Microsoft wields the Xbox Live banhammer again

Just in time for the holidays, Microsoft decided to dust of the good old Xbox Live banhammer and has swung swiftly and promptly. According to the forum goers over at Xbox-Scene, members are reporting being banned initially thought to be due to modded 360 firmware versions. But that wasn't the exact case and now we know Microsoft dropped the banhammer on those who are using "bad discs" (burnt game copies in modded drives). So, be careful console modding kittens, because when the hammer drops ... it hurts.

There also banning ppl without modded consoles.
I've had 3 friends of mine get banned and I know for a fact they do not use modded cosoles or anything like that. And they do not gamesave all legit. So MS is banning ppl again by mistake it happened last time they dropped the banhammer.

Interesting, a friend of mine was actually messaging me last night talking about his console being banned. He had no idea why.

Was there any real reason for that? You disgrace the rest of the X3F community, which by and large is made up of pretty great people.

If people are getting wrongly banned, that sucks... but I am glad they're trying to get pirates (yarrrr) and cheaters off of Xbox Live. Those folks really bother me.

Besides, people getting banned for using Modded discs deserve it. I pay good money for my games not for someone else to go and download and mod their 360 so they can play excactly the same for free illegaly.

I'm all for MS banning people with burnt games from Live. I know they can't mod within games but the future potential for it exists... I also hate it when people don't have to investigate into what games they want to buy... Like my buddy just downloads a game, if he gets bored of it, he just doesn't play the game. While I have to budget my money to see which games I should and shouldn't purchase. It completely defeats the purpose of gaming if you don't have to worry about which games to get and which ones not to get.

DjDATZ - that makes no sense at all.. why do you think demos exist??
on topic - the banhammer has - as noted - also hit alot of innocent ppl aswell..
i understand why ppl who doesnt mod and pay (good) money for all their games is all-in for the bans.. but when it hurts innocent ppl - then i see NO valid reason whatsoever, why bans should occur at all.
on a second note.. i dont even understand why they would ban anyone since xblive is a HUUUUGE profitable asset for MS (a service that actually should've been free in the first place!) - even the modding community pay for it, and they also recieve revenue from the online games with in-game adds, and title update ingame ads..

i just dont see what justifies bans other than a moral issue.. its not like u can alter games to cheat

Good for MS. Modders and cheaters ruin the gaming experience and hurt the industry in the long run and the more they're ostracized from the legitimate gaming community the better.

yes people can switch out mapfiles in games to cheat. yes this sucks. ban these a-holes.

sucks that others get banned too, but if you actually had the disk in hand and backed it up properly yourself, then there is no worry. its these people that dl online that need to worry.
dont trust the stealth files in the "scene releases". patch them YOURSELF with YOUR OWN DISK and this wont happen to you.
