360voice's new Old Spice Experience Challenge

If you recall, earlier this year Old Spice and Xbox.com sponsored a challenge where they gave out prizes to participants who achieved a certain Gamerscore goal. But now, with the ushering in of this second Old Spice Experience Challenge, they've decided to kick Xbox.com to the curb and team up with 360voice. The new challenge will start on December 5th, will be hosted by the 360voice crew and will allow gamers to create challenges, climb the ranks and win thousands of prizes including gift cards, Microsoft points, hardware and more. Details are a bit vague at the moment, but you can read all about it here, here or here. And remember kids, Old Spice loves you!

vague is an understatement... how do you actually win something ? (other than a user created challenge)
can you fix the first link? it shows as " javascript:void(0);/*1196442949103*/ "
xenocidic @ Nov 30th 2007 1:59PM
eh never mind, i found this on their front page

blah @ Nov 30th 2007 2:02PM
vague and gay
FROSTYSMOOTH @ Nov 30th 2007 2:18PM
its not that vague just do some research...I amongst others have helped get this party started since the beta test program(project red rabbit), and the info is around the site. It is based around gamerscore...If it is a 3 day challenge then whom ever gets the most gamerpoints in that amount of time wins, same as a 7 day, and 60 day challenge and so on...360voice.com is great at keeping the community updated so be patient and keep lookin. There are still test challenges going on today(of which im in)so if anyone wants to see some examples of how it looks check the challenges link at the top of 360voice's homepage...and explore.
xenocidic @ Nov 30th 2007 2:19PM
so if you win a user-created challenge you automatically win a prize?
what stops people from rigging the contests?
ChangeAgent @ Nov 30th 2007 3:39PM
Contest rigging is prevented in a few ways.
1. You have to have a gold account when you start or join a challenge... that prevents people from using lots of free accounts.
2. Since you create, invite or join challenges, you control who you compete against. If their game data looks fishy, don't compete with them in that challenge... or if you are the creator, boot them out. You control the challenge.
3. There are open challenges with no constraints. Prizing challenges (once they launch on Wed) will have requirements... the bigger the prize the more people you have to have in the challenge and the longer the duration... you can't just compete for 3 days against 3 people to get an HD DVD player :)
You can always email mail@360voice.com with questions... check out our dev blog... or the forums. This challenge feature is a long term feature of our community. We plan to support and improve it continuously.
xenocidic @ Nov 30th 2007 3:46PM
Thanks ChangeAgent, but if Indeed it is USA only, I won't be able to compete. but the information I'm sure will be useful to the rest of these American sacks =)
UNSCleric @ Nov 30th 2007 2:24PM
What an absolutely retarded way to go about doing this.
Riley @ Nov 30th 2007 2:31PM
This is terrible. It wasn't exactly amazing last time around, but it was way better than this.
andyg8180 @ Nov 30th 2007 4:04PM
yeah your comment was real relavant... Did you even see the list of prizes? It's more involved than the last one... Last time, you got an arcade game or a gamer tile lmao... IF it was in stock (whatever that meant)... This time around you get Microsoft points, gamefly subscriptions, hd-dvd players, and a bunch of other stuff... Screw a frickin gamer tile, i want me some points...
ant the man @ Nov 30th 2007 2:43PM
whoever gets the most gamerpoints in x amount of days? ooo man look for avatar around there then...like cant it be nething besides gettin ur gamerscore higher?
andyg8180 @ Nov 30th 2007 4:00PM
true... but each game is a one shot deal... And i've already seen it used lol... When you get into a challenge, you all can agree not to play certain games... Plus you can kick a known booster out of your challenge if you really want to...
ChangeAgent @ Nov 30th 2007 3:37PM
Sorry if everyone feels it is "vague and gay"... it is an integrated feature of our community... And think about it... you get to create your own challenge with your own friends and compete against each other to win prizes... it isn't some random race for 2000 points for a T-shirt... It is what you make it.
Explore a little more, I think you will find it can be pretty fun.
Fatty Chubs and I (ChangeAgent) are really just trying to make something that will be fun for the community (Gamerscore challenges). The prizes are just icing on the cake...
Through the beta almost 500 people have participated in challenges racking up almost 500k in gamerscore in just a few weeks. It adds another dimension to your game play...
This is a long term thing... it will be a part of 360voice whether old spice is sponsoring it or not. So I urge you to give it another look. Cheers all.
Paul @ Nov 30th 2007 3:04PM
thank you ChangeAgent for this opportunity to do this. i registered on 360voice.com and plan on participating in this challenge. some of the people on here are just pricks and can't ever say anything nice. i appreciate what you are doing, as it is just another reason why the 360 is the best gaming console out in every aspect. if people don't want to do this they don't have to. all i can say is keep doing things like this and people will participate.....
xenocidic @ Nov 30th 2007 3:48PM
