Halo 3 forger Rit Dye likes his face. He likes his face so much he decided to do a
self portrait of his mug using the forge in
Halo 3. And if that sounds like a difficult task then you are correct, because forging the easiest thing to do. But Rit Dye figured he'd take his portrait forging up a difficulty level to legendary by creating his masterpiece not top down like others, but from the side. As you can see in the image above, Rit Dye placed random
Halo 3 objects horizontally on Sandtrap's surface creating an optical illusion. The illusion, when viewed from a distance, creates an image. An image of Rit Dye's face. A+ for effort, A+ for execution and A+ for total commitment. Next up, an optical illusion that'll make us better
Halo 3 players.

vanhelsingh @ Dec 10th 2007 5:58PM
just step back from your screen and then look at it from a distance.
Ten Dolla Bill @ Dec 10th 2007 4:17PM
impressive
NuAngel @ Dec 10th 2007 4:25PM
No you don't have to cross your eyes, it's not a 'magic-eye' picture... but it literally took me about 10 minutes to find. Just imagine you're looking AT a person, who is looking slightly to their right. you're going to see the outline of the jaw/cheek (, the lips, and eyes. The person's RIGHT eye is the warthog, the bottom of their chin is the bottom most item (bruteshot?).
This might help some people:

Thanx that helps a lot
But come on he must have stumbled on to this.
You don't go in to forge with the idea of making a self portrait???
J @ Dec 10th 2007 4:25PM
holy crap, that's amazing... and yet one for the medical books for the most obvious symptom of OCD.
No, really. That's pretty cool.

Even with the help, I cannot see it. Why doesnt someone draw in the eyes and stuff for mental cases like me? :)
Boff @ Dec 10th 2007 8:42PM
Good effort! He must have the patience of a saint to do that!
GoldenPie @ Dec 10th 2007 5:22PM
Wow, nice. The Chopper and the Warthog are the eyes btw, for the peoplle who can't see it. Just build from there on.
Big Filth @ Dec 10th 2007 5:54PM

icedpanthernab @ Dec 14th 2007 1:41PM
Its far better than my exploding barrels respawning on grav lifts.
brodsky2809 @ Dec 10th 2007 6:52PM
that looks strangely like a salvador dali painting in my living room
schatten529 @ Dec 10th 2007 7:16PM
Much more difficult and unique than creating images from a top view.
Very Dali-esque for sure.
Lianne @ Dec 10th 2007 7:26PM
I read all the comments, still don't see it... I could never see those Magic Eye things either...
JPN @ Dec 11th 2007 8:18AM
Am I the only person who thinks this is kinda stupid? It's not really a "self-portrait", it's more like a bunch of junk that makes up a face.
Bravo6 @ Dec 11th 2007 10:13AM
haha - damn!
zlionsfan @ Dec 11th 2007 1:22PM
The curve of the hill in the back is the top of his head. I think the non-"face" parts make up a headset?
Edog Lost @ Dec 11th 2007 5:47PM
I think it's cool looking, and looks like this guy spent a good amount of time putting this together.
