GHIII bands see album sales increase
Guitar Hero III has seen rather stellar sales since launch and the game's musical talent is seeing the financial benefits too. According to various record labels who have music featured in GHIII, they're saying album sales have seen a dramatic spike for the better in the US which can be attributed to their inclusion in the video game. Roadrunner Records has even revealed that DragonForce's album "Inhuman Rampage" has seen a 126% week-on-week sales increase and Slipknot's albums have seen similar sales spikes too. How about them apples? And to all the record execs who keep an iron grip on their artists' music and think video games aren't a viable marketing tool for their content, then we say "ha, ha dummies, you're wrong! So very, very wrong! Ha!"

I'm guilty... I heard a bunch of stuff I'd never listen to and immediately went out and bought a few albums.
Fall of Troy FTW.

Maybe RIAA will take the broom out of its, well, you know, and relax a little instead of suing grandmothers...
In related news, I'm still too self conscious to buy Rock Band even though I'm a closet air drummer extrodinaire :)

It's cool to see stuff like this, although I wonder what numbers the Dragonforce album was at to begin with. The only song I really didn't like playing in the game was Slayer's lol.

Who didnt see this coming? More the reason that new DLA content should be FREE, yes FREE. If people like the music, they will buy the albums.

Dragon Force FTW!!!

Funny thing is that even for bands I didn't like, I enjoyed playing their song--finding a new appreciation.

DragonForce song is terrible...I wish Guitar Hero would focus on more genres rather than 75% metal/hard rock. The variations that are on there are bad-ass!
DaffyDuck @ Nov 12th 2007 2:56PM
Artists would be paying to be included in GH4.

I think DragonForce suck large donkey kong sized testicles. Raining Blood was good and One was decent. Shame there wasn't any neck-breaking thrash :'(
DeadPlasmaCell @ Nov 12th 2007 3:33PM
This is good news. Hopefully this will give those bands who might be on the fence a reason to include their music in the game. Oh and your favorite bank sucks.

i guess everyone that hated dragonforce on ghiii has never actually played a guitar b/c just on difficulty alone that song is the shiznit go watch them playing on you tube and take your thumb out of your ass and try to play it on ghiii or a real guitar my guess you wont succeed
Neebs @ Nov 12th 2007 4:35PM
Guessing by my own actions, Inhuman Rampage also had an increase in seeds.
If you know what I mean.

Dragon Force is awesome, i would love to see more bands include their music in future GH installments thanks to this news!

Tony, it's very difficult to cater to everyone's tastes. They could just sell the game and let people buy the tracks they want to download but that would remove the structure from the game.
I personally like heavy, power, symphonic, prog and melodic death metal; jazz, blues, hard rock etc. Don't really like indie, punk, death metal, most thrash metal, black metal, glam metal.
A lot of the stuff I like probably wouldn't be popular enough for them to bother with :( Perhaps they could release a track development kit which bands/labels could purchase.
