Interplay's Fallout profit to revive Earthworm Jim, MDK
Having made a hefty chunk of change by selling the Fallout name to Bethesda, Interplay is looking to resurrect some of its long dead franchises. First and foremost among many gamers are the Earthworm Jim and MDK franchises. Frankly, we like the idea of seeing more of both, but without the development talents of Shiny (we promise, they made great games before The Matrix came out) and BioWare in the case of MDK2, we have our doubts. Other franchises being considered for a reboot are Baldur's Gate (please, please, please) and Descent. The information comes from an SEC filing stating that Interplay is looking to reinvigorate in-house development (they used to make good games too). While no specifics have been released, we can only hope that any games to emerge from Interplay's redoubled efforts will wind up on Xbox 360 (360 owners actually buy games, after all). Here's hoping the games are actually good.

Does this mean the Earthworm Jim remake for the PSP may yet live again? That would almost definitely be a purchase for me (unless it ends up being completely broken or something). If they decided to put the two SNES/Genesis games on the XBLA I might try to snag some achievements, maybe.
Never did get around to playing any MDK games.

I'm just happy Interplay is pulling themselves out of the gutter, they are a great developer and gave me at least a dozen great games to play over the years.

MDK was one of those games I really wanted to try out but never got round to.
I remember there was a bit of a fuss about it back in the day. Was it the Amiga days? Seems too long ago! Can't remember exactly, I'm getting old see!
Eathworm Jim was a solid game but I was never that fussed on it personally.
But any of the games mentioned in the article are worth a play through.

Wow, I didn't even realize they had such a tight list of games. Fallout was great, Baulders Gate was pretty good, Earthworm Jim was a really good and funny spin on side scrollers, Decent (and doom) were the first games I ever played over my sweet 28.8 modem back in the day and it owned hardcore.
Fingers crossed some of those games get brought back to life.

When I was a senior in high school, I had a drafting class. It was in a lab with several networked PCs. Each Friday the teacher would give each of us a disk with shareware games on them, and one of them was multiplayer Descent. Those were great times. We would play all period..so much fun.
That teacher took another job, and in the meantime while they couldn't find a replacement, the sub let us do it every day. It was awesome and is what got me into Descent. I can't believe that with all the FPSs we have that there's not one at all like Descent...

Does Interplay own the rights to Freespace, or is that Volition?

Sweet, Earthworm Jim on the arcade.
