Back compat update brings sports, dungeon crawlers

Seemingly out of nowhere, a backwards compatibility update has been unleashed for the Xbox 360. While there are over 80 new games on the list, the ones that catch our eyes are the numerous sports titles and a few of the Xbox's better dungeon crawlers. These include Dungeon & Dragons Heroes, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Hunter: The Reckoning, and The Bard's Tale. Honestly, we could recommend any of those titles for hours of excellent hack and slash action. You can even find quite a few laughs in The Bard's Tale, which stars Cary Elwes and is narrated by the late, great Tony Jay. Another title that has finally made the list is Breakdown, Namco's bold first person experiment. Check out the full list of new titles after the break.

sumsumma @ Nov 27th 2007 3:06PM

Matt @ Nov 27th 2007 3:06PM
STILL no SSX Tricky?
jkdoug @ Nov 27th 2007 3:09PM
I still haven't been able to play my Destroy All Humans 2 that I got for Christmas... the same one I got my Xbox 360 for and then gave up the old Xbox. I feel guilty about my friend giving me a game I asked for and then me not even being able to play it. Silly me assumed that the backwards compatibility was at least 98%, though!
Hey, I'm just glad to see that they're still working on this!
mnemo @ Nov 27th 2007 3:09PM
This is surely in preparation for all these titles being available for download on the Fall Update firmware.
mike @ Nov 27th 2007 3:16PM
first off, its a software update not a firmware update second, these will nopt be available to purchase. Theres only around 5 games first available already announced.
Mitch @ Nov 27th 2007 3:12PM
No "Stranger", no sale!
Chase @ Nov 27th 2007 3:14PM
Wow, I never would've thought that The Hunter: Reckoning would be made backwards compatible before X-Men Legends I & II. Oh well, at least I get to add another great X-Box game to my 360 playable list.
Matthew Falk @ Nov 27th 2007 3:15PM
wtf?? no chronicles of riddick but i can play nhl 2k3?
Blisteringherb @ Nov 27th 2007 6:23PM
Yeah, still no Chronicles of Riddick. WTF is the point if they're not gonna update that one? And yeah, yeah, I know they're coming out with an updated version, but I'll still buy the new one even if they offer updated compatibility with the old one.
colin @ Nov 28th 2007 3:17AM
pssst.
if it's popular and has online play, it's not a priority. they don't want to put any money into something that draws away from new games' sales and is tapped out as far as profits go.
colin @ Nov 28th 2007 3:20AM
good to see FNR3 on there though. that may be the first game released on both 360 and xbox thats compatible.
Urza @ Nov 27th 2007 3:15PM
How ca you guys mention D&D Heroes (terrible), then mention Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (not bad), but ignore Forgotten Realms Demonstone (better then both!) Tsk tsk tsk. And here I thought Richard new is old games.
Tony @ Nov 27th 2007 3:20PM
Come on, add Rallisport Challenge 2 already.
Cabal @ Nov 27th 2007 3:22PM
Breakdown has been on the BC since at least the last update...
At least three more of my games will work now since I just sold my old Xbox to a friend.
VOS @ Nov 27th 2007 3:26PM
Fuck still no NFS: Hot Pursuit 2!!!
Jedijoe9 @ Nov 27th 2007 3:41PM
So I bought Freedom Fighters not too long ago and was disappointed that it was not on the BC list...
Lo and behold, though, my wish has been granted! W00t! Time to shoot me some commies
Gamer @ Nov 27th 2007 3:43PM
What?! No capcom vs Snk 2, Marvel vs capcom 2, jedi academy, Omg they are crazy!!! these games alone will get them over half or over more than half a million most likely on the first day of realease.
mnemo @ Nov 27th 2007 3:44PM
mike, I didn't want to imply all these titles will be immediately available for download, but if it wasn't for the new firmware with download option, I bet that Microsoft wouldn't bother with backcompat anymore. The firmware will only enable the menus and download stuff. But this way, MS has the backcompat in hand and can select titles for download from a larger catalog.
xenocidic @ Nov 27th 2007 3:45PM
what's with the giant photo? lol
DjDATZ @ Nov 27th 2007 3:46PM
Still no midnight club 3 yet? bullshit!
4sakenaiden @ Nov 27th 2007 3:51PM

Wilson @ Nov 27th 2007 4:10PM
Wohoo at last I'll be able to finish D&D Heroes which I hadn't done before... because... well.... I'm lazy.
popnerd @ Nov 27th 2007 4:14PM

SiGuy @ Nov 27th 2007 4:33PM
ESPN NFL 2K5 oh yeeeeeaaahh!!!!
zourskittles @ Nov 27th 2007 4:40PM
Ive been waiting for Gladius to become BC for a long time. This was a letdown. :( :( :(
UMSLWii60 @ Nov 27th 2007 4:47PM
When I popped in MVP Baseball 2005, it said "There's an update available for this game, blah blah blah" So I updated it, and then it told me that it wasn't backward compatible. I even tried rebooting the 360 and still the same thing happened. If anyone has MVP 2005, please let me know what happened for you when you put it in.
lrntswm @ Nov 27th 2007 4:48PM
STILL no Prince of Persia: Warrior Within/Two Thrones. Freakin' lame.
RudyHuxtable @ Nov 27th 2007 5:06PM

Eric @ Nov 27th 2007 5:14PM
Bard's tale.... that game stole my heart
ZZZZ @ Nov 27th 2007 5:58PM

ZZZZ @ Nov 27th 2007 5:59PM
OOk NVM :P Reread -_-
Knight Marquise @ Nov 27th 2007 6:49PM
What, no Advent Rising????
Damn, that was one of my favorite games and I've missed not being able to play it on the 360. After playing through Mass Effect, I really want to go through Advent Rising again.
haukke @ Nov 27th 2007 7:02PM

Paul S. @ Nov 27th 2007 8:09PM
Ugh, still no Metal Gear Solid 2?
David @ Nov 28th 2007 9:19AM
I'm officially in love with Microsoft. Glad to see they're still updating the backward compatibility list. Now I can go dust off Blood Omen 2 and Apex!!!
Anaris82 @ Nov 28th 2007 1:10AM
Ok.. The Guy Game and 27 sports games get on the list, but no Second Sight or Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath? For fuck's sake MS, stop scraping the bottom of the barrel.
JaysonAych @ Nov 28th 2007 4:14AM
Hallelujah! NFL2K5!
And Shattered Union! I bought that a few months ago cheap to play on my original XBox, but I have a crappy disc drive and it doesn't like it.
Great news!
SmokestormX @ Nov 28th 2007 8:04AM
Now thats what I like to see, a reccomendation for Bard's Tale.. thats the first game I am gonna pick up.

Keyth.Halloween @ Nov 29th 2007 2:53PM
Still no Deus Ex: Invisible War...
:(
ZeroCorpse @ Nov 29th 2007 2:57PM
Just a quick post to fix the fact that I had two profiles with blogsmith. I'm now back to one.
...And I'm still upset that there's no Deus Ex: Invisible War on my 360.
