Additional Fall Update details uncovered

Among the new Fall Update features is new dashboard navigation (applause!). The 360's "Game" blade is seeing a mini-reworking removing the "Xbox Live Arcade" option and replacing it with "Game Library". Under the new "Game Library" option you'll be able to navigate all your XBLA games, demos and recently played games in "twist" navigation. If you aren't familiar, the twist navigation scheme can be seen on the current Video Marketplace (or in the screenshot above) and is basically horizontal scrolling that breaks down content by genre, categories, etc. And you better get used to the twisting scheme, because it'll be the navigation method of choice, especially in the XBLM.
Speaking of the Marketplace, it too will see a makeover with the top level's options being narrowed down to "Recommended Content", "What's New", "Game Store", and "Video Store". Under those categories, navigation of the XBLM will be laid out in the new twist format accordingly. See, twisting is all the rage!
Finally, two other features will go live when the Fall Update gets released including a new "Personal Profile" section. This new section will be viewable on a person's gamercard and will allow approximately 500-1000 text characters to write a mini-biography, favorite links or anything a person chooses. It's very MySpace-esque and is aimed at going hand-in-hand with the new Friends of Friends feature. And the very last (and possibly most exciting) feature that'll be coming next week is the ability to delete XBLA demos off of your games played list. W00t! We're not sure if it'll be a network wide deletion or if you'll have to select each demo to remove, but it's coming and we know a LOT of gamers wanted to erase those nasty XBLA demos from their games played history.
That's about it for new Fall Update features and if you're the adventurous type, make the jump to either Impress or Famitsu to read about their Fall Update experiences. That is, if you have the ability to read Japanese.

Just for next time, if it's okay...if you have a picture of pretty much naked girls on your homepage, please say so...
DJcious @ Nov 27th 2007 2:37PM
niiice, hopefully clan support gets added also
Benjamin09 @ Nov 27th 2007 2:36PM
Well if this is it...Nothing i am going to get excited about.
It will be nice be able to remove my demos off of my games played list..but only nice is about all there is to this update so far.
Cash @ Nov 27th 2007 5:00PM
Since when is a reorginization a "feature?"
I got all excited when I saw the headline... thought it might finally tell me if the update would include DivX support. But yeah, sure... that's what all us Live members are clamoring for: a reorganization.
sumsumma @ Nov 27th 2007 2:37PM
but will they update backwards compatibility? I am still waiting to play Capcom v. snk 2
dvdguy @ Nov 27th 2007 2:40PM

ian @ Nov 27th 2007 2:37PM
clan support.... no?
Adam @ Nov 27th 2007 2:38PM
Lame, where is the divx or xvid support :(
franoculator @ Nov 27th 2007 3:05PM
Who needs divx support? Install fuppes on your linux box and it'll transcode your vids on the fly.
Oh wait... I'm probably the only one here that runs linux...
brad77 @ Nov 27th 2007 3:08PM
I don't think that this list is comprehensive. I'm holding my breath for it myself.
James @ Nov 27th 2007 3:49PM
Only one who runs Linux? No. Only one who runs Linux on a box powerful enough to transcode on-the-fly at useful bitrates? Quite probably.
Seriously, we're all gamers here, which means that (if we have one) our best PC is going to run Windows most of the time. TVersity handles my Windows-to-360 media streaming, but I'd still prefer to store the media in a format my 360 can read natively, so my CPU can do more important things like run the AI in the game I'm playing.

