Xbox Live is experiencing some technical issues
Trying to log onto Xbox Live but keep getting random error messages? Well, you aren't alone, because Xbox Live is currently experiencing some technical difficulties that aren't allowing subscribers to log in. And that's a big bummer. The flakiness started Saturday evening and according to the Xbox Live status monitor over at Xbox.com the problems are widespread, but are being dealt with. So, expect Xbox Live to be down for a bit and know that even when it gets fixed that slowness and oddness will follow. For up to the minute information about this mini-crisis be sure to point your browser over to Major Nelson or the Xbox Live support page. We have faith in you Microsoft, we know you won't let Santa bring new Xbox 360s to boys and girls this holiday and not have Live up and running at full steam.[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

For those affected I have found a small work around for the issue.
I was experiencing Live problems only when I would load up a game. To fix this I went through the following steps.
1. Log into Xbox Live via the Dashboard
2. Find a friend that is currently playing a game on Live, and is Joinable at the moment.
3.Join that friend this, in most cases, will bypass the the games main loading screens, and try to automatically connect you to that player.
4. Regardless if you join that friend or not you should be dumped into a lobby, and on Xbox Live.
Hope this helps someone, it worked for me on 2 occasions already tonight...

Gaah, I just got my 360 and wanted to play some more halo online.
Bah, guess COD4 on my ps3 will have to hold me over.
Offtopic: I'm looking for some people to play halo 3 online with. I'm
tired of either playing with 1) 8 year olds, 2) people who don't use
mics, or 3) people acting like 8 year olds yelling obscenities. Just
looking for anyone who'll actually use some teamwork and most
importantly, have some fun. my gamertag is ianncannon.

Try 2old2play.com for older, mature players.
pwnetheus @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:53AM
Thanks for the link, will definitely check it out..
Never thought I'd be calling myself old at 21. ='(
pwnetheus @ Dec 23rd 2007 3:01AM
BTW Jonah, I noticed that wants its members to be at least 25. =/
So I'm too "young" for you guys but too "old" for all the rabid crackbabies on live. I feel.... so alone...

Welcome to the club; I'm probably the only 18 year old who isn't a fratboy on Live.

Call of Duty is in horrible condition right now, been playing for about 3 hours and have had constant "sliding teammate" experiences if ya know what I mean....
Billie Jean @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:51AM
Does anyone think this is related to the Sensible Soccer bug from earlier this week? Maybe something is really broken with LIVE??
Xanto @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:53AM
Ah, so this would explain why I kept getting kicked off while I was playing Call of Duty 4
DeadPlasmaCell @ Dec 23rd 2007 1:59AM
Mines working alright now.. I played COD4 earlier and it disconnected when I got to the main menu.. I reconnected manually and then played a game, but it was pretty laggy.. I just got done playing a sec ago and it's been working fine.
BigDaddyM @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:20AM
Working now, but you already knew that...
BananaBoat @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:50AM
I'll bet the ship was getting a new layer of armor to protect it from the Christmas day tidal wave of new subscribers.
Yarrrrrrr
Arnie @ Dec 23rd 2007 4:25AM
Well I couldnt connect for whatever reason. I hope they just fix it soon enough. I was hoping to play CoD4 actually tonight with a friend(am total noob when it comes to online gaming), guess thats gone now.
What happens to the All Nighter?

I pay for this service, I should be reimbursed for down time. I should also be able to opt out of ads on my dashboard. Seriously, is this too much to ask?
GregA @ Dec 23rd 2007 7:53AM
I will take care of this one on Microsofts behalf. I am cutting a check for 16 cents, however, it will cost me 39 cents to mail it too you. So send me a self addressed stamped envelope, and I will get it off to you right away...

Xbox... Live...Down...Dieing.
Jayslacks @ Dec 23rd 2007 9:53AM
It sucks for you guys. I just played Mass Effect until my eyes bled. Good stuff, every time.
bigmac375 @ Dec 23rd 2007 10:00AM
This kicked me off a good gears session. I had the same room going for five hours and wanted to continue to the late night. It didn't work that way though. My faithful roomgoers started disconnecting and it was not long before I bit the bug at the height of saturday night primetime; needless to say I was very upset. Without online gaming, all I could do was listen to the cagcast and go to bed.

I ranted about this elsewhere, but here's my problem with XBox Live, and being shut out for a while:
I can't play Oblivion.
You see, my game saves are dependent on expansions that were purchased from XBox Live Marketplace. Every time I play Oblivion, the XBox has to query Live to authorize the content. No Live means no expansions. No expansions means no Oblivion, because I'm not playing my saved game without my expansions-- It would be a mess without them.
So even though it's a completely offline game, I have to have a connection to XBox Live in order to play my saved games in Oblivion.
This sucks.
I wish Microsoft would keep their meathooks out of my purchased content. I can agree that the purchased content should only work for the gamertag that purchased it, and that should be something that can be done at the console's level. REQUIRING me to have an online connection in order to play my legally purchased content EVERY TIME is utter bullshit, and it's a hindrance. If my network is down, or if I'm visiting my parents, or if Live is having problems, I'm S.O.L. when it comes to this game, and that's really BAD game design.
Microsoft needs to fix this. It's the only thing I absolutely HATE about my XBox 360, and I otherwise love the 360. I love it so much I'm getting one for my nephews for Christmas, and I've "upgraded" my own console a couple times when they put out new SKUs, just to improve my own gaming experience.
Not being able to use my purchased content is stupid. Tie it to my gamertag, but don't require an Internet connection every time I want to play my games. What happens when the 360 is dead? What happens when Live is dead? What happens when I want to play where I don't have Internet access?
This is stupid, and I hate it.

SaNcTuS @ Dec 23rd 2007 12:45PM
omg...this crap was happening to my clan all day yesterday. to quite a few other people in my friends list as well.
it also scared the crap outta me, we were about to start a clan match and two of my guys dropped along with one of theirs. lucky the host wasnt much of an a-hole to launch the game...
Brian @ Dec 23rd 2007 7:10PM
Still cannot recover my gamertag. Thank God I didn't pay £40 for this service...s**t I did. At least my PS3 will keep me amused until this gets sorted but really is this service really a service.
Sean @ Dec 24th 2007 7:20AM
I have the almost the exact issue as well ZeroCorpse. I sent my 360 in for the 3 death lights, and they sent me back a new 360. Now I can only play 2 out of like 8 or 9 arcade games without having to connect to live. It's annoying as hell. I agree that something should really be done about this.
Erikph2 @ Dec 26th 2007 6:55PM
Issues with Live being down are back again tonight! Twice in the first four days I have had off in over a month. Thanks M$
Paul @ Dec 28th 2007 6:08PM
the message on Support page appears to minimze this issue. I find the status "Up and Running" while I have been unable to recover my gamertag for four days insulting and further frustrating. Remember when video games were fun and you did not have to worry about routine repairs for ROD, 6 week repair downtimes, and a down (paid, mind you) network issues.
After all, who would think the largest giftgiving holiday of the year would increase network volume. Does anyone at M$ do anything other than cash a check?
Carly @ Dec 29th 2007 8:15PM
I totally agree, Paul. I am unable to recover a gamertag also. I was at a friend's house and tried to pull my GT there, it got stuck in the ether. So I came home and tried to recover it. It's still in the ozone. Sometimes I get an error saying live is down and sometimes it tells me my GT doesn't exist. It's been 2 days now. I have a very nice paperweight now since all my games are saved onto my GT profile. *sigh*
Carly @ Dec 29th 2007 8:16PM
Oh and that Halo 3 FragFest that was due to happen tonight must really being something with so many people unable to log on at all.
