Nov 8th 2007 2:37PM
While the upswing in 360 sales is good for them, their overallr evenue seems to be down by the MASSIVE drop in PS2 sales.
So when you do look at the numbers objectively, it wasnt a good quarter for them revenue wise overall they had $150 million less in revenue than they did a year before. As any gain they had elsewhere dropped off due to lackluster PSP and PS2 sales
So they're not really rolling in the money flavored pudding so to speak.

and mian the dev costs on the PS3 aren't THAT much higher than the 360. Problem is dev costs have increased across the board. Which is hardly soley sony's fault. Also i dont know about any other multi console owners, but i'm not about to pay full price for a EA game on the PS3, that gives me less value than the same title on the 360 (i.e. madden, in terms of quality).
ya know what i mean?

"Granted, it's a tiny margin"
To EA maybe but I'd be well happy making 1 mil more than anyone

The Sony fanboy mantra has been "Look at all this cool shit that's going to come out!" for years. Guess what happens when that "Cool shit" comes out? For an example, let's take a look at Lair. Lair was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. And it SUCKEEDDDDDD. Heavenly Sword? Supposed to be awesome but...IT SUCKEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. Now the PS3 fanboys are excited over a second life clone (that is just as lame as second life, no matter what system you play it on), and Metal Gear Solid 4 (which looks good, but will eventually land on the 360 anyway).
As an owner of a PSP and PS3, I'm sick and tired of waiting for things to happen, that won't (in the case of the PSP) and might not (in the case of the PS3). GIVE US SOME GAMES SONY

EA, is a giant and honestly I wonder if any other American game company profited as much as they did this past year. Is UBIsoft American?

Enjoy Cavemen while it last.

The "Moore Effect"?
ccc @ Nov 8th 2007 5:38PM
@16
I'm willing to bet that by this time next year the PSP, PS2 and PS3 will be the bottom 3 of Ea's sales revenue.