If you want to use windows. This one is for Vista (but you need Home Premium or Ultimate because it uses Media center)
xp over here (I think):
http://runtime360.com/projects/transcode-360/transcode-360-download/
You need the media center edition.
xenocidic @ Nov 27th 2007 2:38PM
most exciting feature that'll be coming next week is the ability to delete XBLA demos off of your games played list
HECK YES! Now I don't have to buy "Novadrome", "New Rally-X" and "TMNT 1989" to get points in them! (of course I've already bought Joust, Feeding Frenzy, and DOOM), but 3/6 ain't bad!
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 2:38PM
wow...nice fuckin update!
X3F is going in my links as #1! Ill put RHR (my own website) into #2...
Oh and I'm going to have fun with the bio feature. No more being restricted to a 30 character "motto"!
Wow...I can't wait for this update now. Luckily its only a week away!
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 27th 2007 2:52PM
Why no love for Joystiq? They had the story about a half hour before. The relationship between Fanboy and Joystiq is like a marriage. You need both of them.
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 2:55PM
I don't need joystiq. I check it a couple times a week...but not like x3f where i'm always here...
Darkwun @ Nov 27th 2007 2:39PM
So we're getting a twisty dashboard for a fall update, MS need to step their game up
David W. @ Nov 27th 2007 2:42PM
The ability to update all those 0's in my achievement list will be nice...and I guess the profile thing is kinda cool...
I think the clan thing would be kinda cool...but on the other hand...I think it might make it more intimidating to newcomers...
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 2:43PM
oh and i wanna remove those damn XBLA demos off my gamercard. this is going to wreak havoc at places like 360voice...
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 2:44PM
but yea...we need divx and clan support still...those are still the biggest features...
jabbertrack @ Nov 27th 2007 2:47PM
crazy moon language people...
jc @ Nov 27th 2007 2:51PM
Uhhh thats cool I guess.......
I hate to bitch about this but no wonder MS was so quite about this update, lame. I remeber listening to episode 10 when douchebag major nelson was saying that they where already working on the "fall" update before they even released the spring update. WTF where they doing? Maybe they get paid by the hour. And what happened to rolling the XBLM to the rest of the world? I am an american working overseas and have no access to the marketplace. I really loved it and spent lots of money renting movies and buying tv shows. So I can see MS losing big time by limiting the amount of people who can use it. Sorry for the rant I love the XBL but think MS has gotten to big for its own good to be effective and lost touch with its customers.
Etchasketchist @ Nov 27th 2007 2:51PM
I wanted predictive text messaging. I would write so many more text messages on that thing if it would just give me a little assist. Typing with a D-pad is so NES. Game Library sounds smart. I always forget where to find my Demos and they just sit their taking up space. Personal Profile is key too. Judging people based on games and achievements alone is an inexact science to say the least.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 27th 2007 2:54PM
I doubt they ever release predictive texting, considering they want you to buy the chat pad.
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 2:52PM
as for the bio...i knew there was a space in people's gamercards for a reason...or at least when you look at your own...
Grant @ Nov 27th 2007 6:35PM
yeah, i saw that coming as well.
How long before people put the most ignorant and hateful things in that space?
Paul @ Nov 27th 2007 7:52PM
i agree with grant. people will abuse this. i don't mind knowing more about someone than what games and achievements they have but i mean most of the people on my friends list are people i know in real life so i already know them. this is becoming too much like myspace/facebook/etc.....
Andrew Christensen @ Nov 27th 2007 6:52PM
No Divx?!
Angel @ Nov 27th 2007 3:02PM
all i was looking for was the ability to change stupid gamer tags to more friendly names that i can remember!. i hate trying to remember 50+ names in my friendlists by gamertags.. i end up removing wrong fools all the time.
Neeko @ Nov 27th 2007 3:03PM
So does that mean no avi or xvid support? Damn this update sounds really boring. Give us something new MS.
BTW I like the new look of the comment section..Real SNAZZY,
IncredibleBulk92 @ Nov 27th 2007 3:13PM
speaking of updates when the hell did 360 fanboy get one? looks nice! Shame the 360 update looks lame
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 3:32PM
a couple hours ago...
Tony @ Nov 27th 2007 3:23PM
I don't know, I think some of this is a good thing. The blades desperately needed a navigational update.
I somehow doubt this is every thing to begin with. All it really seemed concerned with was changes to lists and navigation.
Eddie @ Nov 27th 2007 3:30PM
Can the fall update also put these features behind the "Snore" blade?
Placeholder "fall update" features FTL.
KineticOnline @ Nov 27th 2007 3:32PM
No divx/xvid = me unhappy :(
Seriously though we have be crying out for divx/xvid since the launch, as part of the dash updates, or as a download. (yes i'm willing to pay for it)
I really really dont understand why the tards at MS just dont give in already and give the people what we want.
Neeko @ Nov 27th 2007 3:55PM
they wont give use xvid support cause then BILLY will ahve to admit that WMV is and was always a complete waste of resources. It sucks for encoding. And id pay extra and maybe buy another 360 if it had xvid/avi support for a true MEDIA CENTER.
jc @ Nov 27th 2007 3:58PM
Fuck off on the fuckinG xvid DIVX YOU ARE NOT GETTING IT!!!! SUCK IT THE FUCK UP!!!! MS IS IN IT TO MAKE MONEY NOT LOSE IT TO BITTORRENT WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU LITTLE JERK OFFS TO UNDERSTAND?!?!?!!??!
Neeko @ Nov 27th 2007 4:12PM
WOW. Could you be more of a DOUCHEBAG? Your the exact reason why this new comment system is gonna work.
Chris @ Nov 27th 2007 4:03PM
No clan support? I really hope there is more to the update than just this.
Glenn @ Nov 27th 2007 4:08PM
wouwww... this is like one of the best updates ever, increadible!!!
Common MS!! YOU CAN DO BETTER!
If this is it, then its like, kinda sad...
I was looking forward too it, but now I know, Its no wonder MS knew to keep it a secret, its not interesting at all! :O
vmize @ Nov 27th 2007 4:13PM
Nice discovery and translation X3Fer's. I'll with hold judgement of this Fall Update until i get my hands on it. Good thing we won't be waiting long. Anyone up for some Yaris? (listen to the X3F podcast)
Double A Daddy
Kris @ Nov 27th 2007 4:17PM
Being able to delete those demos off of the games played list. Wish there were more useful things on it as well.
Chappy @ Nov 27th 2007 4:19PM
Interesting, the games blade really does need work, but I'm still hoping that we'll be able to add notes to our friends list (e.g. "Met in Halo 3", "Shadow's Roomate", "Farcry forum at a360p", etc.). 100 people is a lot to keep track of.
Gemini Ace @ Nov 27th 2007 4:53PM
I still don't see my friends list increasing.
Scott Williams @ Nov 27th 2007 5:25PM
I really don't understand Microsoft people are crying out for Divx support and yet they still will not give it to them. Sony is adding support to there PS3 so if people want Divx support bad enough there just going to buy a PS3. Personally I recode all my .avi to .mp4's so I don't really care about the lack of avi support but I can see that this would be annoying for a lot of people.
Cerixus @ Nov 27th 2007 5:25PM
If this is it, I'm filing the fall update under "Biggest dissapointment since Y2K".
LaughingMan @ Nov 27th 2007 5:40PM
I simply do not understand why people go ape **** about their gamercard showing they tried a xbla demo. I mean WTF. People shoot MS a billion good ideas for updating the 360 and they choose this? Because some hyperactive fat kid in the basement can't stand the stigma associated with trying "Astropop", MS has to fix this post haste? Jesus H on rubber crutches, this is just embarrasing.
xenocidic @ Nov 27th 2007 6:00PM
Those 0/200 entries really clutter up one's gamercard
MDJ2010 @ Nov 27th 2007 7:05PM
Thank God, I can finally get rid of the crap demos Ive played, BRILLIANT!!
