Halo 3: Second matchmaking update is live

In brief, the matchmaking update removed Social Doubles, added Rocket Race, added new maps to both Team Slayer and Rumble Pit, Lone Wolves increased to six players and got Swords, and Multi-Team received some newness too. You can read this second matchmaking update's changes in detail after you make the treacherous jump. Happy matchmaking!

haha I haven't played Halo in over a month...
I like social doubles though...so one less reason to go back, heh.
Jay900 @ Nov 14th 2007 10:24AM
i'm done with halo 3 matchmaking until they fix the bullcrap that comes with it for me its other games and customs with friends
thisguyrighthere @ Nov 14th 2007 10:32AM
@1
My feelings exactly. I haven't played in...well, I can't remember the last time I played, but I liked social doubles.
I wasn't planning on playing anytime soon so I guess it's no big deal they removed it.
bentheo @ Nov 14th 2007 10:33AM
rocket race is far too much fun
iLuvUrOpinion @ Nov 14th 2007 10:36AM
Bungie, FIX COOP MATCHMAKING, YOU RETARDS. Pretty-Please.
Matt @ Nov 14th 2007 10:36AM
I like Halo 3 and kind of miss it, but it's been all COD4 for me since November 5.
JAKEJAX @ Nov 14th 2007 10:39AM
melee still bites.
Scott @ Nov 14th 2007 10:39AM
I am still playing a couple times a week, the matchmaking is great. I don't understand why they would remove social doubles though? What was that hurting?
TORO @ Nov 14th 2007 10:44AM
Rocket race is hilarious, stayed up too late yesterday. Removing Social Doubles doesn't really bother me, but my partner and I used to warm up here.
Emily @ Nov 14th 2007 10:50AM
Damn that sucks that they got rid of Social Doubles, Rocket Race is okay, but nothing special, it didnt deserve to get it's own playlist.
Hand 'Em High better be on the new list man. I want it! I WANT TO PLAY IT NOW!!
I've been aching to play hang 'em high since the 3rd came out.
Justin Chandler @ Nov 14th 2007 10:53AM

i'll be getting a console this holiday season and i'm kinda sad to see halo mania is already dying down even by the fanbois. i've played multiplayer a few times at a friends ad i like it but ps3 actually has good games coming out. looks like i'll be playing haze and uncharted at my house instead of halo 3 around christmas.
dunnypop @ Nov 14th 2007 11:19AM
yeah it's weird how the Halo 3 phase is dying down. everyone on my friend's list is playing COD 4.
I think one of the reasons is that people are way too good at this game, which deters new people from playing. That's why my friends and I stopped playing. I play Halo 3 about once a week, and on avg I see about 400k people online playing.
Good to see they are still doing updates. they need some DLC... and the DLC needs to be free.
Josh @ Nov 14th 2007 11:21AM
never played rocket race before last night, and it sure is a fun diversion from the other playlists
Lianne @ Nov 14th 2007 11:25AM
There just isn't the excitement of a new game that just came out anymore, people are still playing it all the time. The swords mode in Lone Wolves is extremely fun, and Rocket Race is great when you get tired of the just straight killing.
lharmon @ Nov 14th 2007 11:26AM
Well, I still love HALO 3. I play it almost everyday. I can't really get into COD4 multiplayer. It's fun, but I still love halo. I personally liked rainbow six mulitplayer better than COD...
Social doubles was fun! no reason to get rid of that! Oh well.
TORO @ Nov 14th 2007 11:29AM
There's still mania, yesterday at 2am I had 8 friends online and I swear everyone was playing H3. Don't make the mistake and go to the darkside yellow! lol
NukeAssault @ Nov 14th 2007 11:31AM
Sadly Halo is dieing down a bit even I havent played in over a month. Ive been getting my kill fill via Call Of Duty 4 (well i will be when they fix the damn game).
TORO @ Nov 14th 2007 11:31AM
See???? The Halo fanboy nation is speaking, even Dustin will agree. I play Halo about 4 times a week, sorry if owned you and now u hate the game. When new maps comes out it's gonna be awesome.
Boff @ Nov 14th 2007 11:35AM
I actually put Halo3 on for the first time in a long while last night. As frustrating as it is for me on multiplayer, it was a whole lot less frustrating than gettign kicked back to the COD4 lobby screen all night long. I paid money for that game aswell. Gutted.
The matchmaking in COD4 is fucked basically. Keeps throwing me out of games and even crashes WHEN PARTYING UP. If we do manage to party up and have 3 or more in a party only 1 or 2 will actually get into the game.
This happens for all of us and it's not much better when joining as a party of 1.
It was SUCH A PLEASURE to put Halo on and know that our party would be able to easily find a game on the first go without any problems.
Can't believe no-one else has had problems with COD4 online. Especially in the UK.
David W. @ Nov 14th 2007 12:29PM
Boff...dude everyone was having problems...It wasn't COD4's fault, when Live did their update it messed things up, I think its now, I wasn't having problems anymore around 10 last night.
Jedijoe9 @ Nov 14th 2007 1:15PM
Last year, I thought that the GOW multiplayer had died down by the time Christmas came around. Don't forget, though, that there will probably be alot of new xboxes around after the holidays, and all of those people will most likely start with Halo 3.
I predict it will pick back up then.
J @ Nov 14th 2007 1:32PM
All of you people saying that you haven't played Halo3 in a month are liars and I am calling you out.
dan stabbingworth @ Nov 14th 2007 1:41PM
Halo 3 isn't dying down. I still see huge amounts of players and never wait more than 10 seconds to get into any playlist. There are more options now, as compared to when Halo 2 was out, but if anything, other games will die down and people will return to Halo 3.
And 23 has it right.
ogvor @ Nov 14th 2007 2:05PM
After renting CoD4 last week(and enjoying it somewhat, may pick it up when it's cheaper or I have Christmas money), haveing a Halo 3 update that adds my favorite gametype as a social Hopper was perfect timeing. This and GH3 will now easily tide me over until Mass Effect and Assassins Creed can wait until Christmas brake.
If anyone wants someone to play Rocket Race with add me to your Friends list:

@21: I appreciate that mate but when I put Halo on it worked flawlessly. I knew there were issues with Live but only COD seemed to be affected.
It played ok last night anyway (though I wasn't partied up).
