Microsoft points are now giftable

Just launched the other day is a brand new online Windows Live feature that allows you to send and receive Microsoft points for use on Xbox or Zune accounts. But, there are a few stipulations. Currently, the gifting of Microsoft points digitally can only be done between US Windows Live accounts and you must know the Windows Live ID (not gamertag) of the person you are giving points to. Though, if you fulfill those requirements, giving the gift of Microsoft points is as easy as signing into your account, clickity clicking and BAM! Instant gift. We're not sure how much we'll use this (we enjoy giving tangible Microsoft point cards and we simply do not remember Windows Live IDs), but it's still a jolly good online feature no matter. Oh, and we'll give out our Windows Live ID if you ask ... you know, just for information sake.

Hi Evan,
Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!
We have received your email and as I understand, you would like to know if you can purchase MS Points online and then send this to a friend to serve as a gift...
(insert blah blah blah about how to buy points for yourself)...
About your suggestion of sending MS Points to a friend, we take comments and suggestions very seriously and review them daily. If you have more suggestions for new features that you'd like to be added to Xbox or its features, please reply back to me with your comments...
Sincerely,

It is a great fetaure. I've already sent 1000 ponits today. Now if we could only send Arcade games/movie rentals.
Pyrii @ Dec 24th 2007 1:13PM
US Only, figures.
And you can't "transfer" points, only buy them is my guess.

Purchasing a game or movie would be cool too. Although, there is probably some reason they haven't come up with this one yet. On the right track though!

Sniff... I just got suspended so I can't send out any points to friends...
They suspended me for my account name after having it for 3 years. and Now I cant even play Uno on my other account cause they have it locked to the first account it was bought on...
Im really starting to hate microsoft... even though I just got over 300 dollars in games. (AC6, AC, ME, and COD4.)
All I really want to do is play Uno... The game I have played since I was a kid.
If anyone is in a giving enough spirit to send me like... 400 points :-)
The email is StoneNbone420@gmail.com

what was it?

This biased-to-america behavior is seriously starting to piss me off.
It's a matter of sharing bloody points, it's not hard. There's no reason it can't be released in Europe and everywhere else at the same bloody time. Just piss off MS don't sell your bloody country anywhere else if you're going to bloody ignore the rest of the world.
Hey, on the up side i guess christmas 2008 i can look forward to this feature, i mean, it took them that long to give us a video marketplace - right?
energyvortex @ Dec 25th 2007 1:12AM
It's amazing. Everyone bitches about not having the ability to do this, then they start to roll it out, and everyon shits on them for it? Bunch of ingrates. Or P$3 lovers. Either one.
- Nice assumption that MS *hates* everyone but the US because they choose to start the roll out in the country that they're headquarted in? BETA?! HELLO?? Mind if they *test* it before spending more to roll it out internationally?
- You're suspended and you're bitching? Dude please. The people that pull the trigger on the Ban Hammer don't do it for the 'hell of it'. You deserved it, I'm sure.
- Toro, your P$3 is lonely and needs you to restart it so you can keep 'Folding@Home'. Someone posts a made up email and you assume it's some edited real life email that someone sent in for feedback? Oh, hey, I have this bridge for sale, interested?
It's friggen Christmas Eve people... wtf is with this negativity? Damn.... I hope you all get coal >

Kiss-ass boy, shut up.
Just because you have the ability to use this feature doesn't mean everything is all dandy. Those non-US members have every reason to bitch. You'd realize that if you lived out of the US. The range of the US-Europe realease dates are horrible.
Also what are you badmouthing TORO for, he's making a simple joke. But really I'm just defending him because how can you act like hes a PS3 fanboy when hes made about 800 comments on X3F and 12 on PSF.
So do as I said, shut up.
energyvortex @ Dec 25th 2007 1:18AM
"Just because you have the ability to use this feature doesn't mean everything is all dandy."
- Wtf does this mean in regard to the topic? Oh you're whining because of a limited release for *testing*, I see..
- You don't expect me to apologize for where I live, do you? No? Good. Then you have some sense after all. Now quit whining when companies don't see it fit to release everything they do, immediately, internationally, and you'll really impress me.
- His joke is tired and old. I ragged on it. Deal with it.
Just like when European companies don't slate the US first for their toys, you shouldn't expect US companies to slate the European market for thier toys. But, like the jack asses here in the US that whine about being shafted, so too will we see idiots from Abroad whining. *shrug*

I just wish I could buy these points using PayPal. I hate having to use my credit card and rack up interest due to the other crap I buy on it.
BuD @ Dec 25th 2007 11:10PM
I am having trouble figuring out how to send points to another windows live ID.... I have some leftover points from another account that I want to add to my current one..... anybody give me the step by step sesame street instruction on this one... PLEASE!!..... Thank you
xenocidic @ Dec 28th 2007 11:23AM
as mentioned above you can only buy net-new points to send, not transfer off old points.
