In video game award news that doesn't involve
BioShock taking home every trophy, the NY Times revealed that BioWare's RPG-o-fun
Mass Effect earned its Game of the Year vote. Let us repeat that.
Mass Effect received GOTY honors from the NY Times and not
BioShock. Sounds good, doesn't it? We only tease
BioShock, because it has been winning big lately and we wouldn't want to force Mr. Levine to learn carpentry for the sole reason of needing to build a bigger trophy case. Congrats
Mass Effect and everyone else (
Halo 3 and yes,
BioShock) who received shiny awards from the NY Times.

Mass Effect or Bioshock are definitely my two picks
Bobill @ Dec 24th 2007 9:57AM
What a day to finally celebrate this victory, now I have a true reason for beating Mass Effect early not to mention. That now I can finally score it with Ashley without that rat keeping an eye on us... Happy Holiday
Yeah I don't think he will get in the way of us again +8 Renegade.

again, NY times is not a credible gaming outlet... Just like Time magazine... NY Times is news for dummies with their big letters and dumbed down picture graphs lol...
LuckyEMS @ Dec 24th 2007 10:41AM
your just pissed because BioShock didnt win
AnOffday @ Dec 24th 2007 11:24AM
I agree. What in the world does the NY Times know about video games?
Mass Effect is a good game, but the NY Times has absolutely no place naming a game of the year. They can't even print a real story that isn't completely full of lies.
Easo @ Dec 24th 2007 10:51AM
Maybe the NY times didnt enjoy the "Go and get me tha-ooowwww too late dead. But go through my stuff you find the item you need to get to that locked area". I know I did.
Will @ Dec 24th 2007 10:54AM
Yeah, Mass Effect definitely deserved GOTY.
TexRob @ Dec 24th 2007 10:54AM
It's tough to pick a GOTY, and best of all time, etc, from a personal perspective.
If you are talking about how much time I will spend playing it, how long it will keep me interested, then Mass Effect is right up there with Oblivion as best games of all time.
If you are picking based on, what was totally different than anyone else was doing, and was great at what it intended to be, then I go towards Bioshock. Bioshock was a great story, and it flowed well, which is good and bad. I prefer my games open ended, so in the end, I would have to pick Mass Effect as GOTY, as much as I loved Bioshock.
Last but not least, Halo 3 is fantastic for what it is. The story is good, not told as well as Bioshock or Mass Effect, but the story is good. The multiplayer is the best on Xbox 360 IMHO, and for that, I give it a strong nod.
JakubK666 @ Dec 24th 2007 10:59AM
Yeah I was wandering why did EVERYBODY recently started bashing Halo 3 for what it is. Halo 3 is a pretty simple shooter with an incredible multiplayer and it fully deserves a GOTY too!
erivera3 @ Dec 24th 2007 12:23PM
I agree, Halo 3 definitely deserves it but because of stupid haters it is treated unfairly. Halo 3 is the most complete game out there.

SCREW MASS EFFECT BORING LONG TALKER!!!! GO BIOSHOCK!!!!!!
Jon @ Dec 24th 2007 12:08PM
I've bitched about it before. But, undoubtedly a good game - just too short ... and ONE city in space? Come on... I was disappointed - however, it did get me excited about going back and playing Oblivion. Its refreshing after all the Haloz and COD4age. IMO Bioshock is the winner here. Damn liberal media.
Tony @ Dec 24th 2007 11:23AM
I found ME disappointing, but it's still a decent game. I can't complain about people liking it more lol.
Evan @ Dec 24th 2007 12:36PM
I am glad to see Mass Effect get game of the year awards from somebody.
I am also personally not the least bit interested in BioShock... I thought the demo sucked.
Leobebes @ Dec 24th 2007 12:47PM
I think the Bioshcok demo is the greatest demo of all time. There hasn't been a demo in video game history that establishes a detailed introduction to a wonderful storyline like the Bioshock demo did. You are one hard man to please. You must have a time machine and seen first hand what the future of gaming holds to feel the Bioshock demo sucked...yeesh.
Etchasketchist @ Dec 24th 2007 2:05PM
I played the Bioshock demo for exactly 2 minutes before I decided to quit because it was obviously a masterpiece and I didn't want to spoil anything.
Mike-453 @ Dec 24th 2007 3:20PM
The Bioshock demo was awesome, since the intro to the game is awesome, unfortunatly it doesn't stay as awesome, more scripted enemy events such as at the beginning of the game would have been great.
ryan @ Dec 24th 2007 1:36PM
i actually liked the bioshock demo. bought the game, halfway through it got somewhat boring. the plasmids i got lost there wow factor, there were 2 puzzles that really seemed to use them but after that it was just a straight shooter. and that final boss?
yet to play ME. COD4 is much better multiplayer than Halo3 sorry. In the run button alone it beats it. The exp. system and the ability to call in air strikes only add to this.
Etchasketchist @ Dec 24th 2007 2:02PM
I think the only credible way to give out a game of the year award is to just give up and call it a tie. Pick your two favorites and just apologize for being a critical wuss. And then give tons of props to all your honorable mentions. Any other approach and you're just looking to start a fight. My GOTY: Halo 3 and Mass Effect with mad props to Orange Box, Virtua Fighter 5 and PuzzleQuest.
Mike-453 @ Dec 24th 2007 3:17PM
Bioshock is boring, combat gets dull and watching a cinematic conversation to learn things is far more entertaining then standing still listening to an audio diary.
Oh look, I have an opinion too! I better be careful with having one of those. lulz
I can't be one to say GOTY due to my restrictions to tehe Xbox platforms. But Xbox GOTY for me is either Halo 3 or Mass Effect, since these have entertained me the most. Why would I care if something is different or unique if I still prefer a good ole generic sci-fi?
ccc @ Dec 25th 2007 4:07AM
Just finished beating this game on insanity and it was great, after the first time I beat it I was a little let down but after getting all the achievements I have a much greater respect for this game. Small problems it has but, I can deal with them easly. Heres to hoping an expansion comes soon and that the wait for two is less than 2 years.
Tobberoth @ Dec 27th 2007 10:37AM
In my opinion, Mass Effect deserves GOTY WAY more than Bioshock. Bioshock was extremely overrated, mainly because of the miniscule amount of hype it got compared to Halo 3 and Mass Effect. I thought Mass Effect would be one of the best games ever, and while I can't say it is, I was still happy with it. I thought Bioshock would be boring, and i don't feel I was off by much.
Why Bioshock gets the attention it does, I have no idea. It hasn't deserved it.
