It wouldn't be the New Year without some juicy rumor talk and today it's all about the
Metal Gear Solid 4. According to
XboxFamily, they claim to have spoken with a Konami distribution rep who confirmed that
MGS4 has been in development on the 360 since early 2007 and that it will release 12-14 months after the PS3 version. XboxFamily is pretty confident in the credibility of their Konami insider, but you can color us unimpressed. To us it's just more
MGS4 coming to the Xbox 360 talk, another rumor we can add to the ever increasing
list we already have and all we want is Konami to speak up. We give it another six weeks until the next
MGS4 rumor surfaces.

This would be nice to see. Don't know how much I believe it as of now though.
ryan @ Jan 1st 2008 5:37PM
who cares you know your gonna want a PS3 eventually.
only exclusive games i'm looking forward to next year are Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, God of War 3, Metal Gear 4, FF 13.
But I do prefer the black PS3 controller in MGS4 (to control Otacon robot) instead of a white 360 controller. that would just look weird.
BowserUSC @ Jan 2nd 2008 9:00AM
Why does the color of the controller make such a big difference to you, and if thats the case, why not just buy a black 360 controller.
ryan @ Jan 2nd 2008 12:02PM
dude, i mean in the game itself, Snake uses a PS3 controller.
It'd look Stupid if they used a white controller, and it would look illogical if they used a black 360 controller, going back on their true colors so to speak.
refinedsugar @ Jan 1st 2008 3:16PM
Why don't we just say we'll get it a year after the PS3? Talking in months instead of years always comes off as some bad sales pitch.
Anticrawl @ Jan 1st 2008 3:16PM
Actually, after the last set of videos I've lost all interest in this game. Anyone who actually watched the gameplay videos should know what I mean.
Bill @ Jan 1st 2008 3:30PM
I thought the trailer was pretty awful. The redhead has unmovable helmet hair, but she has dangly earrings? And the voice acting... ugh.
Rk @ Jan 1st 2008 3:17PM
I would love to see this, so much.
Jitaroo @ Jan 1st 2008 3:40PM
more and more reason to not fork out for the ps3
AutomagV @ Jan 1st 2008 3:50PM
Seriously, this game might be a little too weirdo for me. Don't get me wrong, I like quirky different games (nothing but respect for Suda51), but "Big Momma?" Really? The ass gyrating crotch grabbing gameplay may just be a little too out there for me to take it seriously. And the voice acting, this isn't the 90's anymore. You'd think at this point a "cinematic experience" from the virtual actors would be possible with such a big studio. Then again, a lot can change before this finally comes out, maybe all the crappy dialogue, character names, etc., will all be fixed. Who knows?
Token White Guy @ Jan 1st 2008 4:00PM

