Gerstmann talks, protests start and it continues ...
And so saga that encompasses the events, rumors and nastiness surrounding the firing of Gamespot editorial director Gerstmann continues.Over the weekend lots of Gerstmann-gate (that's everyone's new "it" name for this) news has been flooding in including rumors, forum lockdowns and zero official responses from CNET or Gamespot. And then today, Joystiq got in touch with Gerstmann who expressed some thoughts about the whole fiasco and where he's headed, but didn't disclose any concrete answers to this giant headache. Finally, Gerstmann supporters are calling for a Gamespot Blackout Monday and ask that nobody visit or support CNET owned websites ... it's all too much! Ahhh! We advise jumping on over to Joystiq to get all the details and linkage you need. Anyone have an aspirin we can bum?

So there's a boycott of gamespot that was organised on gamespot forums... ironic no?
Gemini Ace @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:11PM
I don't visit those sites anyway. This is where I get my news!
DjDATZ @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:14PM
+1 X3F is my #1 news source for anything Xbox 360.
Jon @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:53PM
Same here...
nelson222 @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:28PM
I bet AOL secretly developed Yaris, thats why Dustin likes it so much.
DjDATZ @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:30PM
I still have no full clue what happened...oh well...really doesn't matter to me... :P
Etchasketchist @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:53PM
The Gist:
-Editor thoroughly disses Kane & Lynch in print and video review.
-Eidos spends tons of money skinning Gamespot site with K&L ads.
-Editor gets fired abruptly without explanation.
DjDATZ @ Dec 3rd 2007 3:12PM
thank you etch. i thought that was it...i somehow felt there was more to the story though...lol
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:37PM
Joystiq says people should get behind the boycott, then cautions that it's just a boycott of a rumor.
My brain hurts.
poprocker @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:38PM
This boycott will probably increase the gamespot traffic. I hardly ever go to gamespot yet i've been there probably 6-7 times today alone just to see what's up.
Justin @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:42PM
X3F is all you need!!!
Corleone @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:47PM
Give me a break, who really cares about this guys job??
Etchasketchist @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:53PM
I think most people care about integrity in video game journalism. If you can be fired for panning a game, any game that can afford to advertise on a website will automatically get 9's.
Jon @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:55PM
Etchasketchist is right on the money. If the allegations are true, this is some serious shiznit.
Teabag @ Dec 3rd 2007 2:58PM
It's not about the guy's job or Gamespot for that matter. It's about the trust we show towards the reviews of big gaming websites such as Gamespot. With this shocking news, i am sure many who depend on game site reviews have lost their trust towards not only Gamespot but other sites as well.
People are questioning the integrity of game reviews now. Who knows which review is sold out?
Dale @ Dec 3rd 2007 3:05PM
While I definitely understand the concerns surrounding the firing, does GameSpot's review of a game have any significant impact on the sales of a game - for better or worse? Is there a way to tell that distinct from the impact of other sites and magazines, the opinions of GameSpot directly influences purchasing decisions?
Personally, if he was fired because Eidos objected to his review in light of their advertising spend on GameSpot, it doesn't make me question editorial integrity any more than I already do - reviews based on promotional or otherwise free copies of games are inherently flawed anyway. I am much more likely to trust the opinion of someone who spent their own money on a game.
AnOffday @ Dec 3rd 2007 3:20PM
Good thing I always thought Gamespot sucked. Should be easy for me.
Rodec @ Dec 3rd 2007 4:22PM
Yup, never really go there much... now I'll just stay here.
Boff @ Dec 4th 2007 6:29AM
Never really bothered with GameSpot anyway.
I just jump on the Hype Train and buy whatever games are in the station.
And whatever Microsoft tell me I should buy, of course.
;o)
J. sykes @ Dec 4th 2007 8:21AM
I personally like IGN above most other big sites.
But this rumor deeply troubles me...
It reminds me of that NYT fiasco from a couple of years ago that pretty much made me stop reading the papers.
Zowell, X3F is teh l33t anyway.
J. sykes @ Dec 4th 2007 8:26AM
PS-I applaud this Gerstmann chap for being honest.
Cuz the game did suck. and yes it was overhyped.
If that costed him his job, then I believe Edios/Gamespot or however you spelled it just cost themselves market share/web hites
