Halo 3 free with new 360s until December 21 [update]

[Update: The Xbox.com offer page has mysteriously disappeared, although Bungie.net has now listed some more detailed information. Apparently, the Xbox 360 must be purchased between November 21 and December 21. Hopefully the page will be back up soon.]
Hey. You there. Bought your Xbox 360 and Halo 3 yet? No? Then do we have a deal for you. Microsoft is now offering a free copy of Halo 3 to gamers who purchase an Xbox 360 by December 21. Pay attention though because this isn't a bundle and you'll have to take a few extra steps to snag your copy of Halo 3. According to the offer page, you must:
- Buy an Xbox 360 by December 21.
- Connect to Xbox LIVE.
- Register at this link with the code XBX7777, the serial number of your new Xbox 360, and a valid mailing address.
It occurred to us after publishing this that we should probably mention that this promotion is for the United States only.
[Thanks, polar]

Crap, sorry about the double post that had nothing to do with this Thread. My password manager was acting up.
Anyway, I just purchased a Xbox 360 system in early Oct. Does anyone know how MS confirms you purchased your system after Nov 21st? Also, do they require a Gold Account or will Silver be fine?

ok...now the page doesn't exist
uh...whatever I already entered.
ka-ching!
DSK UK @ Nov 16th 2007 5:27PM
well according to 360FB, the rules state "by an xbox 360 by december 21" - It however doesn't mention the minimum for this date. For instance, i bought my 360 on day of launch, and do I have technically bought it before december 21 :) Would this count? I can't find the terms and conditions to see if it doesn't
Frank @ Nov 16th 2007 5:29PM
According to Bungie.net
1. Purchase an Xbox 360 console between November 21st and December 21st 2007.
2. Establish a new Xbox LIVE account
3. Register on the official site
4. Get a free copy of Halo 3 in the mail

I can't believe they pulled it, heh.
TORO @ Nov 16th 2007 6:05PM
That's funny, I bet you a lot of people were trying to get Halo 3 again.
romaine @ Nov 16th 2007 6:27PM
would you still get forza 2 and ultimate alliance free? if you do it's a great deal, if not then...not so much
Skeezy Peezy @ Nov 16th 2007 6:29PM
I don't think the deal is real...hence why it is pulled. Look for new information to come out soon that clarifies the offer.
slipknot0129 @ Nov 16th 2007 6:32PM
so if my brother buys one can he registers after christmas cause its for his kids?
c4v3man @ Nov 16th 2007 6:45PM
I bet it was pulled, so that it can reappear on the 21st. Confusing to have the page up prior to then, as I'm sure some people were told "hey, buy a 360, I just say an offer saying you get Halo3 free", who are going to be disappointed now.
erivera3 @ Nov 16th 2007 7:31PM
Halo 3 is too good
Toothpick Guy @ Nov 16th 2007 8:35PM
Looks like the Bungie.net page has also been pulled. I clicked it a few times and I got an error every time.
Gavin @ Nov 16th 2007 9:11PM
I got through to it earlier and got a confirmation page after entering all my info. I just bought a 360 a few days ago and have just signed up for a new Live account. I haven't gotten an email confirmation though, but I don't know if they would send one out. Seems to me they would.
Hhhhhmmmmmmm......
Skeptic @ Nov 16th 2007 10:20PM
Why would Microsoft have this deal? Is there something wrong with the 360's they have and their trying to get rid of it? o.O
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Nov 16th 2007 10:28PM
SITE HAS BEEN UPDATED!!
Deal is crap now.
You must purchase a new Xbox 360 system between November 21, 2007 and December 21, 2007, convert your current paid Xbox LIVE (for Original Xbox console) account to an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, then register on the promotion website between November 21 and December 21, 2007.
Toothpick Guy @ Nov 16th 2007 10:34PM
That sucks. I was actually looking forward to some free Haloz.
skyshark @ Nov 17th 2007 7:11AM
I sold my original xbox on ebay a few months ago. since it sais you have to convert your current paid Xbox LIVE (for Original Xbox console) account to an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, Does that mean theres no way for me to open an account without the xbox console?
simcha @ Nov 17th 2007 3:25PM
I know i'm going to get flamed by the posters here since I own a PS3 and i'm not much of a Halo fan. I admit it, the game is fine, just not my cup of tea.
I want to ask the 360 owners, do you guys feel worried by this? The 360 was the sole player in the market last year. It had all the new titles and a a good start. yet when looking at the library of 360 games, the majority seem to be old ports of last gen games or games that time had forgotten. One such example would be Perfect Dark Zero or Rumble Roses XX. Yeah I know the 360 has halo3, PGR4, Forza2, Mass Effect and the list goes on so there are still plenty of very compelling titles but even still. AC is multi, DMC4 is multi (much to the chargrin of us ps3 owners), but still. UT3 is on hold at the moment and PS3 is starting to build up a library and trying to compete with a $400 price point.
Now you see the 360 still having problems of selling titles, only pick up 3-4 million new owners this year which is down from last and the PS3 is on the same growth rate as the 360 from last year even with compitition.
The Wii has completely taken over the market as far as sales goes and decimates both consoles.
I'm just curious what 360 owners have to say about this, espeically with this 'Special' Halo 3 deal which seems to have all sorts of fine print in it.
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Nov 17th 2007 11:36AM
@simcha,
Have you missed the news about how much Halo 3 has made? Its one of the biggest (if not biggest) earning game of all time. MS and Bungie made their profit plus more, giving the game away will only help sell more systems.
simcha @ Nov 17th 2007 3:26PM
I'm not dismissing that monkeymonkeymonkey. If anything, Halo3 has sold more in its first week then some blockbuster movies. There is no question that Halo3 is a cash cow. That's not what i'm talking about however.
So to speak, Halo3 has come and gone and the sales of the console have gone down this year. Yes the 360 is still whooping the ps3, no questions asked, but it seems the 360 is slowing down pretty dam quickly.
The games that come out are mostly multi platform now and that's not good. Sure you have Mass Effect (too human is still unannounced for a release date), and there are others, but the PS3 and Wii have those as well.
I don't see the 360 lasting that far into the future. That's just my opinion however. Keep in mind, that's not the same as saying Microsoft wont last that far into the future. They're here to stay. The 360, the console itself is what i'm talking about.
... @ Nov 18th 2007 6:07PM
So... this deal is completely useless to anyone that didnt have a XBOX before?
simcha @ Nov 17th 2007 3:26PM
disregard number 28, sorry about that.
Carbonize @ Nov 19th 2007 10:45AM
Shame Halo 3 sucks.
