With the release of the Fall Update a few hours away
Major Nelson wanted to remind everyone about setting their
Friends of Friends preferences before the update goes live. The Friends of Friends feature defaults to allowing "everyone" to see your friends list, so if you want some privacy or only want your friends to see it then you have to be proactive. To change who can view your friends list, head on over to
Xbox.com and make your decision. And yes, you'll be able to change the Friends of Friends preferences via the Xbox 360 dashboard after the Fall Update releases, but we're all about being prepared and organized. So what will it be? Everyone? Friends? Blocked? The decision is yours.

everyone i mean who gives a shit if someone can see my friends list most people when they see my profile browse through it anyway
itsburnsie @ Dec 3rd 2007 4:53PM
Friends only... which is what it should have defaulted to, in my opinion.
Thanks for the reminder X3F, you guys rule!

Defaults to everyone?
Looks like Microsoft still doesn't know anything about security and privacy. Boneheaded.

I've changed it a bunch of times, but it never seems to stick. Everytime I go back, "Everyone" shows up...grrr.

I must be blind... I only see 6 options under Privacy Settings: Video and Text, Gamer Profile, Member Content, Video, Online Status, and Played Games. Where's the Friends of Friends option?!

I don't quite understand the point of the FoF in the first place.

i just went to xbox.com/fof and its just a bunch of text saying once the update occurs, you can make a change. Nothing allowing you to make a change fromt here however.

So far the only use I've found for FoF is if you have a large group of like-minded individuals, you can use a dummy silver account to keep a database of them - this way new member can troll the list looking for people with similar gaming interests.
For example - GamerDads/GamerParents have one