MGS may have been revolutionary ten years ago, but the good stuff from the original has all been adopted into better games.
And the stories of MGS games make Michael Bay films look like they should win an Oscar for Best Screenplay or something.
Nick @ Jan 1st 2008 5:04PM
Why would anyone want to play this 14 months after release? That's like me getting excited that something like Bioshock would be coming out on PS3 in 2009. Who cares by then. Just play it on the system it comes out on.
Matt @ Jan 1st 2008 5:13PM
Because the original system it comes out on is the PS3, yuck.
Nick @ Jan 1st 2008 5:18PM
Because no one likes dependable hardware.
Rk @ Jan 1st 2008 5:41PM
No it's just that people don't like to buy dependable hardware when they have a system that they can depend on for software.
Nick @ Jan 1st 2008 5:55PM
That makes zero sense. You're trying to argue that people would rather buy $400 hardware that has a 61% failure rate, over another piece of hardware that has a 4% failure rate. Your right. People don't like dependable hardware, they love to throw $400 down the craper... Nice logic.
iFester @ Jan 1st 2008 6:14PM
I spent $800. Half for dependable software on disposable hardware and the other half on backup hardware with disposable software.
Cal @ Jan 1st 2008 6:44PM
I don't know about you, but I buy games consoles for *games*
Also where did those figures come from? From the people I know they are way off, I'd say the failure rate among people I know is more like one in four..
Nick @ Jan 1st 2008 11:01PM
Cal, that's like saying you would buy a $1,000 computer that is faulty for a good $50 piece of software. That's illogical.
Bear in mind that I own both systems and can look at this with objectivity from experiencing both platforms, while most of you cannot.
The stats are from a financial firm, not my own experience. Those are world wide figures on failure rate. Personally in 1.5 years of owning xbox's I have been through 5 systems from RROD. In 1 year I have had the same PS3. And both get roughly the same amount of playing time.
BowserUSC @ Jan 2nd 2008 9:16AM
A little evidence besides your word on the fact that your stats come from a financial firm would make your argument better. I don't accept your argument at all because first you didn't give any sources, and then when you try to clarify, you still don't give a source.
Hey, the fail rates of the ps3 are 420% and the 360 is 69% and thats from a reputable financial firm. See what I did there, I told you the numbers were real, so you should obviously take my word for it.
Well... I've had a 360 since launch, and I've never had to send it in for repairs. I don't keep it in very good condition, have dropped it many times and throw it in my checked baggage without any protection when I fly. I've had the rrod before and its always gone away after resetting the console. So my experiences with the hardware have been great, nick, and I'm sure other people have had similar experiences.
Will @ Jan 1st 2008 6:54PM
Do you know what else is nice logic? Dishing out $600 on hardware that has no software.
Nick @ Jan 1st 2008 11:01PM
The price point is no longer an issue. You can't compare the price point of the system a year ago, when today it runs $400.
And your comment on software is your opinion. The PS3 now has many exclusives and several timed exclusives that are great games, and there are just as many mainstream heavy hitter exclusives on both systems.
The only current downfall of the PS3 anymore is the online component. And being that HOME is a good argument for a fix, it not being released yet can only garner speculation admittedly. As far as anything else, it is now on par with the number of quality games that Xbox has, and certainly has the edge on hardware ability and reliability.
Being an owner of a 360 myself, I don't know why you would defend a company that charged you $400+ for a system that has drastic issues. I don't believe you would stand for that crappy of a product in any other market. And if that is the case, then you must therefore admit a bias.

Arno @ Jan 1st 2008 7:55PM

TwelveKnights @ Jan 1st 2008 11:04PM
Why do we even care about this game anymore? We have Mass Effect, Halo, Bioshock, Crackdown, and many others. Let the PS fans have their games that make a PS3....a PS3. If we keep getting PS3 games, Sony will just acquire other games, and we'll just be ridiculed for having a PS2.5, per se, since we only have games with a Playstation identity. It wouldn't be any fun if the PS3 got Bioshock or, since EA took it over, Mass Effect. Let games stay exclusive, and just because a game is on a console you don't like doesn't make it crappy. I know I want MGS4, and I'd be willing to buy a PS3 for, just like many of us bought a 360 for Gears.
You guys have to realize that a game of this magnitude will move PS3s, and if multiplatform, will move just as many 360s, so in the end, marketshare is negated. But because we keep getting PS games, PS will just get other games that will move its' consoles more, then we have nothing to rely on, because Sony will make sure they stay exclusive all the time.
M$ should try and get new games instead of Playstation games. Instead of getting DMC4, they should have tried to get an equal or better game. Instead of GTA, they should have got a game that revolutionized the sandbox genre. But since we only go after their games, instead of trying to get new ones (from the 3rd party, minus Bioshock), it only confirms Kutaragi's statement of "the 360 shoots for the moon, the PS3 shoots for the sun"
Let the PS3 be a PS3. Let the 360 be a 360. Stop trying to blend them together and make them seem like they are the same console, because that eliminates competition, which is bad for us gamers. Games that make a PS system are MGS, DMC, GTA, GT, FF, and so on......if you guys really want to play those games so much, get a Playstation. If you want to play Halo, get a 360....stop trying to blend the consoles together just because the PS brand has been on top, let us make our own identity in games that are better than anything Sony could ever pull
h0mi @ Jan 1st 2008 11:38PM
But the thing is, new IP tends to not attract as much interest in a given platform... existing IPs do. People who'd buy a ps3 for MGS4 might forgo the $400 purchase if it were coming for the 360; someone with neither but with a ps2 might opt for the 360 instead.
I'd tend to agree that I'd rather see newer, better games than simply rehashes of older IPs. But quality, new IPs are hard to come by.

