Halo 3 Standoff eggs: Is that a face in my moon? [update]
Update: Having trouble seeing Carney's lovely mug? Check out the 7th Columnist, they have a good pic.
Bungie isn't new to hiding Easter eggs in their games and Halo 3's new Heroic Map Pack is no exception. So far, gamers have found two Easter egg gems hidden in multiplayer map Standoff, one being a throwback to an old school egg found in Halo 2's Containment. ProjectModGaming created a nifty video (embedded above) showing off both eggs including Bungie environment artist Chris Carney's face in the moon as well as Bungie 3D artist Travis Brady standing on Standoff's satellite dishes. Bungie, you guys are like deranged egg hiding Easter rabbits. Hippity hop guys, hippity hop.

Dah! I can never see the man on the moon...what is my deal??
razzleson @ Dec 13th 2007 3:31PM
Don't worry, you're not alone. I watched the video three times and still can't see the face.
Tim @ Dec 13th 2007 3:36PM
Yup, same here. I don't see anything in the moon.
dunnypop @ Dec 13th 2007 3:40PM
couldn't figure out the face in the moon either.
c4v3man @ Dec 13th 2007 3:41PM
the video is horrible, way too shakey, but here's where the face is... I paused it at 0:38 and it should be in the center of the screen. It's the lower right of the moon. The man is looking to his right, like he's looking at someone standing to your left. Seems to have a big smile as well..
Lucky I got it... had to stare at it for awhile.

I can *kinda* see the face in the moon... how do you get to those satellite dishes? I coudn't seem to get out of the main area, even as a monitor.

Heh, bullshit. Kinda wish I had the maps I could post videos of me showing off every naked detail of those maps. Glitches in halo games are laughably easy. I wonder if anyone has gotten the passenger warhog in multiplayer into the map to drive around or do I still hold that one as one?
Eh Call of Duty was really easy as well, especially since the beta. Apparently all my methods didn't get public and only around 3 percent were patched. Sometimes I wonder how these games can get passed certification or reviews when they can't even keept he simplest glitches from happening. I find it hard to believe one man can point out 10-20 easily fixable and abusable glitches within the first 5 minutes of playing a game when an entire team of beta testers don't realize it.

I found a similar guy in the last level of Halo 3..

You'll have to find me online man..and send me a video or something to show where your towel guy is! Magic Whiskey.

Sorry guys for the shakey video, I couldn't record it with my capture card, a friend had to. The face is next to the dot on the moon. Look closely, and this is not modding. We used pan cam to get out the map. Our name wasn't ment to be *ProjectMod Mod's games:p* Right now my xbox is dead, but if you send messages to the following people they'll be glad to help ya out;)

Haha so how long did it take you guys to figure out the different debug camera modes?
First thing I did when I booted up after launch was check all the developer debug codes they never seem to take out and about the 3-4 try I found one that works. The real trick of making the thing useful is either using another code that I won't be sharing with you guys or simply by setting up your game and network correctly so you can explore the outsides of the maps limitlessly, no snap to camera features or time limits for how far or long you can be out.
Anticrawl @ Dec 14th 2007 1:47PM
Interestingly enough is the fact that one of the codes from Halo 1 works with Halo 3, I'm guessing that was eithier a nod to people who found it and used it or the fact that they're to lazy to remember multiple things.
Anticrawl @ Dec 14th 2007 1:54PM
I use to share my videos with my fellow gamers until the fellas from playinghalo decided they'd just go ahead and take all the credit for my efforts in said glitches and not even so much as mention me in the credits. But yeah I'll save the good stuff for my group of buddies I game with and leave you guys guessing. Can't tell you how many times people have bugged me about how to do a very promenant melee glitch that snaps to any player within about a 30 foot radius and typically one hit kils them.
I liked the ones in Gears the best personally, the instant explosion chainsaw glitch we took with us to the glitching grave and it was ruined via patch. You could run or walk and even take cover and whenever you got near someone they litterally exploded and the little blood animatin would still be there. Best thing about it was how it didn't need to be reset so one could potentially run passed all 4 enemies and they'd die.... I miss gears, best damn glorified chatroom I've ever played.
Magic Whiskey @ Dec 13th 2007 4:27PM
If that indeed is a face on the moon by the white dot, it's super blurry and really up to conjecture that it even IS a face. I'd believe someone if they said 'Oh, well there really IS no face on the moon..'
The supposed face on Mars is more believable!
Stupendous52 @ Dec 13th 2007 6:41PM
Ok, now I feel a bit better! Good find nonetheless!

Worst.Video.Ever.
"Hey, instead of showing the cool easter egg I found, I'm just going to randomly look around for 95% of the video, then actually show what people are looking for...oh wait, I didn't even do that properly"
Jesus just stopped loving you.

Opening a secret room by using certain items in certain places on Foundry would be a lot more fun easter egg :)
