Rumor: C&C FPS "Tiberium" headed to 360
According to a recent post on VideoGamesBlogger, the next issue of Game Informer reveals a new FPS set in the Command & Conquer universe. Apparently titled Tiberium, the game takes place after the third Tiberium War and places gamers in control of a GDI field commander armed with a GD-10, a special weapon with four firing configurations. The game features squad tactics and is described as "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter meets Battlefield meets Rainbow Six Vegas." Frankly the this description isn't particularly evocative of anything, other than to remind us at least that said games were good. Other details include the ability to control specialized squads and vehicles and also the inclusion of special powers like calling in an orbital strike (an obvious nod to the RTS roots of the series). Little else is known about the game right now, though we expect more will come to light when the next Game Informer hits the shelves.[Via Joystiq]

Oh that's original! I liked it the first time when it was called Starcraft: Ghost.
Gamestop's in-house magazine is terrible, yet somehow they always get industry news like this... how?

Game Informer is a pretty good magazine. I have been a gaming magazine subscriber to dozens of different mags over the decades and their info is solid. Like all gaming "authorities" their reviews mean nothing, but other than that there isn't a bunch of subliminal (and laughable) marketing like you'll find at places like GameSpot and IGN.

Well, granted, my review of GI is a bit old, I haven't read it since I actually worked at gamestop. Maybe it's gotten a lot better since my last read. I understand that they're trying to eke out another C&C fps, but unless it's got some killer multi-player it's most likely going to tank. (mammoth tank?) Dunno, guess only time will tell. Good points though Josh.

Just to clarify: this is different from Renegade... how?
ogvor @ Dec 12th 2007 11:12PM
Unforunatley, this doesn't sound very much like Renegade, being that it's a "tactical, squad based FPS". Me (and I'm sure many others) who actually played Renegade's multiplayer absolutley loved it. The game had a really interesting, really original home base mechanic that literally worked how it does in an RTS. The barracks and war factory allowed you to buy a better infantry unit or tank, with the money supplied to you by the tiberium collector. You also had base defense that prevented most infantry incursions and a power plant that was very important to protect, as all other buildings were crippled if it was destroyed. This lead to many interesting and original tactics that I have yet to see in another game. Fients to draw attention to the front of the base, while a small team of demoltion engineers destroyed the power plant. Rushes of flame tanks to destroy the main defense. Blockades to disrupt the flow of resources.
I really hope they atleast keep the multiplayer like renegade, it was my favorite multiplayer game ever.

Well of course it is! I mean, it's a FPS. Where else would you expect it to go?
dirt junkie @ Dec 12th 2007 5:27PM
Renegade all over again!!!
Well done EA you keep floggin that horse!! and while your at it, why release new maps which should have been on the disc a couple of days after the release for a stupid amount of MS points......
My hate for EA grows greater everyday! Just not as great as their profits.... lol
Isaac @ Dec 12th 2007 5:34PM
I Loved Renegade also this has to be good ..........
domino @ Dec 12th 2007 5:32PM
yay another fps...
robby2009 @ Dec 12th 2007 8:08PM
What are you guys smoking? lol
That issue of GI has been out for a few days now! haha.
But yeah, that game looks pretty sweet. I can't wait for more details and trailers that are to come!
durtnap @ Dec 12th 2007 8:26PM
just to clarify. It's not a FPS. It's C&C with some FPS sections. It's still an RTS for the most part.
From the article: "Tibeberium infuses the franchise with FPS segments, but don't break out those fanboy pitchforks just yet - this triple-A production is built on a foundation of RTS elements."
JohnHeist @ Dec 12th 2007 9:11PM
"RTS Elements"
like, calling in airstrikes? And commanding other units?
This smells like a FPS branch off to me.
Gemini Ace @ Dec 12th 2007 9:31PM
Ok, so is the C&C franchise going yearly, too?
Frank @ Dec 12th 2007 9:32PM
I think it would be cool for it to be an RTS, but also have the ability to swap to an FPS on the fly. Imagine sending a sniper to a position, then you become the sniper. Or you take the role of an engineer, then manually sneak your guy into an enemy building.
James @ Dec 12th 2007 10:38PM
I'm just holding out hope for a Natural Selection-style multiplayer mode. Man, that would kick ass in the C&C universe...
Yuccadude @ Dec 12th 2007 10:46PM
So it's like Republic Commando where your one weapon is all four weapons? That's cool, it worked well there, hopefully it'll work here too. Never really played any RTSes, so maybe I'll get it and if I don't like I'll give it to a buddy of mine who likes them.
BananaBoat @ Dec 12th 2007 11:22PM
They get exclusives by paying for them, obviously. I'm sure the editor of GameInformer is FUMING right now because a story they payed thousands to get the exclusive rights to, just got posted for the world to see before the magazine even hit stands.
This is why magazines are now useless, and function as little more than toilet reading material. Can't even buy an exclusive anymore.
Yuccadude @ Dec 13th 2007 12:58AM
Wow, that is exactly what my friend does with his GI.
Joe @ Dec 12th 2007 11:26PM
Well this would be pretty cool. I hope its true.
Chris @ Dec 13th 2007 12:27AM
This is All True As I Received my issue of GI yesterday!
hellvector @ Dec 13th 2007 2:26AM
Hehe, you said NOD! :D
Tiberium, get it?
hellvector @ Dec 13th 2007 2:27AM
I was bored, sorry.
Sounds interesting though.