don't get me wrong AgentChange, I originally thought it was vague, but definitely not gay.
i just wish the prizes were available to us sacks north o' the border.
since Canadians are known to have more body hair, I don't see why old spice would want to leave us out.=]
ChangeAgent @ Nov 30th 2007 4:01PM
Yeah we knew from the start that rewards wouldn't be available to non-US folks. That is just how these things work.
For any contest, prizes have to be fulfilled locally. It wouldn't make sense to get a gift certificate to a store that isn't in your country right? So just adding ONE country greatly complicates the prizing. And with the smaller markets it doesn't make sense for companies to fund fulfillment agencies and separate prizes in every country where there are xbox gamers... so for simplicity they do the largest market which is the US.
So it isn't that no one wants to include international audiences... they simply can't afford to put the infrastructure in place to support all that. Believe me... if they could they would. No one likes excluding people... but it just comes down to what is realistic.
I hope that clears up a little bit for people why international markets are often excluded from this stuff. But that doesn't mean international gamers can't compete for bragging rights! Once you win a challenge you will always have the challenge graph of your conquest to link back to!
Kryptinite @ Nov 30th 2007 2:53PM
I'm not even going to waste my time trying to figure out how to win stuff. If it's not official I'm not interested.
ant the man @ Nov 30th 2007 3:13PM
i checked out the beta thing goin on right now..looks a little confusing...the prizes are pretty good though compared to the first challenge..
ChangeAgent @ Nov 30th 2007 3:37PM
I see you registered for a full membership. You should get your activation email quickly. Check your spam filter. If you need me to activate you, let me know.
Also if you have suggestions for what is confusing and how we can clear it up, 360voice is build on user suggestions... nothing is fixed... so just send an email or post in the suggestions forum. Cheers!
G @ Nov 30th 2007 3:24PM
The challenges at 360voice.com have been a lot of fun. I consider the prizes to be secondary. I've been setting up challenges with my kids and my friends and we'll all had a blast. Fatty Chubs and ChangeAgent have been working extremely hard on this and I can't say enough good things about them and 360voice. Keep up the GREAT work guys!
DjChad @ Nov 30th 2007 3:29PM
I'm against anything that rewards people for being jobless and having nothing better to do than jack up their gamerscore. Good luck winning anything if you have a life outside of gaming.
EB @ Nov 30th 2007 5:17PM
That's why it's set up to compete against people you're friends with as opposed to complete strangers. Unless your pals are gamerscore whores, you can make a challenge for yourself and your friends that gives away a prize to the winner.
So, in essence, you're making your own contest. Fun.
ChangeAgent @ Nov 30th 2007 3:40PM
But you create your own challenge and invite the people you want... so if all of your friends have lives... and can't put up 2,000 points a day, that is who you should compete against. You control your challenge.
FROSTYSMOOTH @ Nov 30th 2007 3:30PM
I can almost bet that in a week or so all the people that said it is gay, retarded, and a waste of time will be registered in full and participating...If any of you did the old spice challenge through xbox.com you were wating time there, because there was no way to stop gamesavers from winning the top prizes. This is 100 times better set-up then through xbox.com, and is so much better organized too. Thanks again Fatty and Change!!!
Kicks @ Nov 30th 2007 3:45PM
While the old system wasn't that great, it really made the milestones more attainable to reach. When I knew that I had to only get so much gamerscore it a certain timeframe. I am enjoying the present challenge that I'm part of, but the number 1 person is smoking everyone by a couple thousand gamerscore
Kicks @ Nov 30th 2007 3:47PM
I really should have refreshed and read ChangeAgent's post before making this comment. Thank you for the great explanation. I was not even thinking that it can be a private contest among friends :)
andyg8180 @ Nov 30th 2007 4:00PM
WOOOOO!!! I cant wait to start winning some prizes... I did a couple challenges (and i lost cuz i suck lol), it took me one try to understand it... But once you get into it, its actually a lot of fun... Esp once people start the Smack talking...
Don't worry Change, some people are real tools on these public blogs... Everyone should defintily come check it out and give it a whirl... Not to mention its free schwag!!
UNSCleric @ Dec 1st 2007 2:48AM
Actually, you won't see me registering or participating. I don't have enough time anymore to participate in stuff like this and actually win, and since my GamerScore is 43,000, I can't really just go out and boost my score with easy games I have beaten over a year ago.
fatty chubs @ Dec 1st 2007 6:08AM
Well UNSCleric you can create challenges and invite friends with similar play habits, that's what it's all about. If you want to do anything goes challenge where you can play CSI and Avatar, then do that. If not get friends together that have either played those already or will chose not to. It's just one out of the many features on the site you can use to create a friendly challenge with your friends.