TwelveKnights @ Jan 2nd 2008 10:34PM
@ hOmi
saying that they don't attract as much is only short term. MGS1, for all purposes, was a new IP for PS1, Halo was a new IP for Xbox, even going further back into the 90s, Shining Force was a new IP for Genesis. Sure, they may not attract many in the beginning, but if it's a good game, then it will have good legs, and become established. Look where all those games turned out (Shining Force has stayed under the radar, but is still a great game, and has a few separate titles)
Games don't become familiar IPs out of nowhere, you know. You have to start somewhere.
PS1 could have taken tried to take Virtua Fighter from Sega Saturn, but instead they established Tekken. Nintendo 64 could have taken WWF Warzone, but instead they made Wrestlemania 2000. Xbox1 could have taken the Shinobi from PS2, but they got Ninja Gaiden.
You see what I'm saying. You have to start somewhere in order to BECOME a success, you can't just ride off the success of what's been established and expect to last in the long run.
Nick @ Jan 2nd 2008 1:49AM
I have to agree with almost everything you said. But I'm not sure market share is negated by this game moving PS3's.
Yes, it will move some 360's, but at 14 months later, the chances that the game was purchased on PS3 is far greater, and that it moved machines for those that don't own both systems yet.
The reasoning is the same for something like Bioshock, which is why I mentioned it in my initial post. If Bioshock was released 14 months after its initial release for PS3, I highly doubt it becomes a "system mover". Will it sell some PS3's? Sure. But imo a "system mover" is something like GTA for PS2 or Halo 3 for 360. A game that was a must have that caused a massive amount of systems to sell for the sole purpose of playing that one game.
The likely hood that individuals will have already played MGS4 on their own playstation, a friends PS3, or purchased a PS3 for the game is high, so while there may be decent sells on the 360 for it 14 months later, I doubt it will be a system mover. More than likely people will have already played it, or if they hadn't it was because they owned a 360 and were waiting on it to land on their machine.

what the hell is with all the PS3 fanboys attacking X360F? they need to stick to their PS3 fanboy instead of coming over here to start trouble...

Xbots really want MGS4 and they say that the PS3 wanted Halo 3
TwelveKnights @ Jan 2nd 2008 9:04PM
@ Nick
I was only taking it from the perspective on Xbox fans wanting the game day and date with the PS3. We tend to triumph when we get PS3 games, like DMC and GTA, but in the end, it only makes the 360 look like a Playstation instead of an Xbox, and then PS3 will just get more games under its' wind that will make the system seem THAT much better. If the trend continues, by the next generation, people will simply call the next Xbox, "Playstation's little brother, always looking up to it, but never venturing out on its' own"
@ Jeff
I don't think PS3 fans would come here if Xbox fans would stop trying to get their games. Like I said before, if you want Playstation games, then stop having a blatant bias against it, and buy it to play those games. ost Xbox fans want PS games so bad, but the thought of giving up Bioshock to the PS3 pisses them off. INSTEAD, what should happen is, PS3 should be able to keep its' games, and the 360 keep its' games, and let the consumer determine which console is better.
Image blending is not good.....making the 360 look like nothing but a PS really doesn't justify the purchase, when you could have just bought a Playstation. The funny thing a find is that most of us 360 drool at the mouth at the notion of getting PS3 games, yet PS3 owners really don't care too much about our (3rd party) games. With that said, once more, if you want Playstation games, get a Playstation. I want 360 games. I want Halo, Forza, Bioshock, Crackdown, etc....if I wanted otherwise, I would have picked up the other system. You should think the same way too instead of trying to have one console (360) have a monopoly on all games
Elsnerma @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:44AM
The real news here is that when this rumor is proven false, XboxFamily won't be up in 12-14 months, and will be replaced with a video of Freeze smashing his Xbox. Check the comments.
Rk @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:43PM
Nick, I happily bought a Premium, then traded up for an Elite and I've never had ONE problem so according to MY logic, I am correct. Why, as a consumer, should I care about figures you're throwing at me when they obviously have no affect on me? Your logic is flawed. In the marketplace, there are more 360s - end of.
